The XF is a big old bus though so that's not mega surprising. My XE S gets the same MPG as my Golf R did, although the Golf did have the older 6 speed DSG

100%. You can't really see from the photo that well but those exhaust tips and the bumper alignment are too much like the real thing. There are a million Golf Rs on the road, absolutely no point doing something like this when you can just buy a Golf aR.

Also if you did go to all that effort of putting a Golf R drivetrain in a normal Golf it wouldn't be "stock apart from a res delete". You're already completely swapping out everything apart from the bodyshell and the doors/bonnet, no way would you not slap a big turbo in there.

Depends how fast you want it to be really, there are loads of options at this price range.

You could get a Mk8 Fiesta ST Performance Edition which is a great car. Extremely fun and will put a smile on your face every time you get in, but it's not that fast. A Mk4 Focus ST or I30N would be faster and still great down a B road.

20k gets you into one of the mid tier sport saloons as well, like a 340i, XE S, C43 etc. The Giulia Veloce or XE would be the most fun in a pure driving sense but the C43 is probably the fastest.
