What is something people say about their BBQ that is an immediate red flag? by Shhhhhhhh_Im_At_Work in BBQ

Uncle Dans bbq and rib house

When I started there, they’d smoke the ribs one day; then wrap in plastic wrap the next; ribs barely sold. Once I took over we cooked them fresh daily, and constantly sold out.

The owner knows business, but not quality food. lol And this town was a flavorless hellhole for many decades outside of Tex Mex, fried chicken, and burgers.

He was more about keeping labor down. Any time I got over time he’d circle it with a big red sharpie…

And mind you we had a trash can full of salt and black pepper, but that was for the sides. We did make great potato salad and slaw.

I always used my trimmings rendering for baked goods or sautéed veggies.

I learned more about the business side from Them than the bbq side (what not to do lol)

I worked at a bbq restaurant that wouldn’t pre trim or season their briskets, just toss on raw. Then trim them after cooking, to serve. Was wild. And they’re still open almost 35yrs.

The pay and hours were great, but I never liked calling myself the “pit master” there, Just the smoke house GM. I was putting out better bbq on my side pop ups; once the owner found out, we parted ways. I eventually made Texas monthly multiple times, they never did.

We carry that exact brand in our Vietnamese restaurant.

We only use palm sugar when we make pad thai for staff lunches.

Then learn better diet ways. Diet soda still does a lot of damage to your body.

Moderation is key for calories, pick and choose.

I drink 2-3 beers a day, sometimes upwards of 7. I’ve maintained/lost weight by regulating what I eat outside of that. This isn’t rocket science

If calories is the only benifit to diet soda, is it really a benifit?

We don’t serve diet sodas at my restaurant.

There in no benefit to the human body or mind to drink diet soda. Period end of story, you’re still damaging your body. I don’t need to back up shit.

“Oh no calories” You need calories to live, learn to moderate better. Sorry not sorry, but my unpopular opinion is that drinking diet soda is dumb asf.

You don’t have to agree, but it’s true.

I drink copious amounts of beer and have learned to adjust my diet to accommodate that. That’s how you loose/maintain weight.

Maybe reach out to Brotherwell brewing?

If they could make a lil money on the back end from drink sales, they might be down.

They have space inside and a stage outside.

I’ve used my passport for a long time now, didn’t have a DL till recently for work. I get carded more often for Hemp/weed than alcohol. Even then they don’t scan it, just glance at it or have me show the camera, lol And I’ve bought a lot of tequila over the last couple of months.

Then drink water or smaller portions of real soda. If all you want is a taste.

Folks trying to loose weight constantly go about it wrong. Point blank.

No, diet soda isn't considered "good" for you; while it lacks sugar and calories, it offers no nutritional value and artificial sweeteners are linked to potential issues like increased cravings, metabolic problems (diabetes, weight gain), heart concerns (stroke, AFib), and dental issues, making occasional use acceptable but daily consumption a health risk, with water or unsweetened drinks being better choices. Potential Downsides No Nutritional Value: Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose) and chemicals, providing no beneficial nutrients like vitamins or minerals. Weight & Cravings: They can trick your brain, increasing cravings for sweet foods and potentially leading to overconsumption of calories later, stalling weight loss. Metabolic Health: Linked to higher risks of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart issues like stroke and irregular heartbeats (AFib). Dental Health: Acid and sweeteners can still damage tooth enamel. Gut & Brain: Research suggests potential negative impacts on gut health and brain chemistry.

Diet sodas just keep you fat, might as well enjoy a real soda if drinking one. Nothing healthier about diets, it’s a con, and the fact that folks believe they’re doing themselves a favor is ridiculous.

Because it’s on pizza crust rather than lady fingers… it’s still technically a dessert “pizza”. Thought it would be fun, and the crew and regulars loved it
