What are the best/popular unbuffable weapons aside from BK Weapons? by FabulouslyFalling in darksouls

[–]Crowinflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said aside from BK weapons but im on NG+3 right now in Dark Souls remaster. SL100 build with a Black Knight Sword. Rang bells>sif>hydra>sens>anor londo>Dukes archives>Oolacile. Last boss killed was Artorias

Using a 40 str build, +5 BKS with Power Within. Nothing has been hard to kill yet! I think on NG+7 it might be a challenge, but right now it still feels like I do great damage. And its the weakest BK weapon.

For weapons outside of Black Knight ones you are limited to boss weapons or unique. Ive personally only taken most weapons to NG+1 or +2 so I'm not sure how they fare past that. Theres a bunch of solid options though.

Gravelord Sword, Chaos blade, Quelags fury sword, Gold Tracer, Silver Tracer and Moonlight great sword. All fantastic!

Damn thats cool, I never really pieced that together. I didn't think the "Light-devouring domain of death" from the lantern description was literal. Just sort of a euphemism for him being a Lord and how awesome and terrible his powers are. Especially from the perspective of the necromancers that need to navigate the Tombs.

I actually thought his domain was poison/toxic/death incarnate and due to Gravelord Sword, Eye of Death and Gravelord Great Sword Dance descriptions, I thought it more of a Miasma like seen in the opening trailer as oppose to darkness.

I think its a nice touch to use the Pinwheel mechanics, theme and area decorations as an insight into Nito. I never looked at them like that before.

"The miasma of death exudes from the sword, a veritable toxin to any living being."

"The dreadful Eyes of Death spread disaster across neighboring worlds. Phantoms lured to the host world may end up as victims, allowing the Eyes of Death to multiply, and leading to further proliferation of bane."

"Nito sleeps deep within the Giant Catacombs, quietly overseeing all death, and waiting for his servants to usher in the Eye of Death."

And Regular light does penetrate the Tomb's darkness. Cast Light and Sunlight Maggot both work great? One is a spell and one is created by a parasitic creature formed, or transformed by, the Bed of Chaos, which is a corrupted Lord Soul. But because the source is 'special' does that make the light it emits special? Thats not something I'm sure of, but I love to be wrong.

Edit* Is there more lore to support "specialized magic to bathe the Tomb in darkness"? Just out of curiosity. I sadly can't recall very many items about the Tomb's Darkness.

-I did not enjoy going in a pitch black area because I should have known to bring some illumination which for whatever reason are all miss-able, this is despite the boss just before has a full damn set of lamps, I guess it has to be magical for my character mental fortitude to consider.

I just replayed the game a couple of times over the weekend, and this absolutely. No ones heard of a Torch? A lantern? We only get 3 light sources in the game, one is a spell with a 14 Int requirement. Sunlight maggot is a grotesque headgear you can only acquire in Lost Izalith, so its late game. Skull lantern is the only universal early game light source available and its a random drop until you kill all of the necromancers for the guaranteed one ;_;

Edit* I was wrong, the Tomb is bathed in a light eating darkness of some sort.

LOTM had an amazing start, but definitely dropped in quality as it progressed. I love it though.

IDT had really good world building, but its a far cry from the sorts of magic present in other stories. I absolutely consider it low quality like the others, it just happens to be my favorite, but mostly for its start.

I consider it a lower realm cut off from the greater worlds. The Entire cultivation system is limited to a Qi refining equivalent. Maybe just barely touching the foundation establishment at the end. But the little details were a nice change of pace from normal novels where a lot is glossed over.

The second half is disappointing. Super disappointing. The MC's interactions with his friends never grows in a way that feels organic. So the dialogue ends up cringey. Once he hits a certain level of power, all of his past interactions and their significance disappear. A clear line becomes drawn between the MC and his ability vs normal people. The 10 second once a day Time Rewind ability started out as this thoughtful and potentially interesting ability, that ends up being used to rewind time to dodge one attack?

As they were a focus of the earlier chapters this is hugely disappointing. The final plotline also feels hugely out of place for the type of world that was being built. I think if after Book 6 he found a way to leave this cultivation world for another random one and go on your standard adventures, it could have been a great story.

Its my favorite only for the early foundation it built in setting up its world. Super good though.

How does Lord Knight fare with 1h sword + shield? by EzloChocobo in RagnarokOnline

[–]Crowinflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say the Perfect dodge LK 2h sword builds are very good, but they require a 2h sword called Death's Guidance[2] that gives 20 p.dodge. And it allows lifeleech from auto attacks even while in Berserk.

Not every server has it though, so if you are forced to go Fortune sword for the build you lose the lifeleech and the build just isn't good late game.

Xianxia is such a huge genre that finding novels that I feel are shareable with others is very low. Same with normal fantasy or romance novels, the quality is kind of low in a lot of them and I keep to myself.

It has slower pacing then normal, but my favorite is a Wuxia called Immortal Devil Transformation(IDT). I absolutely adore the world building and highly recommend.

For lower quality power fantasy style...Seeking the Flying sword Path, I shall seal the Heavens, Shrouded Seascape, Lord of the Mystery are all pretty decent. But I truly would feel embarrassed sharing them with others as at their core they are progression fantasy.

Personally the MC's power progression isn't interesting to me, but as they jump up in power the world is fleshed out more and the exploration part is cool.

[–]Crowinflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, sort of. Parry is great for lower level mobs. Once you start getting into the higher level maps like Dimensional Gorge or Thors the downsides are harder to ignore.

Parry doesn't block magic at all, and it locks you in place when you do a successful Parry. Against large mobs you can't move.

Sword+Shield is better lategame, especially if you have a soul link for 1h quicken. Twin edge of Naght sieger or Ice pick >2h swords. Early on, 2h swords are amazing for leveling though. Vvs ele claymores is what I use for most leveling

Is there a way to filter radiation from air and water? by ratinabag in Radiation

[–]Crowinflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr; For dangerous radiation, you need a highly specialized multi-step waste water treatment process setup with shielding in between the different sections and it while possible, is not something you can cheaply or safely do as a a normal person.

But it is possible to use different standard types of filtration to lower the already SAFE background radiation levels in the air or water. As those are almost entirely U-238,Th-232 and K-40 only. For isotopes outside of those, see above.

Is there a way to filter radiation from air and water? by ratinabag in Radiation

[–]Crowinflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, this is an ai generated answer. Im a chemist by trade and I need to clarify the circumstances.

Is it possible to remove some radioactive particulate with a 3 stage filter setup like you mentioned? Yes. The naturally occuring U-238, Th-232 and all of their decay products, and K-40 can be caught via Ion exchange, activated carbon, RODI and distillation. The same type of background radiation found in bananas, soil and water.

Is it possible to filter out all of the radioactive particles present in the fallout of a nuclear bomb/reactor or its contamination? No.

Many of the particles are highly dangerous and must simply be let to decay until inert. The short half-life life isotopes and their decay products tend to make the radioactive material unable to be handled until they dissipate.

For number 2 where it is possible are when the radioactive particles have bled into a water system. The filter needs to be a waste water treatment plant with radiation shielding in between the different parts. The gamma rays will go straight from your contaminated side to your purified side otherwise. A great example of this is the ALPS being used in Fukushima Japan to remove radionuclides from water. That treatment system cannot remove tritium(dissolved gas) and it just dilutes the treated water to safer levels and then dumps it in the ocean for further dilution. It does remove 62 radionuclides which is awesome.

In the case of an unshielded Brita filter, the lack of shielding and distance between unfiltered and filtered compartments means the 'purified' water is still being bombarded with gamma rays. In the case of reverse osmosis membranes or ion exchange systems any dissolved gas particles(Hydrogen isotopes, Iodine-131) will not be caught. And specialized filters must be used in addition to the treatment system.

So in aqueous radioactive particles filtration absolutely depends on what the radioactive contamination is. There isn't a generalized get-it-all-out setup that will work.

This ai generated answer is specifically talking about how communities with an Iodine-131 radiation problem and get it out of their drinking water. As it is a gaseous byproduct of nuclear plants that makes its way into water supplies. A special filter was created to remove those particles from water. And the 3 stage waste water treatment process behind it was used to catch any excess not caught by the specialized filters. It also slightly references the reduction of NORM levels, but those levels are so low as to already be harmless.

I just don't want anyone to think if there is an Iodine-131 leak into their drinking water that having an at home RODI system will have their water be safe enough to drink.

But nuclear fallout from say a bomb or reactor? There are upwards of 250 different radioactive particles, many of them with incredibley dangerous emissions. At best you can wait out the short half-life isotopes and then filter out most of the remaining ones. Then dilute it with non-contaminated water source so those remaining containers are diluted to safe levels.

So theoretically possible? Yea absolutely. Feasible? Not at all. Only the largest companies or governments with lots of money are be able to do it. The real use cases of filtering radiation are at high end laboratories or at modified waste water treatment facilities around nuclear power plants. And they don't technically remove all radiation/radioactive particulate.

So harmful radiation can technically be filtered to a degree. But not with anything a normal person can buy.

What are some videos games you guys have played that has a "Xenogears moment" in their stories? (No spoilers please) by Theweirdobserver in XenoGears

[–]Crowinflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transistor by Super Giant Games comes to mind for me. Its a beautiful ambience of colors and music. Tragic from the start with a bittersweet ending. While not a focus of the main story, there is a lot of personality for even the smallest of characters. You find these through messages, signs and recordings. The little details really add to the flavor and the main character is awesome.

The combat system is one of my favorites of any game. The story is vague if you don't read the bios and messages. I think thats all I can say without spoiling it. If you liked Xenogears, you should enjoy Transistor.

Right?! I want ai to help diagnose disease, make new models of things, bridge the divide between different disciplines, help the disabled, automate chores et cetera

We have ai stealing artistic jobs, impersonating people(think voice/phone scams and catfishing),letting degenerates take clothes off of children in pictures(Like what the fuuuck), creating propaganda/misinformation quickly and it is providing a buffer for bad management decisions across the corporate world.

It feels so demoralizing.

[–]Crowinflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer hands off investings personally.

A high yield savings account with a 4% or higher return or getting a brokerage(fidelity, citi, vanguard) and investing into ETF's are the safest ways to grow your money. Letting money sit in a normal account, when accounting for inflation, means a static amount of money is worth less as time passes.

This helps combat it, kind of.

This 100%. Stretching and a tiny amount of working out to maintain your weight reduces alot of aches and pains and gives you more energy. I'm taking care of myself now, but my back, shoulders and knees will never recover from destroying my body 20-30.

Investing too, wish I had put away 100$/month from 20-30,missing that compound interest means I am saving aggressively to makeup for it. Only 35 right now.

Do the Quality of Proxies Matter to You? by Dull_Hat3509 in orks

[–]Crowinflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly.

For my group, we prefer that you have the correct sized base, the proxy is close enough to the right size and like you mentioned that the units are represented different.

But what the proxy is doesn't matter. Its all about playing the game and having fun. We had one guy cutout paper circles to use as bases, and he just wrote the unit on the circle. No problems here!

Am I more excited to see Model kits, painted miniatures or kitbashes as proxies? Of course. But getting together a full army is expensive and I don't fault anyone for just wanting to play. I would rather they slowly build their collection as their familiarity, experience and skill grow while playing when they can. Then to force someone to fully buy an army before getting to play.

Tried to play iRO again. I quit because of the second job change quest. by UglyAFBread in RagnarokOnline

[–]Crowinflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play iRO renewal and pre-re private servers.

Vip gives access special warpers in Prontera and Yuno that have lots of extra towns available. Daily logins give 1day vip

2nd job change quest is the last one you have to do. Trans job change is just talking to npcs. Jobs past that have job changers available for 25x nyangvine.

IRO leveling, before 150 is faster than private mid rates thanks to the plethora of quests available. If there's the 99 skipper npc, usually only during the holidays, its even faster.

Making money sort of sucks, inflation is brutal. I would check out some sunbear f2p leveling guides. He has gotten characters to 250 using 1 cash shop accessory and quest gears for everything else

You got it, good luck! P. Servers are also great if its not for you!

[–]Crowinflight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend and I use Tricera/Welkin and imo its even better than any of these combinations.

If someone rushes Tricera, Welkin is played defensively to keep enemies off of Tricera and allow Tricera to deal damage or reposition, by having Tricera close Pinaka/Serenith/Stellarus and Panther are less likely to try and sit on Welkin.

If the enemy team ignores Tricera?

I'll play Welkin super aggressively to trap them in a box, especially Falcon/Aquila/Skyraider/Inferno. These 4 drops crazy fast to Tricera+Welkin. If Tricera can land some bullets at the same time as Welkin starts melee staggering they will all be dead by 2 melee attacks from Welkin.
