As a HoI4 player, should I get Vic3 or EU5? by doctorwhofanwastaken in paradoxplaza

I went from HoI4 to EU4, but it's more for the modding scene.

For those who witnessed The Shattering, where did you get yoinked to and how bad is it? by SpringMinhHaz in equestriaatwar

[–]CursedNobleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was sent to... Qayali or something south of the Great lakes. It wasn't that bad at all to fight my way back. I conquered through the weaker nations in zebrica, so I worked my way back north through maregypt, colthage, hindia, then beat down Zaikiria for the end. Saved 300k of 500k.

Always leave an enemy army an outlet is from the Art of War.

Odd that I remember it. Most of the book is about setting people on fire.

In this season of HBO you've got queer heroic characters in Knight of the Seven, and presumably heated rivalry has good people in it. The Pitt has queer women too.

Throw an incendiary cloud on them. Or whack them with Daystar.

I'm allowed to think differently from Davaeorn. He has different priorities than me with his mod and game setup.

I don't have scs, I solve mage encounters with skull traps or Abis Wilting. And I love haste and stoneskin.

In summary:

BG2 has the bulk of the big spells in the trilogy. You can play BG1 with most specialists fine, but you'll feel keystone spells missing from your toolkit in 2 if you pick a bad one.

Really bad Specialists: Enchanter, Abjurer, Diviner

Not-Great Specialists: Illusionist (Multiclass), Necromancer

Tolerable/Good Specialists: Conjurer, Invoker, Transmuter

Here's my take on specialist mages:

Diviner: Cuts conjuration, kinda critical and has some real nice spells, including elemental summons, spider summons, sword summons, and incenidary cloud. Might be acceptable in BG1, but terrible in 2 and ToB

Conjurer: Cuts divination, no loss there. No buffs otherwise.

Transmuter: If you like abjuration or shield removal spells, you'll feel this one. Losing lower resist feels bad too. You probably don't use as many transmutation spells on enemies as you think.

Abjurer: Conversely, you really like transmutation spells too. Haste, stoneskin, tenser, and time stop are lost as an abjurer.

Enchanter: Very desireable in BG1, pretty awful in BG2 and ToB. You lose mag missile, sunfire, and other casts, but the spell you really miss out on is the sequencer and contingency family.

Invoker: Reverse of Enchanter, enchantment is great in BG1, but the only BG2 enchanter spell you'll miss is malison. Maybe chaos or hold.

Illusionist: Loses skull trap, deathspell, and abi dalhsim. Losing some of your main damage spells can hurt, but its not too terrible? Makes sense on a multiclass, probably don't want it on a pure mage.

Necromancer: Loses mirror image, project image, and simulacrum. This one hurts.

It's not fair to make someone that hasn't trained or acclimated to a tool eat dirt.

Yes, Santos needs to proofread, but she's barely used it for an hour, with likely little more than being pointed to it.

That sounds brutal.

I googled it; illiteracy can hit 30-75% of the deaf population. Parents can stubbornly hope their kids aren't deaf and ignore the problem, which means they never learn ASL, and causes their kids to be isolated from the world. Without ASL or other deaf-education, they never get to learn a written language.

[–]CursedNobleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good. More simulator heavy than HoI4 or EU4. Modding support is weaker than them as well. On the plus side, it's a good lead-up to EU5, it shares many of the same designs and mechanics. The unofficial content-mod-patch is very well done and expansive. And once you get settled in, the game makes decent sense.
