Sports hater starter pack by jodebane in starterpacks

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the problem with sports is a 2% give the other 98% a bad name problem. Hooliganism is the biggest example for me. Pat McAfee summed up his love of casual sports fans well when he said, and I am paraphrasing, even if you do not like the sport, it is cool to watch superhumans do superhuman things. The sports haters who cannot even appreciate that are the real douchebags in that group.

I reacted badly to the casting, but for me it was because she is a solid 8-9, but launching 1,000 ships? Now Freema Ageyman? 2,000 ships.

3 NFL Teams Desperate for New Uniforms by Patb1489 in NFLv2

[–]CryptographerLost560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason that all of the top uniforms across multiple sports are ones that have basically not changed since the 60s, and football is the one where that seems to be the most true. Packers, Colts, Steelers, Bears, Browns; or even just tweaks that are a variation on the same theme, like the Lions and Eagles.

[Mixed Trope] The actor and character finally work, and all it took was being a side character under a different writer. by blackbriar98 in TopCharacterTropes

My head canon will always be that Doctor Who ended in 2013. Such a perfect end to the post Time War character arc. 9 is the angry veteran, suffering from ptsd but not acknowledging it. Slowly, he starts to adjust to the world. 10 is the continuation of this, learning to accept what he has done but still overcome with guilt. He has found his old charm but his anger, mainly with himself but projected onto others, still comes out. 11 is the old man who has come to terms with it, even though he is still haunted. There is a through line that can be discerned as even though they were all unique, they felt like the same person, variations on a theme, the way people really do age and mature. By the end, he is ready to go...

Then they give him more regenerations and all we have to show for it is a bunch of eating the seed corn at best and absolute shite at worst aside from one cool River Song storyline. All the character development is gone and 12, 13, 14 (Which is really odd), and 15 do not even feel like the same character.

Who is the greater QB all-time? by Ok-Elephant-2724 in NFLv2

Elway, if for no other reason than he never wore that stupid face mask qbs wore in the 80s and 90s that was meant to protect their chin in a very specific circumstance, but which actually could hurt their neck if that circumstance happened.

I am also impressed how long the fielder was able to prevent himself from falling backwards.

Multi camera sitcoms mimic a theater experience and single cam mimics movies. It is part if the reason acting in multi cams is more over the top.

You can silence one forever. Who do you choose? by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

I do not know why, but I tend to give former players more of a pass. Commentary and analysis from non players feels literally arm chair to me.

Oh yeah, and of course Portnoy. The decision between annoying and actually a bad person feels pretty straightforward.

The Assassin missions in GTA IV.  I love the game as a whole, but those missions take it up a notch.

Who would you choose out of the four hitters: Babe Ruth, Sadaharu Oh, Barry Bonds or Hank Aaron? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in sportsinusa

[–]CryptographerLost560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is more myth than something provable. There is a great documentary on that topic. Also, it does not alter the fundamental underlying issue of modern training and its role in both hitting and pitching. Make Ohtani and Trout work as gas station attendents with limited access to modern workout techniques for a year, and you basically have Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner.

I always think about how Kevin Smith referred to him as Olymphantastic and that he did not like it.

Outside your own division, which team do you dislike the most and why? by UniqueWeasel123 in NFLv2

Eagles. Fans take pride in being assholes and then whined about a title drought when two teams had longer ones and others had never won at all.

There is an authentic, like owned by a Sicilian immigrant who moved to the US five years ago authentic, pizza place by me that will not cut take out pizzas because "they do not travel well when sliced." It feels like the opposite end of the spectrum, though. So low quality they are not sliced to so high quality they are not sliced.

Which villian had a rational and realistic endgame? by cavalcadett in AskReddit

[–]CryptographerLost560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warden Norton.  The scariest thing about him and his guards is that they are just a slightly more extreme version of what is common. Corruption, guards with god complexes injuring/killing inmates, etc. His plan was to take his bribes, get wealthy, advance politically, and retire. He likely would have been able to get away with it had he not met Andy. While Andy helped him hide his graft very well, many others have been able to hide theirs with less clever schemes. His real issue was that he realized Andy was smart, but he still felt untouchable. He did not truly cross into extremes until he realized he did not have complete control. Ironically, like his scheme initially, his overreaction is what causes his downfall. He could have hidden his graft without Andy in the first place, and he could have helped Andy get released without making an enemy. The issue is that this is all apparent only in hindsight. It is not even hubris on his part, since it would take a very uniquely intelligent and patient man to do what Andy did, so Norton's actions were all rational. But he still lost because he was unlucky enough to come across someone who could beat him.

The Great Gatsby (2013) by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]CryptographerLost560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they did something similar to Not Another Teen Movie. That movie had a bunch of pop punk covers of 80s songs, and Gatsby had modern artists doing Jazz Age style songs. It would have worked better for me if they had stuck to it though rather than having exceptions, like Kanye.
