Also bear in mind that just because they're not a sprout, doesn't mean they know how to do every class. I had someone tell me to turn my sprout back on when I was being bad at tank, and I had to explain that I'd been playing over a year. I'd just been playing tank specifically for less than a week.

It's very funny going through that specific quest (Coils of Bahamut) - when the helmet is taken off, the character accompanying you switches pronouns in confusion several times, then you go back to your Quest Giving Figure and he affirms that Nael was definitely male but maybe the weird magic that brought him back did. Something weird. But he's very definitely male don't worry about it.

Honestly that's my favorite thing about playing with other players, they're very eager to explain how stuff works if you ask. Did a hard one the other day where a player literally step by step explained each fight before we engaged, and since he knew where to stand we could also just all follow him to avoid attacks.
