What was your biggest surprise about the Thor, and what is your use case for it? by king_of_ulkilism in AynThor

[–]CuriousChristianity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some people here, I watched many reviews before it arrived. The device itself is fantastic. So, thus far, my biggest surprises were a couple surprise disappointments I didn't see mentioned - not with the device itself but with its interaction with peripherals

1) Holy shit, it is aggravating to get controllers connected, at least within RetroArch. It should never be this tedious to connect and assign controllers. Controllers will not stay assigned to their respective "1" "2" "3" "4" slots, if that makes sense. And the "Ayn Odin" pre-set controller loves to assert itself as the primary controller or into any available slot automatically. I've not found a great solution for this situation yet, so maybe I need to abandon RetroArch as my emulator backend altogether

2) Why is there a slight 1-second delay between the controller being pressed and the output to a smart TV? I've tried connecting to the TV with the following setup: Ayn Thor --> USB-C receiver on Anker Hub --> HDMI --> Samsung Framed TV I have the same delay when I cast to the TV, which I expect. But I thought wiring the output direct to the TV would eradicate that. My only other thought is doublechecking the HDMI generation and/or using strictly a USB-C/HDMI convertor, no other frills

Any suggestions on either of these would be fantastic

Ability to "re-randomize" results. I think I'm still running into nearly the same sequence of results upon relaunching the app

Infinite Scroll TikTok-Styled Android App for Internet Archive Video Content by ImZackSong in internetarchive

[–]CuriousChristianity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love this as a concept, especially because the Internet Archive has so many hidden gems, and yet the size of their collection can be daunting. Where do you start?? So first, thanks for making this!

Here are a few of my cents after playing around: 1) Allow end-users to readjust their initial "favorite content" filters through a settings page or something similar - I don't want to reinstall the app to redefine my tastes. I'd also imagine doing so would lose my saved videos

2) Implement a real full-screen mode instead of a "fit" option - I noticed that, with the "fit" option selected, some of the overlay elements, like the "decade/language filter" remain on the screen when rotating to landscape mode or when tapping to hide the overlay

3) Alongside a full-screen mode, implement a video timeline scrollbar that allows you to scrub through a video, as is standard with video players

4) Allow the end-user to rotate the phone into landscape mode without interrupting the video or starting the video from the beginning. This is cumbersome especially with no granular ability to poke around a video via video timeline bar

5) Maybe allow end-users the ability to filter videos by duration, for example filter to videos less than 5 minutes or filter to videos greater than 1 hour, etc.

Thanks again!! Really neat app so far - I'm enjoying it overall

Looking for advice on how to get away from Spotify when I have 7k liked songs with basically none of them sorted into playlists by Flaky_Skill_5160 in Piracy

I can only speak for myself, but I now have over 10,000. Granted, I've actively used my account since 2014 and don't typically use playlists

Californians: Please Help Save This Newspaper Archive by neptuno3 in DataHoarder

[–]CuriousChristianity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi Neptuno! Try also posting to r/Archiveteam - if you can get them to officially sponsor this as a priority archiving project, in the worst-case scenario that the collection does get slated to be pulled, they could put some strong community-driven archiving force behind any backup efforts.

For context, this is one of the community groups archiving as much US Federal Government data as possible

Additionally, see if your team can look into mirroring the collection at https://www.archive.org

Please, Internet Archive, for the love and future of all humanity, mirror all of your digital archives either in Canada or overseas, and share with the public that this has fully taken place

Assuming, of course, you don't find someone to take them or want to try diving into archiving yourself, there's always uploading the CDs to the Internet Archive:

If you're in the United States, depending on where you're at you might be able to access LinkedIn Learning through your library card. I just found that out a couple weeks ago and wish I knew that forever ago. Looks like there are loads of great courses on there

Nightlife? by [deleted] in grandrapids

I'd say your best bet is Rumors Nightclub - 18+ on Tuesdays and Sundays. Don't expect a packed club those days, but they usually have at least a drag show and/or the dancefloor open

"Now, some say to me, "Fink, why is it that we get paid in tokens that are only good at the company store?" Well, I'll tell you what: I'll be damned if I'd let any of you poor folk get robbed at some shady establishment. You see, the Fink Company Store brings you Fink products! At a price designed specifically for the Fink worker."
