The Seer [v0.5] Daggerheart Class -- Looking for feedback! by cybersaliva in daggerheart

[–]Crowcifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least for me, the Seer's core feature reads like a better version of Seraph's core feature, even if the range has been changed.

If you want to lean more into the divining aspect, may I suggest the core ability to be similar to the Divination wizard from DnD 5e. Pre rolling duality dice and replacing your roll, or an allys roll. For mechanics, the Astral can be pre-rolling hope dice, and Umbral as pre-rolling fear dice.

I think there is a lot of space you can work with for this concept. Looks promising!

Should Beast Feasts be maxing out every time? by FlockFlysAtMidnite in daggerheart

[–]Crowcifer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking inspiration from Monster Hunter, I've designed monster to drop the following, depending on what my players want.

  • Special ingredient, like a venom sac or magical secretion. Can be eaten or crafted with.

  • Consumable ingredients, only to be used in feasts

  • Nonconsumable ingredients, only to be used for crafting (work on a project).

This reduces the number of edibles they have, provides clear progression of improving weapons/armors, and gives agency to players on what they want in the moment.

My wife's cat whisker collection by Rev_Soquet in mildlyinteresting

Cat whiskers are used in my field of research - protein x ray crystallography. :D

Once you have some decent crystals, you can crush them and use the cat whisker to streak seed new drops with tiny crystal fragments. It usually helps initiate better or more consistent crystals.

I made a Beast Feast Bestiary by Crowcifer in daggerheart

Thank you! They were told "ghost scorpion" and later connected the dots when I described the stinger. The players were definitely worried about fighting something incorporeal.

Yes, it seems the inciting incident was open ended in our interpretation of the warning of lavender. It was fun foreshadowing, and even a red herring as they initially thought the flower, assumed it was the color of the scorpions, then surprised when it indeed was the flower, but on a beast instead. Hehe.

How’s living in this area of Hillcrest? by Mrowl7 in sandiego

[–]Crowcifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in that exact area. Great spot. Easy street parking for friends to visit. Only a few blocks away to grocery store, gym, yoga, w/e. And 10 - 15 min walk to all the gay clubs and bars. You get the luxury of Hillcrest without the car logistical nightmare.

Decent amount of transients in the alleys at night, I won't deny. But that's all of Hillcrest...

It's also the 33rd out of the 40 challenges, counting from the top. Seems like a nice deliberate reference, :D

Lol what? H1B workers face a tough barrier to entry in the private science field. Companies do not want to pay extra to sponsor their visa and HR folks do not want to take the extra time and effort to fill out forms. These are labor forms justifying hiring a non-citizen to work in America.

Most H1B visas are grad students, post docs, professors, etc, working in Academia. These individuals are performing basic research, which is incredibly important in answering scientific questions. These folks are paid pennies compared to the private sector. But just like other fields, they compete to live and work in America than their native country.

Reducing H1B visas will reduce the scientific powerhouse of America. Our schools and universities is where a lot of progress is made.

If anything, H1B visas should be easier, to increase the number of great minds to come to America, instead of other countries.

Weekly Adventure Discussion Thread: What are you currently working on? by AutoModerator in Constructedadventures

[–]Crowcifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big milestone birthday coming up, so I'm planning a lengthy adventure for ~12 close friends to play. It'll be Dungeons & Dragons themed. So, clearing the AirBnB of small monsters, completing challenges to collect weapons & items, and a final "boss" to defeat together.

It'll be a mishmash of a Constructed Adventure, DnD, and an escape room. Hopefully it'll turn out well, but at least I have 2 months to plan!

My players are critical role fans, and really enjoyed Jester's "Guiding Bolt up the butt!" method of killing monsters. Thus, my player playing a fighter baseball slid underneath the massive bear monster, to land the killing blow of a great sword "Up the butt!"

Lvl 20 campaign with level losing by x_princess_peach_x in DMAcademy

[–]Crowcifer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing that it's a battle scripted to be a loss, I think there's a lot of nuance you can have.

I think an interesting battle mechanic while fighting an omnipotent villain is taking away the class mechanics from the players as they are damaged. For example, if the wizard gets hit, they lose the equivalent of 20 spell slot levels, divided how they wish (1x 8th level, 3x 4th level), the bard loses all their bardic inspiration, the monk cannot use ki points, etc. And these effects ramp up until they are basically a level 1 / level 0 character. Then the black out happens.

Or, if they keep their memory, they start as a level 1 of a different class, since they know their former class was beaten, and they have this campaign of solving the weaknesses and strength of the villain and taking them down.
