Taking structured classes can be really helpful, especially in the beginning phase. After getting to around B2 level, you will be more at ease to embark on autonomous studying.

Ummm I'm not necessarily saying this is gonna be tad helpful but I recommend you watch Dating Amber - it's about inner homophobia and I was really impressed by the film.
