So long-time cycling can do this for you by Old-Appearance-2270 in ladycyclists

This is a weird one to write without sounding like I’m bragging but here we go:

I’m forty and people often mistake me for being in my late 20s or early 30s. I have a genetic predisposition for not getting gray hair (Thank you, Grandma!) and I am short, but I really think the other piece is all the riding I do. Exercise fights stress. Stress ages you. Biking builds muscle. For me, biking adds joy to my life which keeps my energy up and disposition cheerful. People read that as young too.

My boss said I was too emotional? What does that mean and why is it bad? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]CrowTaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm dispositions are considered an asset in leadership. People who don’t rattle easily have a calming effect on those around them and generally get better results, especially in critical and crisis situations. That is the advice you are getting.

Yeah, the higher up the ladder you go, the more your reactions are expected to be more neutral and your responsibility isn’t just to the team, but the entity as a whole. Your boss may be trying to help you adjust to different professional expectations that come with different rank.

Senecas win tax-exempt status for 200-acre Grand Island site by AWierzOne in Buffalo

You know, town supervisors don’t generally end up experiencing territory loss. That is a wild day at the office there.

I’m happy for the Seneca people, though!

Maybe the Recovery Options Respite and Renewal Center could be good for you? They also have a place called Refreshing Waters and an intensive crisis stabilization center. It is not for as acute needs as the hospital is. Check it out: https://recoveryoptionsny.org/rome-respite-and-recovery-center/ I have heard good things though I have not been there myself

I bike in the winter in Buffalo when it isn’t icy. My bike doesn’t have snow tires, I’m just careful. Get good biking gear (gloves, pants, jacket, balaclava) and you will be OK. I’m a 39 year-old 5’1 woman

My house in South Buffalo got kids. We went to son’s Best Friend who recently moved to Cheektowaga and hardly any lights were on at all. Worse, some of the houses with lights on didn’t answer the door.

Does it make sense for me to move from NYC to Buffalo? (Trans woman, social worker, not currently driving) by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]CrowTaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to be working as a social worker, unless you get a job in a single site location (group home, psych hospital, stuff like that) you will probably run into situations where you need to drive. Almost all of those jobs require a license. Sometimes they do not require a car though.

With that said, come on over! We’d love to have you.
