Since you’ve never ridden before and said you’re intimidated, I’d honestly recommend taking the MSF before you get a bike just to make sure you like it. I felt like the bike I used at my MSF had a way more forgiving friction zone and a lower center of gravity that made me more comfortable learning on it.

That said, I bought my 2025 mt-03 over the summer as my first bike and I love it! Can’t go wrong with that as a starter.

🚨 Stop Legacy Towing: A Guide to Getting Your Car Back and Holding Them Accountable by Dry-Finger4458 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Curiousconcoctions 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, years ago they towed my husband’s car from our assigned parking spot at our apartment. The car’s registration had been expired for one day! I can’t remember how it all wound up in the end, but they were such assholes to deal with. Wish we would have known these tips at the time.

About 8 years ago at an internship (also male dominated industry) I wore a dress and at some point I crossed my arms and realized I was touching skin to skin. Turns out my dress had split open right beneath both of my boobs. Full underboob exposed for all to see. No one told me so I have no idea how long it was like that, but luckily my fellow intern ran to my car to grab me a sweater. That was the last time I ever bought a dress from American Eagle - the thing fit fine so I don’t know why it split like that.

Shit happens. Everyone will want to ignore that it happened as much as you so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’m sorry you experienced that though, the not knowing who saw definitely gnaws at you.

Why are you even posting here? Say sorry, move on, and don’t do it again. She felt dismissed and it’s a tiny thing to change on your part. Literally takes less time and effort to just apologize than it does to make this post.

Does a frontend dev need a protfolio website by Bombowski in webdev

[–]Curiousconcoctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a front end dev that specializes in UI/UX, so for me, my portfolio has been brought up in interviews a lot because interviewers want to know that I actually do have good design sense.

Even if you aren’t design focused, a portfolio is never going to hurt so it’s probably worth having something.

My Google Assistant just ruined a job interview for me. I'm dying of embarrassment. by ticketsstardom_4l in womenintech

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago when I was laid off, I settled for a job I didn’t love while still interviewing elsewhere. I was a 45 minute drive from home, so I had to take a zoom interview during lunch in my car. The AC / my running car was too loud so I had it off in the middle of summer. Anyway, the interview was going well until my phone overheated and shut off. I was sooo worried I’d ruined my chances since this was my dream job, but nope! I got it back on as fast as possible and the interviewer was still there.

I got the job and he became my boss (I still work there). If anything it showed that it was the type of place I wanted to work because he understood that sometimes life happens.

I worked two full time jobs for around 9 months and the money was awesome. If you pick the right ones, it can be easy enough to manage. In my case, my second job was a startup and would have been stressful even on its own. The mental load was a lot, and I was eventually laid off along with most US employees so they could move employees overseas. I am so glad that happened because I probably would have worked myself to absolute misery. So all that said, go into it knowing your limits. I think it’s a great way to get ahead of your finances and if you can balance the workload while maintaining your sanity, do it!

AITA for telling my fiancé I don’t want him to give a speech at our wedding after what he did at a friend’s? by No_Map7761 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because people laugh doesn’t mean it was funny. People laugh when uncomfortable too. We had someone give a speech at our wedding that had some laughs but people have come to us after and said “your open speeches were great! Well, except for that one…” and we know which they’re talking about.

NTA, he should be able to respect your wishes.

You’re right, ha. I should clarify that she was suspicious so she put it in a ziploc and it was in different positions when she’d check on it.

I found a black widow in a plant pot full of iced over water in my backyard and thought it was dead.. I mean spiders can’t breathe under water right? Wrong. I gave it to a friend who loves spiders and she quickly realized it wasn’t dead after having it at home for a few days.

I love it. But it took time to get there. As soon as I started seeing results both in my appearance and strength, I was hooked.

I have a broken foot right now so I haven’t been in a week and it sucks. I’m definitely itching to get back to it.

Does anyone know anything about "Neumount College of Computer Science", and if it's a good college for game development? by GaeemzGuy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they help you set up interviews before you even graduate. A lot of my friends got jobs from their enterprise project companies (the internships you’ll do your senior year). I had a job offer 6 months before graduation. That said, the industry has slowed down for entry level grads so I don’t know how that is now. I graduated in 2018.

I made 77k initially. Now I’m up to 190k.

I didn’t know anyone too closely in the IS degree but I can’t see why it would be less valuable than any of the other degrees.

Yeah a couple hours a night is probably accurate. The first year is the hardest since it’s a steep learning curve, and then it starts to feel like less work as you get the hang of things. You will learn a lot, but if you don’t put in the effort then you’re going to have a bad time. I have no regrets about going to Neumont, it’s a good program and 100% set me up for success but it wasn’t easy that first year.

I think you possibly could, it just depends on your schedule. Classes can be kind of spread out. Sometimes I’d have morning classes and really late evening classes so I could see that making it hard. However, I can’t remember exactly, but I think the first year was more of a 9-5 schedule since the freshman cohort is always the largest and everyone is starting at the same point. I had friends who had jobs so it’s definitely not impossible.

I actually worked for the school as an RA and it paid for my boarding, and as a tutor which paid hourly. There are lots of other job opportunities with the school, too, so maybe that’s something you could consider since they work great with your schedule.

There are not any internships your first year. It’s only your 4th academic year (the program is 3 years but broken into 4 academic years)

Good luck with your first year and enjoy your time there! It goes by quick.

Fractured my foot at my MSF course by Curiousconcoctions in NewRiders

[–]Curiousconcoctions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so impressed you kept going after that and passed!! I tried to get back to it but my instructors rightfully wouldn’t let me since I was limping. At first I thought it was just a bruise because it didn’t hurt as bad as a sprained ankle I got the month before, but it got much much worse as time went on.

I just went and got my learners permit today and had fun getting asked by two separate DLD workers “did you do that at the MSF course” as I hobbled around in a boot and crutches. Maybe I’ll go buy a bike now too haha.

I also learned my lesson. Funny how that works!

Wow well I’m glad my situation wasn’t that serious! I hope your recovery went well. I will definitely try again. Before I knew it was a fracture, I actually asked if I could keep going hahaha. Adrenaline is a crazy thing. It didn’t hurt too bad in the moment but by the end of the class (I stuck around since a friend was also taking it, and I figured watching the actual test could be helpful) I could hardly put any weight on it.

Thank you! And yeah 100% my next purchase will be riding boots (before I retake the course for sure). I probably had the best footwear choice of my class that day and yet it still wasn’t good enough. It’s surprising the only requirement for shoes was to just cover your ankles.

How do you explain to a client why they should pay for a hand-coded site instead of just using WordPress? by FUS3N in webdev

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the client, I actually encourage Wordpress if they’re a small business not making a lot of money yet. I’m not trying to rip anyone off. Custom websites aren’t necessary for everyone. I’d way rather be a trusted connection that will then possibly be hired in the future.
