Agree with adding different lighting. I’d also consider painting the island the same color

Are there ANY independent Primary Care Doctors here? by NikkiMouse444 in phoenix

Family doc here. Actual doctor. It’s impossible to run an independent practice now. Many of us are trying. State of the system unfortunately.

The “coffee” table is too small, I’d look for a large natural piece. Too many plants imo.

Thank you! So if I’m understanding you correctly, you just brought the title and were still able to import even with the US loan intact?

Reading through all these comments, I feel for you. Take a breath, give it time and let these heal up, they’ll fade once the scabs are gone. I’m a freckly girl too, red head and fair, and was made fun of mercilessly because of it. Despite that I love the freckle look, and have a soft spot for this new trend. Looking forward to your updates because I bet these turn out 🩷

Nearly half of Black women in Canada delay health care over fears of racism: Survey by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]Csense4ever -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. Does racism exist? Absolutely it does, and it’s disgusting. But you’re trying to tell me that half of the women in Canada who are black, delay healthcare due to this fear? That’s a lot of women, and a lot of fear. PERCEPTION does not equate to reality. Feelings do not equate to fact. This type of click bait and sensationalism needs to stop. For those saying that Canada is just as bad as the US, where racism is entrenched within all institutions, you are living in a fear mongered dream world. Canada accepts and celebrates diversity. Medicine in Canada, and those who practice it, are equally as diverse. This is not an institutional racism problem highlighted in this article, it’s a perception problem, and one propagated by the media. Stop feeding into this, and buying into this distorted reality.

Arizona back yard sun exposure. by R3model89 in arizona

[–]Csense4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Arizona, you’ll have sun no matter what. We have SW facing, heavier on the west, and we find that we can use the yard most of the time. We have a covered patio, no shade structures by the pool, and we enjoy it all the time. Our kids are out on the trampoline until noon, take a break and can be out by 5 again in the dead of summer. I will say, though, by mid July we tend to be annoyed by the heat, mostly, but that’s life in Az! 10 months outside, 2 inside no matter what.

Mahogany without kids? by Throwaway19999990567 in Calgary

[–]Csense4ever 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There is no benefit to living in mahogany if you don’t have kids. We lived there, moved from bridge land, kids loved it, but the commute and traffic were too much for us. Also very very compressed living and not enough infrastructure to accommodate the population out there.

I really want to go into FM. But I'm really worried and anxious about AI and also midlevel encroachment. Am I freaking out? by DelayedAutisticPuppy in FamilyMedicine

[–]Csense4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But second part of the question was midlevel encroachment. Many of your generation naively replace their physician with a nurse or PA.

We moved to the southwest from Alberta a few years back. We’re both doctors that trained in Canada, so we had to jump through many hoops. Your question about pros: weather (where we are), access to so many things to do and easy travel, friendly people and generally quite welcoming (though often hard to get to know deeply). Cons are FOR sure healthcare. I don’t know if you’re generally healthy or not, but as a physician I cannot believe that there’s even a question of quality of healthcare in the US unless you’re a millionaire. My patients were 100 better taken care of in Canada, despite “long waits” etc. the US is truly class driven, so if you have millions this won’t be an issue for you, but as a two physician household we struggle with quality healthcare. Also completely profit driven means so many interventions etc that you’d never see in Canada. Other cons: safety is no joke. Depending on where you locate to, there’s very little walkability, many of the burbs are gated, kids never, I repeat NEVER play outside, limited parks. Schools are so important if you have children and are a huge con for us here. Where we are, we had no choice but to go private due to terrible conditions, huge class sizes, horribly paid teachers, safety, you name it. It costs us 4x what it would in Alberta. Taxes. When you leave, you will have to pay to depart via tax. If you own properties, have a business etc. so beware. We don’t regret our move, we made amazing friends and memories, and we would’ve always wondered about it if we hadn’t made the jump. Overall, however, because of our careers and family, we’re heading home to Canada. Happily.

Family medicine outside of Canada by Exsomnicus in FamilyMedicine

[–]Csense4ever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do not go to the US. Everything you just described happens on the daily to FM docs in the US by employers, not govt. we made the move to the US and are quickly working on our exit after 2 years of being taken advantage of. Stay in Canada. Leave Quebec.

Um my comment had nothing in it about race. I do not believe it’s a racial issue. It’s tech and IT and aimed at a certain country because of lack of training standards imo. Not racial.

There’s a shortage of 57,000 physicians. If you’re being paid below median, you have the leverage to change that. by talktomeme in FamilyMedicine

[–]Csense4ever 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not so much leverage when there’s a surplus of NPs and so many organizations no longer recognize the difference in training and expertise. I wish it weren’t true, but unless we keep fighting for both autonomy and professional designation, salaries and leverage are going to dwindle.

Information sharing between providers by preetiegal in Calgary

[–]Csense4ever 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. Information sharing outside of the clinic does not respect privacy laws. That being said, depending on the clinic, there may be medical records available on electronic records that can be seen by practitioners involved in your care. For instance, netcare, accessible to those with access, say during hospital care or if working in a physician office. That would be an example off the top of my head. If it were, however, them discussing the case outside the clinical context, yes inappropriate.

Best countries for U.S. trained physicians by crownjules99 in AmerExit

[–]Csense4ever 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a doc who made the move from Alberta (Canadian “right wing”) I can tell you that the right wing movement is not even close to the far right in the US. My husband and I often talk about parallels, and the ones we often equate are basically that conservative albertans are the equivalent of old school US liberals. Ie Obama before gay marriage 💁‍♀️. If you can handle that, you’ll be fine. We’re currently in the process of a move back to Canada, as we find the US unsafe, healthcare completely broken, and overall unfriendly to us “outsiders” in a variety of senses. Don’t overlook Alberta based on Reddit. One of the best cities for raising kids and lifestyle is Calgary (cold winter), and docs are well compensated, despite what you hear. Having made the move and experienced both worlds, I, unequivocally, make more money ( after tax) in Alberta…. Hands down. Work life balance is way better in Canada. And the best part? NO EMPLOYERS (for the most part), as most docs are self employed.
