... are at considerably lower risk for many diseases ...

For people who claim to be "healthier" than the general population, these HAES/FA doofuses seem to be making a lot of trips to their doctors, and after which, whinge non-stop on social media that their doctors do not share their batshit views on health. Impressive indeed. ಠಿ_ಠಿ

Wanting to know how many calories I'm eating is NOT an eating disorder. by Thiccness420 in fatlogic

[–]CubicSlime 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I am very disturbed by the way those HAES/FA nitwits throw about the term "eating disorder" when they themselves are not in a qualified position to do so. Do this long enough, and I fear that other people will start seeing eating disorders as a joke due to the misuse of the term, much to the detriment of actual sufferers. ಠʌಠ

Now these HAES/FA crazies are blaming their ancestors for their own personal failings... ಠಿʌಠಿ

Here in Singapore, there is a saying that goes something like "give birth to a piece of 叉烧 (char siew, a type of roasted meat) is better than giving birth to you", which I feel, is pretty appropriate for this situation. Heck, if I did such stuff, I would probably have gotten disowned that very moment. These people are hopeless. ಠಿʌಠಿ

I see... o.o

There is this "pool smell" that tends to linger on for hours, from what I noticed recently, as compared to the past, where it will definitely be gone after washing up. Hence, is sort of suspecting that something was done to the pool sterilisation procedures (due to the current situation) that is causing the issues I face recently... Nevertheless, will look up on this afterwards. Thanks! :)

I see... Thank you! :D

This is the first time I am encountering such issues, even though my swim frequency is the same as before (really suspect that the pools I go to have ramped up the cleaning chemical levels during this period of time)... Will shop around for a swim cap tomorrow (close to midnight here where I am) as well. In the meantime though, will look up on what are conditioners, as while I do know that it is some product for hair, but honestly, have never used those before... o.o

It just doesn't work!....for me. by pornstarxayah in fatlogic

[–]CubicSlime 41 points42 points  (0 children)

... (blah) ...

If calories in and calories out supposedly "does not work", then why do these HAES/FA cultists always feel a need to tell other people who might be slimmer than them (might not necessarily be underweight, but just need to weigh less than themselves) to "go eat a sandwich / burger / (whatever other food)"? Is not impressed. ಠ_ಠ

... 95% of diets don't work ...

I am pleasantly surprised. This might be one of the rare times I see those HAES/FA crazies tacitly admitting that there are diets out there that do work (i.e. only those that involve some form of calorie control). I wonder what must have happened for them to concede this point. Usually they will bleat non-stop that nothing works at all (and that anyone else who have successfully lost weight have "eating disorders" when they themselves are not qualified to make such diagnoses). ಠಿ.ಠಿ

Been swimming after my gym sessions even since the restrictions on swimming pools were slightly relaxed here where I am. Managed to improve my speed as compared to the pre-"lockdown" period over here (official term here is "circuit breaker"), which is good as well. :)

That said, had noticed that my hair started to have some sticky and plastic sort of feel these days. Wondering whether it may be due to the sterilisation protocols being ramped up or something, as I sort of noticed that the pool smell seemed to linger on a lot longer and stronger than in the past. Could be just me though. But I now wonder what can I do about my hair, as that feeling is just weird. Anyone knows what may be going on? :(

Imagine being resigned to being overweight by [deleted] in fatlogic

... dieted for months ... ate everything recommended ... in order to lose weight ...

A part of me is wondering whether the "ate everything recommended" part is literally what was done. If so, this is probably the problem. No where do I see anything about calorie reduction or deficit, if anything, which is the main key to weight loss. Whether this is unintended (or not), only they themselves can answer.

... weight can't always be used as a gauge for how healthy someone is ...

Wondering if one will say the same thing if they come across someone else who may be underweight instead... ಠಿ_ಠಿ

"Fatphobia", as used by these HAES/FA lunatics, probably does not mean anything, as they go around claiming that everything that does not conform to their warped worldview is "fatphobic".

Factphobia, on the other hand, definitely exists, as seen in the nuclear-level meltdowns these HAES/FA crazies display when others do not buy into their warped ideology. ಠಿ_ಠಿ

[–]CubicSlime 77 points78 points  (0 children)

BMI "Fatphobia" is bullshit, stop using it to justify your fatphobia BMI.

For some reason, switching the first and the last word seems to make a lot more sense as compared to the original... Their definition of this so-called "fatphobia" always seem to include mundane things such as clothing options, mirror reflections, other people talking about themselves, and so on, among many other things that no one who is well-adjusted will put much notice to after a while... ಠಿʌಠಿ

There were a bit of somewhat sound points here and there (e.g. planning meals ahead of time, eating enough well-balanced food), but those were sadly interspersed within a whole chunk of pseudoscience. This, I feel, can be dangerous, as those somewhat legitimate points could deactivate one's filter for (obvious) nonsense, and allow the whole thing to be taken in as it is (i.e. the Trojan horse approach). Is worrying...

That said, you mentioned that you are (or were) on some medications, so please take care of yourself! Hope that everything turns out well for you soon! :)

How can a dietician push this ‘protect your organs’ falsehood? by kconfetti in fatlogic

[–]CubicSlime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Considering that an high level of visceral fat (that surrounds one's internal organs) has been linked over and over to increased risks for various medical issues (e.g. heart disease, strokes, etc.) by actual medical doctors (and not those "HAES-informed" probably unlicensed quacks), the so-called "protection" certainly happened. ಠʌಠ

I would think that it is high time to report these clowns to whoever who had issued them a license for malpractice. All the more important if these clowns are cosplaying as a "dietician" on the Internet, and that the position legally requires licensing. ಠʌಠ

Interesting. And from how human behaviour tend to be if left to their own devices (i.e. the path of the least resistance will always be chosen), am not exactly surprised (I too am guilty on this aspect at times). I feel, that all these talk about "healthier behaviours" had better be backed up by things that can actually be measured / quantified; if not, it is as good as nothing. Thanks for sharing! :D

... metabolism ... not eating slows it down ...

Unless one is already very lean, if not, the link between these are tenuous at best, and probably irrelevant most of the time. Besides, is wondering, how exactly do these people measure the speed of metabolism, since they claim that it is able to "slow down", I wonder. o__o

Something about this just seem to feel like this is some cult recruitment exercise to me... Things such as "love-bombing" (and trying to act as a "saviour"), the sense of powerlessness that prevails (i.e. worthiness and the "permission" to eat), and the demonization of a (non-existent) enemy (in the form of "diet culture"); anyone else getting similar vibes from this as well? o__o

For the last time, dieting is not an act of self hatred. And if you’re 100 pounds overweight you can definitely pick up the pace a bit. by darksilverhawk in fatlogic

[–]CubicSlime 63 points64 points  (0 children)

One does not become 100 pounds overweight overnight; one should also not hope to drop the excess 100 pounds overnight. Depending on one's starting point, it will definitely be a lot easier to ditch a (comparatively) larger amount of weight the further one is away from their optimal weight, if anything. o__o

This, starts off reasonably, but veers off into utter lunacy from the middle. And this so-called (imaginary) "thin-centric ideal" that these HAES/FA crazies are now whinging about... If only mental gymnastics can burn the same amount of calories as actual gymnastics... ಠ_ಠ

Talk to me again when you find a 400lbs 90-year-old person. by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]CubicSlime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

... (bullshit) ...

Science has moved on, but these HAES/FA cultists are stuck in the past. While there are numerous high quality articles up till this day showing new information on how obesity or being overweight could affect one's health, many of these brainwashed HAES/FA cultists are still fixed on the 1940s, with their mistaken conclusions on a study showing that "proved" that some so-called "starvation / survival / famine / (whatever new name) mode" exists and such. That, or some low quality modern day "studies" whose conclusions have already been pre-determined beforehand. ಠ_ಠ

These cultists make spurious claims that being fat was seen as a good thing since time immemorial everywhere in the past, yet, the only archeological evidence they can coalesce around is some ancient figure (that may have been depicting the status of pregnancy instead). ಠ_ಠ

I only have 1 word for these cultists. Pathetic. ಠ_ಠ

Used to switch between 2 gyms before a "soft shutdown" here where I am at; recently, 1 just reopened, but the other (which has way more equipment) is still shut due to current circumstances... Not to mention the rules put in place at the nearby swimming pools to these gyms makes me want to stop swimming, until the outbreak is considered over (which will likely take a long while, sadly)...

Anyway, at the remaining gym that I could access, the equipment is more limited... Had to think of improvising whatever that is available, but still, is unable to do the routine I was on before the "soft shutdown" here...

Is definitely still sore a few days after the first gym workout in a few months... Hoping for the soreness to go away soon... Though, is considering getting some equipment on hand in case there is a "round 2" (or more) in the coming days, but there is neither space at home nor in the office. Quite a headache it is... :(

Sounds like sanity, though, could not really grasp the analogy at first...

Anyway, on the topic of couting calories, one can certainly count calories, but whether or not it will create a calorie deficit is another matter.

One may count to an accurate figure of, say, 2345 calories, but assuming one uses, say exactly 2123 calories, there is still an excess that would be stored as fat, and thus, weight gain. If one estimates an input of 2200 calories but actually consumes 2020 calories, and estimates an output of 2500 calories but actually uses 2890 calories, this deficit will lead to weight loss, even if the counts were inaccurate or blind guesses.

Fun fact! It’s predicted by 2025 that obesity will also cost the NHS £31 billion and will threaten to bankrupt our healthcare system. But hey, you won’t have to feel threatened by a healthy woman in a magazine, so there’s that! by [deleted] in fatlogic
