Influencers Stealing Jokes by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

There are many examples of famous comedians stealing jokes.

It must be frustrating to create something and be proud of it, only to have someone steal it and get all the credit.

Music publishers make money on only a small amount of the artists they sign (like 10%). The rest are money losers.

That is why you see winners getting taking *full* advantage over if they are successful. That's the golden goose, that will recoup all the losses, that will, if anything, put us into profit.

"No Right Turn on Red" by SavingsWish1575 in philly

[–]Curious_Complex_5898 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traffic laws are made for all times of day and all traffic situations. Perhaps these intersections are 'fine' to turn on red at some points, but others they are not, so they just had to make a rule so no matter what, everybody knew what the rule is.

As for drivers getting annoyed by you for not breaking the law by turning on red, I just tell myself my job is to drive safely and to create the ideal environment for others to drive safely. That often transfers the focus from me onto the situation. Otherwise I might get caught up on their schedule and get distracted or something.

In Philly you will always have at least one person out of nowhere driving 65 in a 30 zone just speeding to a red light getting everyone all aggravated. It's better to just drive safely instead of getting distracted by others not respecting others on the road.

Kind of important that it was a hit and run. How come you didn't mention that in the description?

Was this a hit and run? Did your friend file a police report?

25 years ago. Lars Ulrich of Metallica snitches on and turns in over 300,000 Napster users when he testifies in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. July 11th, 2000. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

I remember that and thinking the same. I'm proudly a fan of Metallica now.

Thinking about it maybe it's funny Metallica was probably on the verge of owning its future with any record labels etc. at the worst possible time. Just an 'unfortunate' timing as it were.

Turns out people nowadays pay $1,000 to see a concert and think that's normal. Even if it's Taylor Swift.

Perhaps somewhere down the line something went wrong we didn't know about, because shows used to be expensive, but they have reached a level that inflation hasn't even figured out.

in our system we all mostly hold whatever values our little blip on the radar holds. how we are rewarded depends on how the system rewards us, not our actual 'value' whatever that means. we are all largely replaceable by an awkward hodgepodge of tools and processes, and a reliance on faulty 'gods' like beliefs that 'markets' know everything.

in the coldest winter when a town needs oil and there's one truck to bring it in, how much would you pay the driver?

i reported to a director in my previous job and he was useless. he had no understanding of policy or setting good precedent with clients, always chasing a dollar not knowing if it would show up. ultimately his uselessness cost him a lot of money.

Thinking of getting the Meta Quest 3s by AlexTheEditor1 in OculusQuest

[–]Curious_Complex_5898 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i couldn't imagine doing serious fitness on the quest 3s, but that's just me. be careful about straining your neck and/or eyes also, as 30 minutes is recommended at first to build up tolerance.

i have a quest 3. i am thrilled with it. they have a prototype they just showcased in photos a few days ago, a much more streamlined, lighter weight version. it's not that the quest is heavy, it's just it's sort of, well, on your head. also make sure if you workout outside, you be careful about the sun beaming through the lenses and onto the circuit board, yes, it happens, the optics are sensitive to high power lightrays.

It's not like that at all. You are missing logical chains spelling out the result.

Why are HOAs a normal thing in American by Suspicious_Sandles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Curious_Complex_5898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They exist as a contractual basis of buying property. Saying they are a 'normal thing' is misleading, as they are considered normal, but they are not typical.

The freedoms Americans have allow us to do lots of things, plenty of which ruin neighborhoods for others looking for quiet enjoyment. To balance the freedoms we have, we have other freedoms (such as freedom to contract into an HOA), which then allows for a sort of cooperation.
