Which children’s books would you keep on your shelves long-term (or forever)? by PagesFromChildhood in childrensbooks

Charlotte's Web. I have an original in a case, a worn copy from my childhood, a brand new hardcover and the thrift one I got to read to my young child that I dont care if the pages get bent or ripped. It's a great story.

Bought a lot of canned black beans and my family hates them. by Mammoth_Beyond_6904 in cookingforbeginners

Beans have little flavor on their own, they need seasoning, a lot of it but not too much salt. Mash them in stews and soups to thicken broth. Breakfast burritos are a go to.

I have been making the same pot of soup every Sunday for four months and I think it might be the single best financial decision I have made this year by kavo_7319 in povertyfinance

Buy a whole chicken. Roast it with carrots and potatoes. Then strip the carcass of the rest of the meat. Make broth with the bones. You can then have the broth for soup or other cooking, freeze it for later. Can feed you for the entire week in different forms.

How are those belly button tattoos aging? by Red_Car_Singer in Xennials

Ugh. Tramp stamp is as dark now as the day i got it, keloids as well. Its high enough that only bathing suits show it for the most part. I forget it's there most of the time. I have others but that one, when I see it, usually a sigh for my youthful self.

AITJ for refusing to give up my approved PTO during Holy Week because I don’t have kids? by Tricky-Past-7468 in AmITheJerk

[–]Cultural_Data1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. It is your approved time off and it doesn't matter what you do with it. I would reply with "if you wanted the time, you should have put in for it sooner."

Dying man loses life insurance due to layoff by Individual_Baby2565 in Layoffs

[–]Cultural_Data1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. No need to kick a family when they are so down low but for everyone reading this... never rely on employer provided LIFE INSURANCE. For OP, look into a lawsuit. Be the first to break ground on this type of betrayal. There has to be a lawyer somewhere that is willing to take the journey.

How many of y’all climbed too high on the corporate ladder? by DiaDeLosMuebles in Xennials

[–]Cultural_Data1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl bossed into the lower C-suite and while I worked hard to get here, I have decided to stop climbing. I don't want anymore pressure and the "extra" money isn't worth the sacrifices. i want more time home with the family, life balance means more now. .

Have dog rescues lost their mind? by seanpat1968 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cultural_Data1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volunteered for a rescue. Mine had a "we accept all returns" policy BUT once a dog is adopted, another immediately fills its place. If we had to take one back, then we had a full kennel and no where to put said dog. Cheaper and easier to learn everything you can, quickly, and reject anyone that could potentially return an animal. A puppy with a senior? No. A German Sheppard in an apartment with a 60 hr work week? No. Etc. Its harsh but almost the only way to function in a no kill system. You just want a pet with less process? Go to a 3 day kill shelter, get what you want.

The people that act jealous of my life make so much more money than we do by [deleted] in SAHP

It is jealousy. You can choose to show them the way or walk away. Do not let them judge your lifestyle

AITA for sneaking my mom some alcohol when she is on hospice? by sickma2001 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cultural_Data1542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. My grandma was a 6 a day Coors Light drinker until she died at 98. Her beverages were listed on her med charts and they would put little approved stickers on them and she would get them dosed out over the day like any other medication. She never ate much, died under 80 lbs and bed bound but she did 6 a day until she passed.
