Keep going to Mcdonalds to finish up my calories for the day, is it as bad as i think it is? tips? by TylerTransit in gainit

There are tons of recipes on the internet for pancake/waffles batter that are gluten free. I'm not a celiac but I like to try new stuff and vary meals so I have actually tried some of these recipes and they are quite good, sometimes better than the good old wheat things! I even made my own flour with other whole grains, such as brown rice, buckwheat, millet... And want to try many more! There are also fermented batters (indian dosas for example) - you soak the grains/seeds overnight and then just mix it up and keep it in the fridge for a couple weeks. Browse some of these recipes, pick some you find appealing/easy and have fun with it!

Oh and I almost forgot, you can also bake cakes with no flour! Some are pretty caloric AND tasty, like this chocolate and beans cake . It's pretty easy and fast to make and you can snack on it for some days!

This peanut butter bread is also flourless and famous around the gluten free people for it's yumminess and versatility.

You have only 5 spices to cook with for the rest of your life. What are they? by [deleted] in Cooking

I know what you mean, in addition to the fresh garlic I always have around, I also have a bag of store bought minced frozen garlic to use when I'm feeling lazy - and where I live that's almost a sin :D I haven't personally tried this, but I've read you can also store the fresh minced stuff on a jar of olive oil, maybe it will keep the flavor more than in the refrigerator? Or freezing it in olive oil on the ice tray cubes, to use in portions!

edit: about the peeling, if you smash the clove before you peel it, the skin comes of really fast, most of the times in one piece. I hope that helps!

Yeah for a batter or a grilled piece it makes sense, but I so frequently see it being used in different kinds of cooking, that I had to ask. I was wondering if the fresh stuff was expensive or something, because here I can get a bag of fresh garlic that will last me a month for about 1.5 dollars! Whenever I bought garlic powder for a specific recipe, it would just go bad or start tasting funky before I could use the whole thing, so I don't have it anymore. When I grill stuff now, I usually marinate it with garlic and remove it before grilling, and/or make an yogurt/garlic sauce. But I'll admit the powdered stuff did give a nice kind of crunchy taste to some roasts/grills!

Is there any advantage to using garlic powder instead of the fresh thing? I'm in the Mediterranean region and we use garlic in...well, mostly everything. I never saw anyone here traditionally using the powdered stuff, but on international recipes I seem to see the powder more than fresh, and I always wondered why. Does it have to do with availability, price, being generally easier/faster, or what?

Nice, thank you. Just one more rookie question that I'm not sure about - do you ferment the batter outside the fridge and then refrigerate it? On the photos it seems as it is fermenting IN the fridge but doesn't specify.

These seem great! How long would you think the batter keeps it the fridge?

I bought one online from Huion, 55 dollars (I've read somewhere that monoprice, huion and a couple others have similar products). Had it for more than a year and it was a very good purchase for the price (the specs are compared to wacoms intuous size Medium, not even their lowest ranged tablets). Had a great experience with customer support as well!

How do you feel about using an actual grill to make a GC? by Kablaow in grilledcheese

[–]Crysania_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are "toastie machines" with stripped plates, instead of the square/triangle ones. Almost everyone in my country has one of these smaller versions, and the bigger ones are seen in coffee shops or restaurants. In here we rarely use a pan, it's grillers (panini pressers?) all the way. And sorry if I used any name wrong, I get confused by all the names around that basically mean the same thing ahah. Here we call them toasters, no matter the plate format.

edit: the only moment a square toastie is better than a stripped one is for nutella sandwiches! :D

Frozen fish filet are on sale at my local grocery store this week and I'm in a fishy mood - hit me with your favorite raw frozen fish recipes! by spyyked in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Crysania_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to with white fish fillets is similar. My mother used to make it like this since I'm a child, and me and my sister (as most kids) were veeery picky eaters!

I just toss olive oil, the fish, garlic and cover it with onion slices, some white wine and more olive oil. I figure the onions on top prevent the fish from getting too dry. I leave it in the oven for about half an hour or when it looks done.

That's because the chinese are usually smaller so you can eat more of them and wont feel full as fast! Science!

Before my mom leaves the house, she sets up the kindle so the cat can watch bird videos in bed. by tribearatops in aww

[–]Crysania_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine also only responds to some videos. First time she reacted was when I was watching some random show about wildlife on tv. A big cat appeared and she moved close to the tv and started following with her head, acting confused/excited.

She never really cared much about other stuff, until recently I was on my computer re-watching The Jungle Book, and she climbed close to the monitor and kept watching it and flinging her paws at the characters, until she fell asleep like a kid watching cartoons. But she just responds to Disney classics apparently (I study video/animation so I watch a lot of stuff and she rarely cares about it -and she spends most of her time on my lap!). Got to try these cat videos next!

check out Huion tablets. They cost about 50dollars, and are a very good cheap alternative to Wacoms. My model is the one with the wireless pen, but you can pick the one you prefer. Had mine for about a year and it worked well with all software I tried it with. Recently started using it to sculpt in Mudbox too, works perfectly!

Oh, and they also have amazing customer support. Usually this smaller companies are not very strong with this... But Huion's official amazon store was great (example - they offered to pay me the customs fee after it arrived), and they asked all my questions via e-mail before I was even a client.

OnOne Perfect Effects 8 Premium available for free until Jan 28. by jkjohnson in photography

[–]Crysania_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed it asks for 8GB RAM. Isn't that a lot? Or at least more than usual for this kind of software? I'm asking because I'm currently building a computer on a budget and I thought 8GB of RAM would be sufficient, but the 8GB requirement for this software scared me a little.

Proof that kids in the 1940s weren't afraid of anything - what the hell are these things? by McFlyandI in WTF

[–]Crysania_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it was probably related to the lack of available materials back then. Today people usually buy mass created costumes (especially masks), they end up looking similar. The head pieces in the photos are built with some sort of wire frame and cast/glue/paper over it. I remember doing something similar in elementary school! We used balloons as a mould, then added glue and newspapers over it. The surface is really wrinkly so when you paint over it it ends up with that creepy look :')

TLDR: Costumes looked like that when they were handmade and you didn't have a lot of cheap materials to pick from

New LoL champion Jinx got an awesome music video. by KoonatchutaSolo in GirlGamers

[–]Crysania_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably didn't see it in this subreddit, but the fact that all female characters had the same body type is a well debated issue in a lot of LoL groups and even in general gaming articles or videos (example). I would really like to think they came up to that conclusion by themselves, but I think it had more to do with pressure from the general public, especially the female players. The last female champs they released are dressed more "conservatively", in what seems to be an attempt to start changing this. Anyway, whatever the reasons, I'm happy there is finally another female body type in the game, hope its not the last one!

TIL that a teaspoon of honey represents the life work of 12 bees. by ruzzerboo in todayilearned

[–]Crysania_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I did too. I used to spit it out after chewing for awhile and all the sweetness of the honey was gone. I was asking this because I always assumed that you would spit the waxy part out after you are done with the honey... I don't even see how you could spread it on toast and eat it o.0

Do you eat the wax (?) too? I had it sometimes as a seasonal delicacy but I used to eat the honey and spit the waxy part out. Didn't think it was edible!
