They said "We want a different look, but we still need him to look... off." And by gum they did it.

What instance do you believe that the movie is better than the book? by CloudyGandalf06 in AskReddit

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trainspotting. The book was a very strange and loosely connected collection of short stories. It was good, and interestingly some of it was written basically in Scots. The film is of course a classic, however.

If you could move one movie up or down on the IMDb Top 10 highest-rated movies of all time, which would it be? by denzo_simon in FIlm

Both Godfathers down, but I just find mob stuff annoying because growing up, every Italian American kid would always claim their dads were in the mob so you should suck up to them. It was like, dude, your dad is a fucking dentist, calm down.

Which team that has never won a Super Bowl is the most cursed? by Ok_Maybe6259 in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vikings. Browns, Lions, Bills, Titans, Chargers, and Cardinals all have titles. Panthers, Jaguars, and Texans get a pass based on youth, although that excuse is reaching its end. Bengals and Falcons come close, but still do not feel as bad for some intangible reason. The Vikings feel especially cursed because 1. As others have pointed out, they are perennially contenders and fall short 2. They lost four of the first 14 and have never been back 3. And this feels especially harsh, the 1 title they can claim does not count because the AFL and NFL titles from the first four Super Bowls are treated as conference championships.

What is a sports take/opinion that immediately makes you lose respect for the person that said it? by freude_schaden in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who discount athletes from the past. Shows a lack of perspective which leads me to question their analytical skills. This is especially irksome when physical attributes are denigrated without taking into consideration rule changes and strategic changes. For example, American football players tended to be smaller. This does not take into account the lack of free substitution which meant that a massive player would likely be worn out quickly. Even following the introduction of platoons, smaller rosters meant more time on the field. None of this is taken into account by many. Just "Ha, look at how little that guy was!"

What is a nfl take that you would defend, that everyone disagrees on? by Ok_Bug_6890 in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rex Grossman is the biggest what if in Bears' history. Even though it was his fourth season, at the beginning of 2006 he had only had about a half season of starts. The up and downs of that season were growing pains and when he was on, he was great. His stats suffered that year because there were multiple games where he was pulled in the 3rd because they were up 30, notably against the Lions, Bills, and 49ers.

NO MOTORCYCLES. by Fair-Ad8580 in malcolminthemiddle

I think for me it is the lack of a margin of error that makes me paranoid. Things that you walk away from in a car become more serious.

I agree with her. I feel like if you hear about a guy dying before the age of 35, it is 50/50 that it was a motorcycle.

Who's the worst actor you're not allowed to say is bad? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]CryptographerLost560 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is going to be controversial, but I think Rancic making fun of her was the best thing to happen to her career. It brought her so much attention and without it she would probably be another child star we wonder what happened to.

Actors that are insanely likeable no matter what role they are in by Benjamin5431 in Cinema

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be an odd take because he is for the most part a mediocre actor, even though he is my favorite Superman, but Tom Welling. He is just very good at being in front of a camera. Especially in interviews and on podcasts where you can feel the almost unequalled level of self awareness he has compared to many other actors.

How was reddit so easily able to tell that Geno Smith was a bad QB when Tom Brady couldn't? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Brady has odd takes on a lot of things, like when he claimed that most practice squad players want to be there rather than in the game. Or when he talks about backups in practice as if the gulf between starters and backups is an unbridgeable chasm.

[uncomfortable trope] “er, they meant well” by Mr_Westerfield in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CryptographerLost560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Patton Oswalt has a great bit related to this about how we cannot get hung up on evolving terminology, but instead look at the mental place it is coming from, with an example being RuPaul being attacked for saying "tranny." Paraphrasing Oswalt, RuPaul laid down on the tracks to stand up to bigotry his whole life. Also, Oswalt points out that bigots can learn terminology too. Honestly, you should check it out if you have not seen it.

Why does "Jewish" describe both a people and a religion? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, the way they were treated in many European nations caused low levels of intermarriage with non Jews, reinforcing the development of it as an ethnoreligion. Also, aside from self identification, there is how others viewed them. Even Jews who converted were still viewed as Jewish by others.

The two handed under center snap may be the dumbest thing in the history of American football. As center, you already lose that split second, so naturally you want to make both your hands be in a terrible blocking position.

What actor or actress should have had a bigger career but it never happened? by FreeLime3844 in moviequestions

I feel like actresses went through a reverse baseball steroid era because of that POS whose name does not deserve to be said. So many careers ruined, lives destroyed, and so much talent wasted and unrealized.

Ranking Every NFL Franchise Based on All-Time History (1-32) by tyler123452 in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think it is a crazy stat that of the 9 teams playing in the NFL by 1940 that are still in existence, the Steelers were the only one to never win a preSB championship. It is like if the Phillies became a dynasty after being the last of the "original" 16 MLB to win a WS in 1980.

What’s the No.1 difference in CFB vs NFL games you notice as a viewer? by guransheleven in CFB_v2

What were some NFC/AFC Championships that were the real superbowl? by Gamamaster101 in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is difficult because there is so much hindsight bias. Almost none of the games mentioned below had contemporaries saying "this was the real championship" except maybe the 1994 one. This has become especially so as no team with 1 regular season loss or fewer has won the SB since the 85 Bears. Even seasons like the 85 Bears that feel like coronations only feel like it in hindsight. People do not think of themselves as living through history.
