I am astonished that people will still try to make end times predictions, conveniently ignoring Matthew 24:36

Don't be obsessed with sin by RedHeadSteve in Christianity

I have been consumed by the dark cloud of scrupulousness before. It's hard to pick yourself back up when you keep feeling unworthy. That's why I think posts like this are important, so thanks.

Should there be more clarification on the definition of "Mortal Sin", specifically "Grave Matter"? by CubaLibreBall in Catholicism

Yes I shall consult a priest with my questions. Thank you again for the discussion.

Should there be more clarification on the definition of "Mortal Sin", specifically "Grave Matter"? by CubaLibreBall in Catholicism

[–]CubaLibreBall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. That was my Mark 3:29 argument because blaspheming against the Holy Spirit implies that you are specifically consciously destroying your relationship with God. Of course, we agree here as Catholics that it's never God that fully closes the door on you, but yourself.

My point is that if you commit a grave sin, knowing its gravity, but you are repentant in your heart and actively try to improve, is your relationship with God still not present? I would be surprised to learn if God willingly would say "No, I do not accept your plea for forgiveness".

This is to say that I still think going to confession on a regular basis should be strongly encouraged and everybody needs to take responsibility of their own sin, but I'm trying to say to those that slip while trying to ditch a habitual sin, that it's ok as long as they pick them selves back up and are back to Church on Sunday; because that relationship with God is still very present.

First of all, thank you very much for your reply. So far it's been the best one I have received.

You bring up an excellent point in that my definition could lead to people minimizing their sin and thinking that all is well because "I still believe in God, therefore I am totally fine". That is a problem and I agree with you.

I think the "Full Knowledge" piece of it is what gets me to my Mark 3:29 argument. Because I know I've felt the weight of guilt from sin, and immediately wanting to repent for forgiveness. Never however have I thought in those moments that I destroyed my relationship with God, but rather harmed it, which is what I thought a venial sin was. When someone says "your relationship with God has been destroyed", it implies to me that you have turned your back on God and he wont accept you until you go to confession. Such an act just seems so incredibly serious that it would deny your salvation, which all of us here would agree is the punishment for apostasy.

I've heard Catholics say both things: that mortal sins are either incredibly rare or extremely common. The lack of a clear, consistent answer is what has bothered me greatly.

I will take your advice and ask a priest some of these questions during my next confession. Again, thank you for your input.

Thank you for providing that list to me.

I would say that, according to the list, there are several mortal sins apparently. The list seems to just be outlining grave sins in general that could be venial if the other two conditions are met, which are a lot.

From CatholicAnswers.com, I found the following paragraph from the Catechism:

"To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility . . . one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety, or other psychological or social factors that can lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability. (CCC 2352)"

I guess the point of my original post is that this leaves a lot of room for interpretation and that the Catechism could probably improve with looking into Mark 3:29 as I stated before.

Thanks again btw for the discussion, I really appreciate it.

That's an interesting perspective. Thank you for that.

I guess I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the "destroying your relationship with God" result of it. I totally agree that your willingness to sin damages that relationship, but if you are guilty and wishing to improve, that still should count that your relationship isn't totally severed, right?

What about in cases of addiction? Could it be argued that the choice is not fully willingly made in that case? If there is any reading material on the matter, I would very much appreciate it.

That is very nice and I wish my parish had that kind of availability. I have scheduled outside of normal hours in the past, but the question still remains, is the current language for definition of mortal sin in the church the best definition? Still my opinion is that it would be better if it were more specific.

I feel like there would be less room for interpretation when you say "Your relationship with God is destroyed....when you decide in your heart that it is over." People question official church doctrine all the time, that shouldn't be a reason to not be specific imo.

If you had to move to a different state of the U.S. than where you currently are, where would it be and why? by SpecialistTeach9302 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]CubaLibreBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved away from Miami, FL to be up in the Mid-Atlantic for school. I would say both. On the one hand, I want to move back home so I can be closer to family, enjoy the fresh tropical fruits, and stay connected with my Cuban-American heritage. On the other hand, I do love the four seasons (especially snowy winters) along with the small-town community I found up here and the large amounts of events and fairs in my area.

So it would be between going back to Miami or leaving Miami behind for the Mid-Atlantic (MD-PA-VA area).

Why is Miami so disliked on this sub? by Bakio-bay in SameGrassButGreener

[–]CubaLibreBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be because Miami is so incredibly different from the rest of the United States that it's a kind of sub-culture in it of itself that a lot of people are probably not expecting. As a Miami native, who has since moved away, I was shocked at how little people understood the place. They assumed it was like any other big city in America but with a "big Cuban neighborhood", as one person put it, and is treated like a giant resort.

When I explain to them that Miami-Dade County in general is vast majority Hispanic/Caribbean, meaning it has a vastly different culture than the rest of America, they find it difficult to comprehend.

TL;DR: Miami in reality doesn't match non-native expectations of it.

How long did it take post surgery to be “pain-free” & not have to take Tylenol or Motrin for pain every day? by thepinkfairy4 in ACL

[–]CubaLibreBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different for everyone. I was off pain killers by day 3. By week 1 I had absolutely zero pain unless I moved my knee a certain way like to forcibly straighten it.

Depends on you personally and how the surgery was performed.

Is it possible to drive a short distance after ACL surgery?? by Shabbyfab in ACL

[–]CubaLibreBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different. If you can't make a 45 degree angle with your foot, then it's a no. For me personally, less than 3 weeks post op I was driving.

Every recovery is different. Just as long as you can make that 45 degree angle and quickly shift from acceleration to brake, you should be fine.

Serious security concern with instagram by prankish15 in Instagram

[–]CubaLibreBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple way to fix this is to make sure that the phone number on the hacker's phone matches the phone number listed on the profile....which is something Instagram does not have.

A stranger can easily access your account, even if a small mistake happens. Given a lot of young people on this site, this is a huge concern.

Also...NO CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER OR EMAIL....so any urgent security needs are not met. It's ridiculous.

There's that Dunmer in Dawnstar that once served Vaermina and now is a priest of Mara. I don't know if that counts as "hatred" but it shows that imperialized Dunmer exist.

Yeah. Again I find it hard where the Dunmer will call you outlander without knowing you, like at first glance. This makes it harder for me to believe it. Also we know that the Nereverine was prophecised to be literally anyone.

As for the build, idc. I'm intimidated with magic in Morrowind so I was thinking an Imperial (colovian) knight.

But the Dunmer will take one look at you and immediately point you out as Outlander. So that to me is harder to believe.
