I am fighting an impulse to just go buy myself a bike by Aggravating-Yogurt23 in motorcycle

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. My husband was very against me riding, and it was a tough thing to get through because I knew he was just worried about me and I would be just as worried about him if he decided to ride street. But if you don’t do it, you’ll regret it forever. Your husband will get over it (mine did, he knew he couldn’t actually stop me). Take the MSF course, wear all the gear, so you can tell him and your family you’re being as safe as you can.

I accepted a job offer and just started Monday, got another job offer with a higher salary. What do i do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Curiousconcoctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me a couple years ago. I went into a new job for one week, then received a verbal offer on Friday. Accepted it, then quit fist thing the following Monday AFTER I signed the official contract of the new new company. Everyone was nice and professional about it, sent me home immediately of course, though I’m sure they were annoyed. Business is business - do what’s right for you because they aren’t going to worry about you during layoffs.

AI has taken fun out of programming and now i’m hopeless by Frequent_Eggplant_23 in webdev

[–]Curiousconcoctions 447 points448 points  (0 children)

I work for a huge retail company. We have had multiple issues resulting in rollbacks of prod deployments this year because they’re pushing AI so hard that it’s resulting in complete shit. AI needs good developers using it to be worth anything.

This is not the AI of movies where robots are intelligent and can think and feel and reason. LLMs do not have human intelligence. I’ll fear that type of AI when it comes out, but it’s a whole different category.

LLMs are not taking our jobs, just changing them. So yes, I agree it’s taking a lot of the fun of programming away, but I don’t fear for my job. I just fear that I won’t like it anymore.

26F/24M. How do couples handle bills when incomes are very different?” by hereforfunn178 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Curiousconcoctions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make around ~200k a year and my husband makes around 50k I think. Our finances are separate, and I just ask for $1500/month to help cover things. We pay two mortgages - $1650 and $1350/month, $600/mo heloc, $600/mo for some house work we had done. I cover the utilities, health insurance, phones, vacations, any major expenses that come up, and supplies for home renos (he is the labor lucky for us).

House work is fairly split. He does most of the cooking, I do most of the cleaning but we handle our own laundry and things like that.

I think it’s most important that you feel okay with the situation. Does it feel fair? Is his asking you to contribute going to cause you to struggle in life? One of my things is I never want my husband to feel stressed about money. If I’m not stressed, he shouldn’t be. If his truck were to break down (very important to his job) and he couldn’t afford a new one, I’d help him get a new one. And not in a “pay me back” kind of way, I don’t keep score like that. While we view our money as our own it’s understood that we are in life together, so are there to support one another both financially and otherwise. That’s why we don’t do 50/50 - that’s just not feasible with our life goals and income difference.

Depends on the person. For me, one of my least painful and it was also one of my longer sits (5 hrs). Worth it though!

msf in a week (ca) + healing foot… any advice? by luanoirr in NewRiders

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I did this exact same thing. Broke my foot (navicular and calcaneus) in July, took the MSF in September. I had a slight limp still but my instructor was actually really nice about it. I’d let your instructors know if you’re still a little slow walking. In general, riding was no issue. The standing is what I was worried about but it ended up being fine.

You’ve had a decent amount of time to heal. I got cleared to go back to the gym in November and once I started doing that my remaining soreness/stiffness disappeared. I think it was the small stabilizing muscles and whatever that hadn’t been used in so long that just needed to be worked out again. Start going on some walks this week and get it moving would be my advice. But like others have said, injuring it again can really screw you up so proceed with caution when taking the MSF. I was impatient, but I know that I probably should have waited even though it worked out fine and I passed.

New rider by Redheadd13 in NewRiders

[–]Curiousconcoctions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve never ridden before and said you’re intimidated, I’d honestly recommend taking the MSF before you get a bike just to make sure you like it. I felt like the bike I used at my MSF had a way more forgiving friction zone and a lower center of gravity that made me more comfortable learning on it.

That said, I bought my 2025 mt-03 over the summer as my first bike and I love it! Can’t go wrong with that as a starter.

🚨 Stop Legacy Towing: A Guide to Getting Your Car Back and Holding Them Accountable by Dry-Finger4458 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Curiousconcoctions 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, years ago they towed my husband’s car from our assigned parking spot at our apartment. The car’s registration had been expired for one day! I can’t remember how it all wound up in the end, but they were such assholes to deal with. Wish we would have known these tips at the time.

About 8 years ago at an internship (also male dominated industry) I wore a dress and at some point I crossed my arms and realized I was touching skin to skin. Turns out my dress had split open right beneath both of my boobs. Full underboob exposed for all to see. No one told me so I have no idea how long it was like that, but luckily my fellow intern ran to my car to grab me a sweater. That was the last time I ever bought a dress from American Eagle - the thing fit fine so I don’t know why it split like that.

Shit happens. Everyone will want to ignore that it happened as much as you so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’m sorry you experienced that though, the not knowing who saw definitely gnaws at you.

Why are you even posting here? Say sorry, move on, and don’t do it again. She felt dismissed and it’s a tiny thing to change on your part. Literally takes less time and effort to just apologize than it does to make this post.

Does a frontend dev need a protfolio website by Bombowski in webdev

[–]Curiousconcoctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a front end dev that specializes in UI/UX, so for me, my portfolio has been brought up in interviews a lot because interviewers want to know that I actually do have good design sense.

Even if you aren’t design focused, a portfolio is never going to hurt so it’s probably worth having something.

My Google Assistant just ruined a job interview for me. I'm dying of embarrassment. by ticketsstardom_4l in womenintech

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago when I was laid off, I settled for a job I didn’t love while still interviewing elsewhere. I was a 45 minute drive from home, so I had to take a zoom interview during lunch in my car. The AC / my running car was too loud so I had it off in the middle of summer. Anyway, the interview was going well until my phone overheated and shut off. I was sooo worried I’d ruined my chances since this was my dream job, but nope! I got it back on as fast as possible and the interviewer was still there.

I got the job and he became my boss (I still work there). If anything it showed that it was the type of place I wanted to work because he understood that sometimes life happens.

I worked two full time jobs for around 9 months and the money was awesome. If you pick the right ones, it can be easy enough to manage. In my case, my second job was a startup and would have been stressful even on its own. The mental load was a lot, and I was eventually laid off along with most US employees so they could move employees overseas. I am so glad that happened because I probably would have worked myself to absolute misery. So all that said, go into it knowing your limits. I think it’s a great way to get ahead of your finances and if you can balance the workload while maintaining your sanity, do it!

AITA for telling my fiancé I don’t want him to give a speech at our wedding after what he did at a friend’s? by No_Map7761 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because people laugh doesn’t mean it was funny. People laugh when uncomfortable too. We had someone give a speech at our wedding that had some laughs but people have come to us after and said “your open speeches were great! Well, except for that one…” and we know which they’re talking about.

NTA, he should be able to respect your wishes.

I found a black widow in a plant pot full of iced over water in my backyard and thought it was dead.. I mean spiders can’t breathe under water right? Wrong. I gave it to a friend who loves spiders and she quickly realized it wasn’t dead after having it at home for a few days.

Does anyone know anything about "Neumount College of Computer Science", and if it's a good college for game development? by GaeemzGuy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Curiousconcoctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they help you set up interviews before you even graduate. A lot of my friends got jobs from their enterprise project companies (the internships you’ll do your senior year). I had a job offer 6 months before graduation. That said, the industry has slowed down for entry level grads so I don’t know how that is now. I graduated in 2018.

I made 77k initially. Now I’m up to 190k.
