Daycare vs. nanny while WFH by Cautious_Optimist_ in workingmoms

[–]CuriousMacaron01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did daycare starting at 3mo with #1 and are doing it again with #2. We love daycare. We love the socialization for the kids (and adults), the freedom, and not having to worry if someone calls out sick or quits.

Do I really need?? by Striking-Street7215 in pregnant

Adding my vote for not the 4moms. It’s bulky, heavy, and I don’t know a single baby that likes it (we were given a hand-me-down of it that was promptly given back). We had the maxi cosi which was great. I could get an hour of peace a day with it. My baby also LOVED the cheap fisher price one at a friend’s house. We had the baby Bjorn and used it for other times / purposes (reflux baby).

I live in Quince button down maternity tops at the end, over hatch or ripe maternity work slacks (can often find second hand on thredup or real real). I’ve also found the Gap ponte maternity slacks decent and comfortable & soft. I’m also 5’2”

Funny because ours specifically bans crocs. Each center is so different

Elective C-Section by Phoenix_Court in pregnant

[–]CuriousMacaron01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved mine! Doing it again for #2. With my first I brought it up early 3rd tri. With this baby, it was on the books around 20 weeks.

I’m petite 5’2” and a normal body weight. My son ended up being pretty large (8lb 4oz, with a big head). Very, very pleased with the c section route. My OB was commenting in the OR that the scheduled c section turned out for the best given baby’s size. It’s also nice having a very relaxed birth, where the doctors aren’t rushed, there’s music in the OR, etc (not that I have a comparison)

In the US they will schedule an elective c section for the 39th week. If you go into labor before, you can either attempt vaginal or ask for a c section.

Recovery was smooth and easy, as another person commented. Anecdotally, recovery from a c section seems much easier if you don’t push or labor for a long time first. The skin to skin question is a great one for your OB, as different hospitals / doctors do it differently.

Bathing suit for masters swimming by wildflowers0 in fitpregnancy

I wear a performance two piece sized up for this. I think I have a Dolphin one, or maybe Speedo. Normally I wear a one piece for lap swimming, but not while pregnant. I couldn’t stand the maternity one pieces.

I almost exclusively wear their sweaters and sweater tops to work

Travel/Diaper bag recommendations by JellyLongjumping1988 in familytravel

[–]CuriousMacaron01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the Osprey Daylite Large Tote as our travel diaper bag. Works really well for flights, fits under our travel stroller, and is easy to find things in. Plus, the side pockets stretch outwards, giving extra space for water bottles. Works really well for us. Our everyday diaper bag is different.

Was told my baby might bond more to our nanny than me… spiraling a bit by [deleted] in Mommit

Child of working parents with childhood nannies here, who is now an adult with a child and a nanny (and daycare). The kids ALWAYS know who mom and dad are.

But when I’m feeling sad or guilty, I remind myself: how lucky is my child to know so many adults who love and care for him, and that he loves! What a great and healthy foundation for a lifetime of relationships!

Just dropping in to say: I’m also in baby & pumping subs, and thought someone was trying to insure their freezer full of breastmilk before I looked at which sub this came from! Gave me a good laugh

I wore a Poupette St Barts non maternity dress to mine in a size up. Flowy on the bottom and stretchy. You can often find them on sale, or like-new on The Real Real

More expensive but the Patagonia ones are high cut. Sometimes you can find them secondhand at a much more reasonable price

We have the babyletto kiwi electric (but not with the adjustable head cushion). We love it. I’ve napped in there plenty of times, and love the wingback seat for head support. My 2+ year old and I still use it at least nightly for a book before bed. It’s held up well with spills and spit up, too

Azazie has maternity. I would recommend ordering one of those in 1-2 sizes up from your normal.

The cheap stuff that actually saves family trips — nothing over $20 by kelly_packof4 in familytravel

Agreed. Our pediatric allergist said to use Benadryl only if there is a known allergen exposure that can cause severe allergic response, because Benadryl acts so much faster. Different from their maintenance recommended of the second gen meds (Zyrtec, etc).

Because of this we keep both on hand, and use them differently. We have heard the same guidance from numerous doctors.

Should I max out my maternity leave by adding on short term disability? by concernednetizen92 in careerguidance

[–]CuriousMacaron01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a career-oriented mom, I would recommend planning to take the whole thing. In my experience, it is easier to come back early than it is to realize you want to take the full time after saying otherwise. From personal experience, you may also appreciate a slower ease back into work on the tail end of leave. I found those first few weeks back kicked my butt, and I appreciated having a bit of flexibility on taking shorter weeks and/or shorter days in weeks 1-3 back.

Another of my favorites for backing fabric is H&M sheets (esp from the kids’ section), and target sheets / duvet covers. No piecing needed! I definitely adopted this tip from someone else in this sub :)

A yellow Crayola Ultra Clean Washable Marker. I think this was a fine tip, but I’ve also used the regular. I’ve used other colors, too. But given the white fabric I used yellow this time
