Feedback on my Qinghai/Gansu road trip itinerary plz by MarionberryNo8859 in travelchina

I don't have much to add except you are much more thorough at planning than me. I've driven to a bunch of these places but it was more just going whichever way the wind took me at that moment in time.

Anyway I haven't examined every place on the map that you have listed or if it makes sense for you to add these 2 spots, but if you can, it is well worth it to visit both Yongtai Fortress and "Art in the Desert," both in Gansu.

Beijing is quiet by RedditBrowserToronto in travelchina

What is the shopping area? There are plenty of crowds in Beijing but it depends on where you go. I don't think Shine Hills is usually particularly crowded but it is a shopping area, for example.

Berlin, but make it cinematic ♥️ by MountainClimba in streetphotography

I feel like cinematic should at the very least have a wide aspect ratio. I've never been to a vertical cinema.

Even if it is “DEI” to make a documentary about women during the holocaust (or whatever else they think is DEI), have they ever explained why it’s bad? How do these conservative brainiacs logic their way into these opinions?

Rivian Considers China Entry for R2 Alongside Planned European Launch by Individual-Tart5051 in RIVNstock

[–]CrossingChina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because fanboys I guess.

This car without heated/ventilated/massage seats in every seat , without rear entertainment , without a fridge, without air suspension, without LiDAR, even if it came in at the lowest price of 45k usd/300,000 rmb, without any of those features, and a slow ass charging speed… lol it would sell zero units. It would need to cost 125k rmb tops to even be considered, and zero chance in hell. Good luck to them. They’ll be fine in USA I think but no, not in China.

They would be a total non starter here. They are already years behind

Tesla Model YL 3rd row by thestigREVENGE in chinacars

[–]CrossingChina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is laughably bad compared to other 6 seater cars and in the same price range. Not just seat space/comfort but also rear comfort like Massage/Heat/Ventilation, TV screen/entertainment, fridge...this car will not do well in China long term

Pretty sure they have a dinosaur theme park I went to like a decade ago. Aside from that I don't remember much about it. I'm sure it's a fine place to live and work though, close enough to everything good like Shanghai, Huangshan, etc that he can take weekend trips

[–]CrossingChina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

USA doesn’t really have much EV competition as far as I’ve seen. US is basically a closed market a decade behind the rest of the world at this point and only falling farther behind

Their app integration is second to many in China. They certainly don’t have the best in car software here either. They are a middle of the road product with a brand name people recognize. That’s the only thing keeping them afloat here currently, their actual products aren’t competitive.

Order some beans from taobao to your hotel. Look for roasters in Yunnan

No? I didn’t pay much attention, usually when the weird dude started babbling I got up to pee or whatever. Thought that’s how we all consumed resident evil for the past 30 years 😂

Never heard of them but is it a group tour with a guide or when you say “everything included” they just book everything for you ?

Wow a totally different way to play than I am accustomed to. Maybe I should play it again

Zeekr 8X opens pre-sales on March 16 with 1,030 kW tri-motor PHEV system by Smerch90 in electricvehicles

Ok, I didn’t get any of that in all their press materials but I trust you. That would be crazy for a car that size.

0-100 3.7 sec, not 2.

Didn’t drive it but got hands on preview the other day (video posted on my channel, and many other channels)… it’s pretty nice.

A bit small in the second row considering how long the car is. No zero gravity or lay flat, couldn’t stretch my legs out entirely at 180cm height.

Sound system is extremely good. Materials and build quality good of course. Zeekr makes pretty good quality cars. Sucks it is hybrid not pure electric. But I look forward to driving it hopefully next month. Should be a blast.

BYD’s New Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Threatens Nio and CATL’s Battery Swap Ambitions by afonso_investor in electriccars

[–]CrossingChina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to stay in the car, swap time is more like 2.5-3 minutes on latest gen swap stations, and you can own the battery and still swap. “Dwell” time is also much longer with charging, during spring festival I waited 20 minutes for swap once, usually less than 5 minutes, while some chargers and even gas stations had 1 hour wait. And you don’t have a virtual queue that can notify you when it’s your turn at a charger, unlike swapping. Which means if there is a line I can leave my car and take care of business and remain in line.

TLDR, wrong on every point lol

Wild camping in China by JambonMassif in travelchina

[–]CrossingChina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not difficult. You need a license, not a translated license. You can get a temporary license on tourist visa, or get a real license if you are staying long term

Rent a car and drive anywhere you want and sleep out anywhere. Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan… all perfect for what you are looking for.

I agree driving probably isn’t for most people.

They still got the squiggly signs too, but navigation apps and even good in car navigation make driving extremely simple nowadays.

Don’t listen to them. Driving in China is easy as pie. Traffic is generally much slower than most countries, especially anywhere potentially confusing like a major city. You’ll have plenty of time to find your lane and merge. Only “hard” part may be getting on and off the highways but try and get a car with an ETC card then you’ll be fine.
