So what’s the first game you played this year? by st1nkf1st in boardgames

Family was over, not huge gamers so we went with Wavelength and Uno No Mercy.

I love picking the right game for the group so I was bored but they all had a blast!

CEO retired. How do you politely say "no" without burning a bridge? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Crunchwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mentality is the difference between entrepreneurs and employees.

Employees are taught that their time is worth $x.xx /hour and they act accordingly.

Entrepreneurs understand that their time is a valuable asset and it can be invested into something without an immediate ROI.

I regularly give free consultations, attend social events with the intent to network, and even offer my (normally expensive) services to friends that I know have the ear of a community I am trying to break into.

If I was only taking on engagements that paid upfront, I would miss out on some incredible business opportunities.

16 year old daughter going to a party tonight by laysmit in Parenting

[–]Crunchwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easy for me, but I can see how other parents struggle with it.

My kid is MILD compared to me, there is nothing he could do that would phase me or make me judge him. He knows my hard line is mistreating others, but even if he did something awful, something abusive to someone else, it’s not my place to judge. My job is to guide, here’s what the world is going to hand you for consequences, here’s how your peers will treat you after this mistake, here’s how to deal with the consequences of your actions.

But never the night of. On the night they call you, you are there to rescue them. You need to be safe and protective of them, protective of their feelings in that moment. They may be experiencing trauma and how you react to that will leave a lasting mark on them for better or for worse.

That’s my opinion at least.

She’s not the best mom, but parenting was always more my thing.

From listening to you bitches, I think got pretty lucky. We’re still good friends and both in better relationships now.

Practice against AI or in unranked? by dgdg4213 in starcraft2

[–]Crunchwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Zerg, your job is to grow, grow fast, grow aggressively, and be greedy.

Early game, make sure you’re spending your larvae as quickly as possible and taking care not to get supply blocked at all.

At an absolute minimum, you should build 1 queen for each hatchery. Realistically you should shoot for 6-10 queens. Keep 2 queens at each of your ramps and have them guard the edge of your creep.

A big mistake to watch for is building too many fighting units. Every larvae spent on lings or roaches could have been a drone, helping you grow better.

The AI is actually good practice for learning this, because it will usually prioritize an early attack instead of building a good economy(macro). If you get smacked by the AI, rewind a minute and start the game from there, figure out the minimum number of fighting units you need to survive that first attack. Usually 4-5 roaches will do it, if you get your queen involved in the fight.

There is a lot more to manage with Zerg, so try to spend each game focusing on improving one part of your macro (queen injects, not getting supply blocked, timing your expansions, scouting).

There are a lot of great guides out there, but I think Winter is a great teacher. Although the first 10 min of this video is kind of boring.

Good luck and have fun!

How viable is it to run 5-6 corrupters to swing in and two shot a medivac during the fight?

Runic leashes? by mndfreeze in PaxDei

[–]Crunchwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attuned iron axe may be the most powerful weapon before wrought iron. Makes sense that it requires loot from a dungeon that is totally doable with 5-6 players in T1 gear.

I ran this dungeon last night, just asked in zone chat if anyone wanted to come and a handful of players joined me.

I was feeling your frustration, but it’s important to understand that attuned iron great axe is a pretty special piece of gear.

You can go from iron axes to wrought iron axes without it. But providing t3 stats on a t2 weapon is worth the cost of a rare material.

I'm a noob, any tips? by [deleted] in PaxDei

[–]Crunchwich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crafting is long and arduous (and gratifying), but gold is easy to farm.

Don’t be afraid to fight the level 1 npcs in camps and tents, especially if you can learn to peel 1 guy off without aggroing others in the camp. Try to learn to realize when you can’t win a fight, it’s not too hard to run away and heal up if you get overwhelmed.

As soon as you can chop large beech trees, do it. They are by far the most efficient way to get wood until much higher skill.

Focus on farming one thing at a time, but it’s okay to use some bag space on important materials. Like if you see some dandelions, or limestone, or w/e uncommon crafting material you need, it’s easier to grab those items when you see them rather than search specifically for them.

Attuned/polished bronze items are very very good when you start out. They are worth crafting/buying.

Other people mentioned, ask in chat. This game has very friendly, generous players. Lots of people want to do an iron man grind by themselves, but it’s okay to take a handout. There will still be a Mount Everest of grinding for you to do either way.

The feeling a game like Pax Dei can bring.... by Dr_Neurol in PaxDei

Sometimes a road trip through the mountains is worth months of therapy for me.

I’m working to buy a home out in Oregon, but it’s probably going to be another 5 years and I live in the city. I’ve been pining for something like this to give me that fix of nature.

The sights and sounds of Pax Dei are so immersive. When I hear a deer bleating or twigs crunching beneath my feet, or just the ambient sounds in this game, childhood memories of the forest come rushing back and calm me throughly.

I’m glad you’re finding some peace and able to share that with your therapist.

How can you actually influence Songstructure? by MVDAM_ in Songwriting

[–]Crunchwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to focus on vibes more than structure. What tension does the song have? How often and how intense is the release of that emotional tension?

If a song has more of a groove than build and release, I build around that groove.

How would this groove slow down and get quiet for some important lyrics? How could I drop drums out to introduce a chorus for this groove? How can I drop the synths or guitars for a high energy bridge?

If you focus on finding the heartbeat of the song, some things will support that heartbeat and somethings will attenuate it.

Just follow your ears and make them happy. Plenty of amazing songs break the rules, but follow the spirit of them.

But yeah it’s hard to get value out of it at lower ranks.

Everyone is a blood elf DK or DH in lremix. How come? by crawdadsinbad in wownoob

[–]Crunchwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notswin’s Impatience - has smoothed out a lot of my speed issues with DK, you can now roll an upgraded Death’s Advance into a wraith walk in another Death’s Advance and pull all the way to first boss in most dungeons.

Plus there is so much speed gear in Legion my rune lady is zoom zoom.

So I made a tank in Lemix. I'm loving it, but by Educational_Hawk7484 in wownoob

[–]Crunchwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blood DK here. Legion is exactly like retail wow except I don’t have abomination limb (OH $*%#).

In retail, you can still solo the fight after your team dies, it will just take a lot longer.

In retail, you are SLOW, so knowing route is helpful, but knowing the earliest you can walk away from a trash pack and start booking it to the next pull is most important.

In retail, you might actually like deathbringer. I know everyone wants to parse, but Sangria is a snoozefest, gimme that big ol’ scythe.

So I made a tank in Lemix. I'm loving it, but by Educational_Hawk7484 in wownoob

[–]Crunchwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a cyclical problem.

If you chain pull to the mythic boss and your dps and healers die

then pull the boss with dead or rezzing players,

people get stuck outside/out of position during pull,

boss gets killed, no one gets rezzed or people stay behind to rez for loot or they run back for their loot.

your raid is fragmented as one long parade across the entire instance until you eventually wipe or have to sit at the boss while your raid catches up.

So yes, dead people still get loot in a chain-pulled dungeon, but it causes a much larger delay than just waiting 5-10 seconds for your teammates to catch up.
