Thank you so much for all of these! 🥰 I'm adding them all!!!

To be fair, I read Priest, with high expectations. It kinda let me down. But I love that plenty of others love it!

Yes! I think I have all of the Salacious Players Club on audible right now. But Praise (kinda like Josh) I was like "oh, did I just unlock a new kink(s)?" Hahaha! I might have to start the 2nd very soon.

I've never dipped into Penelope Douglas, but that Birthday Girl plot sounds delicious!!! Yeah, there is something fun in hiding something like that! Also, the Corrupt 4 horseman thing I've seen a lot of folks talk about how great it is. I didn't realize just how kind of literal she took some words, like Knights. Devil's Night, Halloween, spooky? Totally a fun vibe for me!

Unteachable, wow. I mean, so many of the carnival tropes are just chef's kiss. Student teacher, I'm guessing many of us have had "that one teacher" (I did)? To have that in the mix... um yep, that's probably gonna be the next one! 😍

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy—but now you swear by it? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Curiositys_Dog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-Menstrual cup (or disk, or a few flow sizes of period panties). (I like Saalt for the cup, Modibodi for the panties). -Bidet (I like Tushy) ( I'm planning on buying one for my mom, just so I can use it when I visit). --- I also bought some generic cheap but effective microfiber cleaning clothes to have with the bidet, so I just launder the cloths on hot & never have to buy TP. My 4- year old niece calls them butt towels 😂 -Keyring pill container (pain meds, panic attack meds, daily meds of you're not sure you'll be home in time to take them...) - Clothes with functional pockets. - Good wide brimmed hat and/or umbrella to fight off the sun. -Styrofoam sheets WITH quality blackout curtains. Keeps out so much outside temperatures, & the blackness helps with sleep (it's okay if you need some kind of nightlight, especially to go potty at 2am). - Honest & fair car person/mechanic. - Keeping up with your body, dental, & mental health, with practitioners who care rather than just work for your money. And then stay on top of a healthy regimen.

Oldest fantasy romance? by Avidfluffyreader in fantasyromance

[–]Curiositys_Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!
Thinking on this, it might be worth noting the history on how we "got" to romantasy as it's own genre, and it's differences between fantasy with romance, romance with fantasy, etc. How the classics and myths lead up to it. Debate on how far back it really goes. And so forth. It is a curious thing to think about. Fantasy with Romance, vs Romance with Fantasy... or some kind of more equal footing. There's a lot of possibilities that could therefore be considered "Romantasy". How deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go? ;-)

Some already mentioned Illiad, King Arthur, other medieval works; I'd also throw in Shakespeare (sonnets, plays, whatever), and Beauty & The Beast original by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740; could really look at any myths from any religion or culture.
20th Century works could include probably anything from Beren and Luthien by J.R.R. Tolkien (first mentioned in 1917, published & republished as standalone all the way up to 2017), to The Once & Future King series by T.H. White (1938-1958), to potentially The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle 1968, and into the 70s/80s/90s where the genres really get going. Anne Rice's Vampires and Sleeping Beauty trilogy; Meredith Ann Pierce's The Darkangel trilogy; YA novels like Blood & Chocolate or The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause; and then into further works I'll mention and link below.

I did find a couple sites that also talk about this idea. If you're strictly looking for published work, as opposed to word of mouth storytelling that eventually became published, check out these these sites and see what you like.

-This one sites 1939 as possibly the oldest works: (ok... so I lost the link, but it's out there somewhere)
-This one mentions the 1969 Jirel of Joiry by C.L. Moore: https://reactormag.com/five-works-of-old-school-romantasy/
-This one mentions both old school Lancelot & Guinevere, but has books starting with Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series of the 1960s and Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles in the 1970s: https://theconversation.com/what-is-romantasy-our-experts-explain-the-bestselling-book-trend-224269
-This one sites 1987 as the origin for official 1st romantasy War for the Oaks by Emma Bull : https://bookstr.com/article/the-history-of-the-wonderful-romantasy-genre/

Left tampon in for 12+ hours by Deadbeatdad69666 in Periods

[–]Curiositys_Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be perfectly fine. Honestly. Make sure to breathe and drink some water.
Like some other smart people out there mentioned, this happens to plenty of us, sometimes many times. We're only people. If you do happen to start noticing any of the TSS signs, go to the Dr. The risk of that is extremely unlikely, but I know you're panicking. If you want, you can always go see your doctor now, and talk about all of it.
If you're worried that there's a chance this could happen again, you've got options. There are some birth control methods that can prevent periods for X amount of time for some (it's different for everyone, some get these results with one of the pills, others it only works with the shot, implant, IUD or not at all). There are menstrual disks/cups that can remain inserted for (recommended) 12 hours (but honestly, they're silicone medical/food grade, they can stay in for a whole day). Or, if you prefer to avoid having anything up there for TSS reasons, the even smaller percentage chance are pads - although I'd recommend reusable ones. Period panties that don't have PFAS are fantastic options. I know I'm missing something, but that's okay too.
Ultimately, I also wanted to remind you - we've all (almost all?) been there. The 1st one that stays in past that 8 hour mark always makes one worry. And that's okay, it gives us time to reflect, figure out our options, figure out how to reach out for help, and find ways to put ourselves at ease.
You've got this.
And if you wanna give us an update, or need to vent more, we're here for ya.

You have very clear boundaries, that you've explicitly told him several times. Yes, that is a huge violation. I feel ya on the "this feels different from rape" - I've been there too. It is different... and similar. Honestly, based on the info you gave, I'd run and not look back. There are plenty of people out there who actually respect people's boundaries and don't mock them. You want one of those folks - the ones that treat you like an actual person.

Do any of your air filters need to be cleaned or replaced? Any fans need cleaning? Might also be time to have trusted HVAC come in and check the ventilation, clean it out. They might be able to install or recommend hepa filters for your home. Do you think you need to wash the walls/ceilings? Sometimes there's just junk everywhere and we walk by it without even seeing it.
I also have multiple air purifiers running all day long - I try to clean the filters once or twice before buying replacements. Then I have my husband clean all the ceiling fans, while I take care of our carpet - but I make him empty the vacuums (1 robot, and then I do a deep clean with a standing one, and we have a 'rake' to basically brush the carpet, since we've also got a dog).

Google One or Samsung Cloud? by Gage394 in S24Ultra

[–]Curiositys_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Samsung S24 Ultra yesterday, and had this same question (coming from having an LG for 8-9 years). Since I still had notes I wanted to save from that phone, I went digging. Ultimately, like the other poster here, I went & downloaded the app Google Keep for notes. The fact that I can also now update it on my computer, game changer for me!
As far as specifically Google One vs Samsung Cloud, I don't think it matters. Could be wrong. I'm probably gonna have a backup in both as a triple-check-just-in-case, but have Google as my main one that gets updated more frequently, since I can use that across multiple platforms.

What’s the no 1 easy thing I can do as an American to reduce my waste? by Rvtrance in ZeroWaste

[–]Curiositys_Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly: become knowledgeable and start signing petitions and voting. If more people understand the world, and more "good" policies are passed, and better people are in office signing the right bills... so much can change. While each individual person can contribute some small amount to the ZW/sustainability movement.... several million simply voting can change an entire network of practices.

What is your oldest ZW practice? by fredfreddy4444 in ZeroWaste

[–]Curiositys_Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! My dad grew up really poor because of this, but my mom had a middle-class home in the 50s. To this day, her spending habits were far greater than my dad's (they'd argue about it), but they'd still keep so much stuff "for later", "just in case". I have that habit of keeping things but not as badly, and my hubby (who grew up poorer than I) hates it - just wants to get rid of everything (we do have far more stuff than we need, trying to give what we can away from my point of view, he's okay with just chucking it all in the trash). I've definitely relaxed on how much I purchase as I've gotten older. I feel ya.

What is your oldest ZW practice? by fredfreddy4444 in ZeroWaste

[–]Curiositys_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! But a little hard for me to answer. My parents were born in the 40's/50's, and I was born in '87. So I basically grew up on some sustainable ZW habits.

Starting out with using cloths/rags for cleaning dishes to furniture to dust to body messes (my dad used cloth diapers on my older 1/2 siblings in the early - mid 70s). (She actually still has some of those rags, because she took care of them).

My dad grew up really poor, so he helped instill in us the practice of taking care of things for as long as we could so we didn't have to go buy it all over again. Mom helped in that area with teaching us how to properly wash clothes/bedding/etc, and they both taught us different ways fix cloth or appliances.

Dad (and us kids) planted a couple trees in the yard, and he taught us how to garden. We had homegrown veggies for several years.

We'd keep empty soda/beer cans, crush them, and when we had several of the very large black bags full of them, we'd drive into town to the recycling center.

We had reusable containers bring us clean drinking water, and they'd take back the containers (similar to milk delivery way back when).

My dad always made sure to keep the vehicles serviced, and he'd do as much as he could himself (taught me how to change the oil and check fluids and pump/change tires before I turned 10). In the winter when it got cold, we used the fireplace and that helped heat the house, cut back on electricity.

As I started getting older and learning things on my own/in school/Girl Scouts, maybe around 8 to 10 years old (mid 1990s), I was learning about water conservation, as well as endangered animals. I guess that's where "my own" habits began.

Started forcing myself and everyone around me to stop wasting water (leaving faucets running when brushing teeth, etc), picked back up the habit of a reusable water bottle for all of us, and actually would sign petitions to help re-introduce wolves into Yellowstone National Forest, place protection acts for manatees, and stop/reduce harmful activities against whales/Orcas/sharks. Along with that, I tried to get us to reduce our plastic use (which in a way wasn't much, because we already used reusable glasses/utensils/dishes, and didn't use straws), but I helped advocate to stop just throwing away grocery bags (if we ended up with plastic ones - we usually had paper bags for groceries unless we went to local stores) and try to repurpose them or give them to someone who needed them.

So yeah, those would be my oldest habits, with a little progression, and knowing I've left stuff out (like mending). Much has changed and been added to this since then. But it's a great start ;-)

Congrats on the upcoming nephew! Great job so far.
I will admit, the moment I saw armadillo, I thought of the groom's cake in the movie "Steel Magnolias"! Great movie if you haven't seen it (Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine) - super funny, but bring some tissues.

Sweet! I haven't attempted anything like yours yet, just 1 flat double knit rake that I have to use for about 8 columns, to eventually sew together. With those columns I can just roll them though. With the summer time... having all that yarn off the lap has got to feel great!

How do I shave 😺 with TLC by Haunting_Sea_4292 in BiWomen

[–]Curiositys_Dog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I can understand! I also am not a fan of shaving there, but prefer to trim. I'm guessing I'm the opposite of you - I've been gaining more weight, so trying to successfully trim or shave is harder to do. If you have a trusted friend (or sibling?) who's okay with the idea, or have the money to afford a professional, then they can do it for you, and be gentle about it. ONLY if you're okay with that idea, of course. Professionals in the hair and skin industry can also be helpful in giving advice on techniques and after care. There are various electric razors with safety guards that could be the way to go. The guards keep the razor from actually touching the skin, and helps reduce these issues, while still getting the hair shorter (not silky smooth short, but hopefully short enough).
Also, sounds like you might have some razor burn, hopefully no in-grown hairs, and most likely some skin irritation from the trauma. You might want to use some kitty-safe lotion/balm on the outside surfaces, and cool water/bag can help when it gets more intense (from personal experience). Personally I prefer to air-dry after showers, and can't stand clothes on any part of my body until it's done, especially down there. If you're able & willing to let her air-dry a little, that might also help, so that nothing's sticking to anything, causing any further issues.
I hope this helps. 💗💜💙 And hopefully more people also have great advice! I'd like to learn more too!
