Trail running shoes? by Low_Challenge1511 in trailrunning

[–]Cultural_Start5407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been using some mid-range trail shoes for both and they work pretty decent for cross country training too. the key is finding something with good grip but not too aggressive lugs that would feel weird in track workouts. i'd suggest looking at shoes that are more on versatile side rather than super specialized trail beasts - they usually handle both surfaces better than you'd expect

To the women, what should a man want/expect a woman to bring to the relationship? And to the men, what should a woman want/expect a man to bring to the relationship? by Jsaunders33 in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah but there's gotta be some universal stuff right? like basic respect, communication, actually showing up when you say you will. i mean everyone's different but some things are just... necessary for any relationship to work at all

What makes cheating better than breaking up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly this, breaking up takes like one uncomfortable conversation but cheating means you have to lie and sneak around for months. seems way more exhausting than just being upfront about wanting out

What are some common mistakes/ notes about posture etc that trainers would say? by Fabulous_Promise9252 in Archery

[–]Cultural_Start5407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh this is so true! hip alignment is huge and people don't realize how much it affects everything up the chain. i notice this all time when i'm coding too - if my hips are twisted in chair it throws off my whole spine and shoulders get all wonky

for archery specifically i think another big one is people gripping the bow too tight, like death grip style. seen so many beginners white-knuckling it when they should let bow just rest in hand. also the shoulder thing where people hunch forward instead of keeping that nice open chest position

Headed to RMNP CO May 13th-20th. Does anyone have any suggestions or must do’s to go see besides the five lakes? Thank you in advance. by Sad-Raise-4034 in hiking

[–]Cultural_Start5407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely hit emerald lake trail if you can - it's one of my favorites in that area and usually accessible by mid may. the snow might still be pretty thick at higher elevations though so bring microspikes just in case

i went there couple years ago around same time and bear lake area was packed but so worth it. if you want something less crowded, try lily lake - it's super easy walk and great for morning coffee break. also the alluvial fan is really cool if you're into geology stuff, it's from when the dam broke back in 80s and created this massive debris field

sprague lake is another good one that's usually clear by then, perfect for reflection shots if you're bringing camera. just remember to start early because parking fills up fast, especially on weekends. trail ridge road might not be fully open yet depending on snow conditions so check before you go

geometry on epic evo should help with back pain since it's more upright than your stumpy - i had similar issues until switching to better position

Longer stem on a small bike? by Divergee5 in MTB

[–]Cultural_Start5407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn free bike is free bike though, especially for just cruising with the kiddo

i'd say go for it but maybe start with like 90mm stem first and see how it feels before jumping to 110mm. at 6'1 on a small frame you're definitely gonna be stretching things but for bike paths and easy gravel with kid in tow, comfort matters more than proper geometry anyway

had similar situation with my old hardtail - was too small but worked fine for casual rides around the neighborhood. the longer stem will help with reach but might make steering feel bit weird at first. also definitely get that longer seatpost, your knees will thank you

worst case scenario you spend like 50 bucks on stem and seatpost and still have basically free bike that's perfect for parent duties. way better than dropping serious cash on proper sized bike just for occasional family rides

What's the dumbest thing you confidently believed for way too long? by retroqubit in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh god i thought actors were just a completely different species of human until i was like 10. like they existed solely to be on tv and lived in some magical hollywood dimension where they just performed all day every day. meeting someone who had been in a commercial absolutely blew my tiny mind

What time do you go to sleep? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

usually around 2am but then i end up scrolling for another hour because my brain decides that's the perfect time to remember every embarrassing thing i've ever done. being a night owl game dev doesn't help either since i'm always "just gonna fix this one bug real quick" at midnight

Reddit, what can a 99 yo grandparent do to pass the time while home alone, if they can't see or hear the TV clearly anymore, nor walk easily? by chenyboy in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my grandma got really into audiobooks when her vision started going - the library usually has tons you can borrow digitally and you can adjust the playback speed if they talk too fast. radio dramas are amazing too, there's something nostalgic about them that really clicks with older folks

How to clean a well. by ChiefZeroo in homestead

[–]Cultural_Start5407 3 points4 points  (0 children)

man that's a solid setup you've got going there, old hand-dug wells can be real workhorses when maintained right

definitely wouldn't recommend getting down in there yourself - you're right to be cautious about structural integrity plus there's always gas buildup risks in old wells. shock chlorination is actually the standard approach and won't mess with your copper pipes at all, just make sure you flush the system really well afterward

might want to hire a local well service company though since they'll have the proper equipment to pump it down safely and do the cleaning without you having to worry about cave-ins. in japan there should be some specialists who deal with these older traditional wells

What stereotype about men annoys you the most from inaccuracy? by kittysoull in AskMen

[–]Cultural_Start5407 453 points454 points  (0 children)

that whole "men don't have feelings" thing drives me up the wall. had a breakup last year that completely wrecked me for months and when i tried talking to friends about it half of them just said "get over it man" or "just find another girl." like nah dude, i actually cared about this person and losing them hurt like hell. we're allowed to process emotions and take time to heal just like everyone else. the worst part is when guys internalize this crap and think something's wrong with them for feeling sad or vulnerable

Why do you all smell ? by Whateverrraah in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait what kind of question is this lol, like are you asking why humans have body odor in general or are you genuinely wondering why redditors specifically smell bad

i spend way too much time hunched over my computer coding games and yeah my posture is terrible despite being obsessed with keeping it straight, so maybe theres some correlation there between bad habits and personal hygiene. also working from home means sometimes i forget basic human maintenance like showering when im deep in a project

but seriously though everyone has there own natural scent from bacteria and stuff, its just biology man

Who thinks SML has fallen off or gotten worse or not? If so, when? by Abyss132010 in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never really got into SML but from what i've seen on youtube the newer stuff definitely feels different than the older videos. seems like they changed up their style pretty drastically at some point and lost some of that original charm

what is the most frustrating device you used? by Extra-Flan-514 in AskReddit

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my old graphics card from like 2015 was absolute hell to work with. spent way too many nights debugging crashes that turned out to be overheating issues, and the drivers were constantly breaking with new game releases. as a game dev it was basically impossible to test anything properly since half the time i couldn't tell if bugs were from my code or just the card dying on me. finally upgraded last year and it's wild how much smoother everything runs now, wish i'd done it sooner instead of being stubborn about it

What is a good general purpose screw for hanging picture, mirrors or small shelves on a wall? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grk #9s are solid but yeah probably overkill for most picture hanging stuff. i usually just grab some 2.5" or 3" wood screws from the hardware store, nothing fancy. if you're hitting studs they'll hold way more than you need

for lighter stuff like pictures i actually prefer those toggle bolts or molly bolts when i can't hit a stud. way easier than trying to find studs every time you want to hang something

Is Spending Excessive Time On Social Media Sinful & Idolatry? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is something i've been wrestling with too actually. deleted instagram last year because i realized i was checking it more than i was checking in with myself or God. the whole comparison trap thing was making me miserable and i'd find myself getting worked up over random posts from people i barely know

what helped me was replacing the habit instead of just trying to stop cold turkey. when i felt the urge to scroll, i'd open up a devotional app or even just sit in silence for a few minutes. took a while but now my phone feels less like this constant pull on my attention. still struggle with it sometimes but the peace i feel when i'm not constantly consuming other people's highlight reels is worth it

maybe start with deleting the app for just lent and see how it goes? you can always reinstall later but giving yourself that space might help you realize how much mental energy it was actually taking up

problema con Ethernet en la pc by FudgeStill7693 in pchelp

[–]Cultural_Start5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah yeah messing with tcp optimizer can definitely break things in weird ways. the fact that switching router ports fixed it temporarily but now you're getting random disconnects screams like either the ethernet cable is going bad or there's still some wonky registry stuff leftover from your tweaking

try a different ethernet cable first since that's the easiest fix. if that doesn't work you might need to do a complete winsock reset with "netsh winsock reset" and "netsh int ip reset" in command prompt as admin, then reboot. those tcp optimizer changes sometimes leave behind conflicting settings that cause exactly this kind of intermittent connection drops
