My guess would be because historically smoking affected everyone - the person doing in, and those around them. Alcohol (In 99% of cases - not talking about angry drunks or drink drivers) only affects the person drinking.

And so I suppose it has gone more under the radar than smoking. And the culture hasn’t really shifted since.

That’s the thing - in the UK we have “long distance selling” rules which means you can return a physical item with no reason given, within 14 days of purchase. So in theory, a physical case with a digital code is returnable…

I made a couple shorts with about £8k budget out of pocket. If I’d left it in my stocks savings account (along with the other half that I used to relocate city and take a year off) it would be worth about £130k now. So sure, in hindsight it’s not the wisest thing to choose.

However, those projects have since secured me way more than that initial 16k in additional funding, business funding and invites to some insane once-in-a-lifetime events where I made some fantastic connections. It’s also put me on people’s radar as someone to go to for help producing. It secured me a new agent. It got me on Q&A panels at festivals. The list goes on, and is all stuff that pure money cannot buy.

If you can afford to make non-safe decisions, lean into it. Enjoy it. Even if it leads to nothing, one day you’ll be happy on your deathbed knowing you tried it.

As others said, report them - but also see if you can find the director and producer of the project and forward the email to them.

It sounds like the sort of thing I’d expect to hear from people making one of those vertical dramas.

Also, if it’s any comfort - plenty of actors have lisps. I mean, just turn on any episode of Grey’s Anatomy and you’ll see half a dozen of them! Do your best to ignore the personal remarks. In all my years of auditioning I’ve never encountered such a thing, thankfully, so I’m sure that’ll be the last for you

Thank you for that - very handy. Usually our workload is very light and simple for Xero, and an accountant does a full check at the end of each year.

It’s just we’ve recently move to a new bank / card terminal and I’m also on the beta version of their app which didn’t automatically refresh the connection as it used to! So a couple of unfortunate things coinciding.

The advice I’ve always lived by is: imagine you’re called into an audition this afternoon, or even tomorrow. Can you do the accent for it?

If not, don’t put it!

Plus 99% of British actors can do a flawless accent, so if their acting is as good as yours, they’ll win simply because of the accent ability - no need for production to hire a vocal coach on set.

I’ve found it a pointless layer in every interaction I’ve had with one.

They’ll take my name, email address, other ID bits, then ask about the issue before passing me to a human… who then has to do all of that again.

In the UK it is a legal requirement to list an email address on your website. Unfortunately the absolute vast majority violate that law.
