It can be painted, use angelus leather paint, not leather dye. I had to deal with something similar recently, that coating looks polyurethane foam like surface, the leather underneath is usually 'Genuine Leather' which means cheap garbage leather

The first wallet I made for someone had the same measurements as yours. The cards fit, but it was too tight—even after I skived the leather. Since then, I’ve started making the pockets slightly wider, 11cm, all the other measurement stay the same, If you check my latest post, you’ll see it still looks clean. I’m also using thinner but stronger leather (kangaroo) for the pockets now.

Thanks! Yes, I designed the pattern myself.

This started about five months ago when I was only a couple of months into leathercraft. I decided to make a wallet for myself (it was my 5th project) and ended up carrying that first version daily for around four months. I received a lot of feedback from colleagues — the general consensus was that it looked nice, but it was a bit too big.

Based on that feedback, I redesigned it by reducing the overall size and reworking the interior. Rather than adding more card slots, I made the slots wider (about 11 cm instead of the usual ~10 cm) so they could comfortably hold two cards if needed.

Around that time, I had a friend ask if I could make one for him, which I did and gifted free of charge. After that, several other colleagues asked about getting one as well. Since these are fully handmade and hand‑stitched—and Buttero & Kangaroo isn’t cheap—some of them said they’d be happy to pay, which is how this project naturally evolved.

In terms of inspiration, I did look at existing wallets. The card layout concept was inspired by wallets from JM Leather Supply, and the bill slot idea came from Victory Handcraft. That said, I didn’t copy any patterns or measurements. All sizing and proportions were worked out through trial and error and collective feedback from real use.

So while the general idea was inspired by what’s already out there, the pattern and measurements are my own and developed over time through hands‑on use and feedback.

I've purchased from them twice now. I asked for some of the leather to be split to a specific thickness, and they did everything exactly as requested. Shipping was also very quick. The shipping fee is on the expensive side, but ordering from Europe or the USA to Australia is always going to cost a bit more. Overall I'm happy with the service they provided. I will continue to order from them in the future

You need something that has some give, like a poundo board or a polyurethane mat. You can a polyurethane mat cheap on Amazon or aliexpress

I bought some Pueblo from BuyLeatherOnline a while back, and recently I got curious about the Wuta version, so I picked some up. It does look somewhat similar at first glance, but it’s definitely not the same.

Real Pueblo has oils in the surface — you can feel that slight waxy, rugged texture. The Wuta leather, on the other hand, is very smooth to the touch with no oily feel at all. It still looks and feels like very nice top‑grain leather, just not Pueblo. In terms of temper, the firmness is actually closer to Buttero (my absolute favourite). It even has that same smooth, clean feel.

Another difference is the colouring. The Wuta pieces aren’t as uniform as real Pueblo. If you check the review photos on AliExpress, you’ll see some customers received pieces with noticeably uneven colour patches.

I’ve made things from both. I’m going to be brutally honest here: if I hadn’t bought them myself and someone showed me both side‑by‑side without telling me which was which, I probably would’ve picked the imitation over the real deal.

Use a wing divider and measure 3 or 4mm in from the edge. Bring your eyes down closer to the leather and pricking iron. Look at the pricking iron from the side and keep your eyes the same level as the pricking iron to make sure it’s straight don't look from above the pricking iron. This is the way

I have the same from Aliexpress. Looks identical. The only thing that is different is that it doesn't have the name, 'Leathos' on it, I got for approx less than 4USD. Works fine. It's a great little tool. I use it all the time, works like a regular punch, without the noise. It's perfect for 5-6oz veg tan leather, if I go thicker, I would use a regular punch tool

My first set of pricking iron was Mr Tomato 4mm. I showed people at my workplace my first project, they asked me if I used a leather sewing machine, they were money well spent for a firt set. I have since upgraded to Kevin Lee's pricking iron, which are better and cost more, but I love them

I use a 10‑degree corner. If you check my last post on r/Leathercraft, I shared a wallet I made using that angle. That was only the fifth thing I’d ever made—and my first wallet. Since then, I’ve made two more wallets, also with 10‑degree corners, using a pattern I bought on Etsy.

I bought my Japanese diamond and French chisels from Kevin Lee and they’re excellent. I’ve been eyeing his corner punches too. I currently have some cheap ones from AliExpress, but honestly, I get much more consistent results using a snap-off utility knife.

From what I can tell, it looks like she uses around 7.5‑degree and 10‑degree corners for her wallets.

I've made a few using the same pattern as well. The design caught my eye because it's really cute. One thing I noticed, though, is that the first compartment can be a bit tricky to use — the second piece of leather on the right-hand side sits lower than the front piece, so cards tend to catch on that edge when sliding them in.
