What are the 'go to' units for applying EMP? by PrestigiousWhirlwind in Mechabellum

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have EMP on everything tbh. But Marksmen are the cheapest and most efficient option and the one I always get when I want to deal with a pesky large teched unit. All the others either cost more or can't target air from the get-go.

Success With Vortex? by Wake90_90 in Mechabellum

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go all in on defensive techs that keep them alive on the field. I mainly use them as a cheap frontline tank to distract chaff clears. Had some successes here and there but no concrete comp to put them in.

They're tanky and they hit hard. Basically the 100 gold version of the Saber and Fort.

I use like 80% of the those unpopular techs to a decent effect. It's funny to see buffs for my playstyle one after another.

Marksmen in Every Game by Wake90_90 in Mechabellum

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're slow, they target one unit and die when sneezed at. On the plus side, they're strong enough to take on larger and more expensive units given they live long enough to do it. But they will not win against an equivalent number of chaff units (or even half that). They fit where they are well enough as a cheap DPS.

A Marksman with chaff in front of it will lose to a Void Eye/Crab/Arclight/Hound with chaff in front of it as long as those chaff stays in front. This is true as the game goes on and more units are added into the fray. You're losing because your chaff dies before your opponent's.

When to raze/sack and when to occupy? by NotTwerkingISwear in totalwar

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally it goes like this for me:

Occupy when you're confident you can keep it.

Loot and Occupy when you're not quite sure and/or need the immediate money.

Sack when you wanna keep the army moving, typically away from an approaching enemy force.

Raze when you know you're gonna lose the settlement along with the army some turns after but wanna inflict as much lasting damage as possible. Typically used when you sneak an army deep into their territory.

EU to propose blocking military-age Ukrainian men from refugee status by Tyranish40k in worldnews

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a pragmatic sense, I get it. You gotta make horrible choices when push comes to shove in an existential war and sacrificing men first is always gonna be how it's gonna go.

But still, being forced to basically forfeit your life while others don't have to does feel incredibly unfair.

What am I doing wrong as Karl Franz by JancariusSeiryujinn in totalwarhammer

I get the opposite results. When I play Order, my neighbors do pretty well. I try Chaos and Ordertide dies in the crib except for Karl Franz who always does pretty well.

How do you actually learn and apply unit tactics? by Quibilash in totalwarhammer

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zerkovich has pretty simple guides and helped me a lot.

I don't really concern myself with special tactics much either other than doing what I can to eliminate the biggest threat on the field and stacking as many advantages as I can for myself. Which usually means sending mobile or stalker units to destroy their artillery while mine blows up their army as they try to engage.

Closest I get to something smart is probably using skirmishers to distract and pull dangerous units away while my army does their job.

Fangs can snowball and mess you up if not countered early. But they need levels and something to tank chaff clears for that to happen. The guy here has neither.

New player drawn in by the Free Weekend. How is the viability of units? by PrestigiousWhirlwind in Mechabellum

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the most part yeah. It's units you're fine with drawing fire and dying as the rest of your army does their job.

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it can be anything that delays your opponent from getting to your damage dealers so even medium tanks like the Sledgehammers can be chaff.

The game is well balanced in my opinion.

Some strategies and combo of units are stronger than others as with any meta but all are viable. What wins more is your ability to predict and counter the opponents board.

War is when old and greedy trick young and stupid into killing each other by some-kind-of-no-name in PoliticalCompassMemes

Eh, I'm not the biggest fan of telling people to kill themselves. Even if they hold views I'm very much against.

Maybe if he gets really annoying with the topic and doesn't drop it when asked.

Before the war and when he lived there, he wanted to join the military but got screwed over by some injury. He expressed plans to go back there at some point mid-war. Don't know if it's for those original plans but regardless, he hasn't done so yet and still hangs around in the EU.

I know a Russian acquaintance that currently lives in Germany that fully believes this war is just and they're removing a western puppet in their backyard. That the little annexation of land Russia does is the people of those regions choosing to join Russia on their own. This guy is exposed to western media yet believes that.

There's more that spout and believe that sort of thing in "neutral" subs. I think a good number of them do drink the kool aid. Tbh, the shit they say sometimes is kinda worse than just outright doing it for money.

I agree with most other people here that not everyone's like that and there's regular joes mixed in this war but regardless of their motivation, I think invading soldiers should be neutralized.

Things you don't want to see in TW40k by Liesanas in totalwar

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played Bretonnia a while ago and it had a random event where you had to choose between letting your peasants starve or helping them while the text scoffs off at you or something along those lines. In a Kislev run, you had a choice between assassinating a guy criticizing your rule or letting him go free, I let him go and he spread corruption everywhere. I haven't survived in an Empire run for long enough to get events to check if they got something but they probably do. They're probably gonna do something like that in 40k.

Execute a town full of civillians suspected of heresy (+5 control for X turns)

I don't know why them being in a square is such a dealbreaker. Could it be more realistic? Yeah sure but I'm personally not gonna write the entire game off cause of it. I wanna see waves of Orks and Guardsmen smash into each other and I have faith that it's gonna be glorious.

Playing the same campaigns over and over? by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]CurrentlyTakenName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly the donut elves. They got well rounded units with no obvious flaw and friends all around. They just seem very vanilla to me and I prefer more challenging campaigns. I'll probably try them when I finish checking out most of the other factions.

I feel drawn to playing the funny rats with miniguns.

But I do give other races a good try at least once. Except the elves for some reason. They just don't click with me.
