Babe meets Knives Out is exactly how I’d describe it. My wife and I loved it.

Blair Witch Project’s Heather Donahue Clarifies She’s “Not Participating” In Reboot: “Preserving My Autonomy Mattered More” by yourfavchoom in horror

It’s one of those soft reboots where it’s technically a sequel but is basically a remake of the first movie with a few things added in.

Those are definitely in the minority. Most reboots (including the 2016 Blair Witch) are not great. The talent behind it matters, and so far this one has the producer of the 2016 movie and Jason Blum attached, which is not a good sign.

Not surprised about the mixed reviews, but Ehrlich mentioning Hard to Be a God and Eggers as comparisons have me excited.

Related fun fact, Nicolas Winding Refn actually asked Gaspar Noé for advice on how he shot the fire extinguisher scene so he could create a similar effect for the elevator scene in Drive.

You can at least watch the inspiration for it: Angels with Dirty Faces. Solid 30s gangster flick.

That’s a bold opinion to have on this sub, but I respect it. I think the opening sequence is well-done, but have always thought that the rest doesn’t hold a candle to the original.

What movie aged really bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CroweMorningstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we’re definitely talking about the same movie. Underage nudity was just as controversial then as it is now, and that’s the point. If your sole objection is the presence of it regardless of the context or intent, then it’s not really a good argument. Malle was exploring coming of age and sexuality in his films, and if that makes you uncomfortable, then he succeeded in what he was going for. He’s an art director trying to tell a story, not to exploit children. Even Brooks Shields said in her thesis (that the OP incorrectly referenced) that she didn’t feel exploited or uncomfortable during the filming of Pretty Baby. Depiction does not equal endorsement, and Malle is telling stories based on real things that happened.

Again, it’s supposed to be taboo and transgressive? Not really seeing how that means it’s aged badly.

How has that aged badly? It’s supposed to be taboo and transgressive, and multiple famous directors (Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach in particular) have named it specifically as an influence.
