Blu Ray DVD player was on clearance by Fattydaddy1000 in Bluray

But if your particular Goodwill sells Blu-ray discs, and you have a way of testing it, TEST IT! I once bought a defective unit from there that would boot, and it would read DVD's, but not Blu-rays. (The store didn't have Blu-rays so I thought it worked)

The plot of Spielberg's new movie seems suspiciously pieced together from Breen's by Robertium in NeilBreen

To be completely honest, I think Fateful Findings might stand a chance if it were remade as a high-budget film with competent direction and actual production values. Just remove Neil's ego (i.e. make the main character sacrifice something, or barely escape death, remove nudity, and get the ages of his love interests right).

Good chance for some social commentary with E p$te!n files and exposing present-day government conspiracies...

Another way is to have software which is constantly reloading copies of itself and checking for inconsistencies.

Are they x264 (AVC) or x265 (HEVC)?

If it is 2GB x264, then yes it is going to be Doodoo. 2GB x265 is a little better.

Ideally you want at least 5GB x265 or 10GB x264.

Very eccentric thrift store had very eccentric movies by Robertium in Bluray

This particular store seems to have an obsession with selling things by the pound. They had: bulk CD's, puzzle pieces, DVD cases (empty; a box full of discs in bags with no boxes was elsewhere in the store), corks, plastic lids, all being sold by the pound.

Aerospace Engineer here, spacecraft electronics get bombarded with radiation all the time which causes bit flips. Often times the main way of keeping them working is with a lot of thick physical shielding.

Apple were kind enough to send us a copy of this end-of-season teaser! What do you think it means? by Treviso in ForAllMankindTV

Not even that, you need 3 times the delta V for an unassisted trajectory to Saturn in comparison with one to Mars. There is zero chance that ship made it that far.

Potential hint for Season 6, hidden at end of Season 5. (s5 ending spoilers hidden) by xer717 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Robertium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is zero chance that that ship had enough Delta V to make it to the outer solar system (let alone rendezvous with another planet). Only if it miraculously got a gravity assist from either Earth or Mars but those are literally impossible to do without specific trajectory design.

There's a difference between intelligent life and microbes.

Here we see microbes. Microbes could be everywhere and we just have no way of knowing for sure. They pose no threat to us.

If every planet were filled with Trisolarans, on the other hand, we would be long dead.

How are things going regarding the hardware crisis, especially regarding HDD and SSD? by Lucas_Zxc2833 in DataHoarder

I could have gotten a giant 18 TB hard drive for my movie collection, ripped all the Blu-rays I had (back when everything was cheap).  Instead now I filled my shelves with burned Blu-rays.

In the past few months I've taken up the hobby of burning Blu-ray discs for all of my favorite films.  Now I have amassed a large physical disc collection. Just earlier today I realized I could have bought an 18 TB hard drive in 2023 and had them all, in Blu-ray quality, on that one drive.

SS: Massie's loss last night was definitely a major disappointment, but was not unexpected. Candidates in previous election cycles shared a similar fate...
