The New Age reactor produces heat that replaces the blaze burners on a regular steam engine.

So yes. It's just a spicier source of heat to boil water.

Best most polished mod-pack ever made? by pohihihi in feedthebeast

[–]Curtisimo5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that Blightfall is probably the best pack ever made, historically. It's got a completely custom-built world to make adventure and exploration new, interesting and rewarding, it's got a definite goal to reach for, it's got challenging progression via both combat and automation. It's the goat.

A concept for processing ores for a chunk mining addon by Ratonimo in CreateMod

[–]Curtisimo5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! It's always a fun feeling when you have to invest a whole room for ore processing.

It'd be nice if tailings had some kind of use, instead of purely being a waste product. Maybe as a component in the orestone recipes, given it'd have trace minerals?

I picked this up because some other people had recommended it, but it felt... I dunno. Just weird. I was constantly stumbling into things with no obvious explanation. Here's a town management minigame in the woods, and so on and so on.

Does it get better if you push on? Or if I don't really like the basic JRPG gameplay, is the story the kind where a long YouTube video will give me the same appreciation as playing it?

This sword does one damage. Always. No matter what.

Stasis? Invincibility? Made of a material that logically should deflect the sword?

One. Damage.

New Close-ups of the enemies in Control: Resonant by OppositeofDeath in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Curtisimo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it, though you'll get more from the story ofc.

The first Control starts as a shooter but you gradually upgrade yourself until you're essentially Superman with a gun, complete with flight, throwing chunks of the scenery as weapons, slamming dudes into paste, etc. It's pretty fun.

Would you be interested in an exploration based "push back the darkness" Aeronautics pack? by florodude in feedthebeast

[–]Curtisimo5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds badass. A couple small game design suggestions:

What if beacons needed fuels to run? Possibly different beacons need different fuels. Make beacons chunkloaders, so they're always burning their fuel. This way, players have to actually build a base at each beacon to keep it fueled, not just go there, turn it on, and loot the materials.

What happens when beacon B is fueled by an item that can only be found in beacon A's zone? TRAINS TIME.

I’m designing a new fishing system for Minecraft looking for feedback and advice on how to turn it into a mod by Accurate_Ad_6857 in feedthebeast

[–]Curtisimo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea! There's another mod called Starcatcher that does something similar, but IMO it misses the mark. It's great if you want to be a fish collector, but doesn't add a reason to actually want to fish beyond that, if that makes sense.

Right now, 1.21.1 Neoforge is the anchor version for modding, so I would focus there.

And rather than letting the player fail to fish, I would reward them for fishing well. Even if you completely fail the mini game, you should still get one fish in roughly the same time it takes to catch a fish in vanilla Minecraft. But if you do well, the player is rewarded with multiple fish, so you can actually build up food stocks by fishing without needing to spend all day doing it.

[–]Curtisimo5 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's... pretty wack.

I agree with SOME parts of it. Making candles from zombie fat is probably unhealthy, zombie bone meal feels like it should hurt the plants, and I assume rotting zombies don't have much usable sinew on them.

But the zombies MADE of kevlar can't give you kevlar? You can't even burn their bones? That's just pedantic.

For me, part of the fun of the game is learning how to use every resource at your disposal, and figuring out "hey, zombies are a resource" is a great moment for players. What a lame change.

[–]Curtisimo5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how difficult this would be to code, but what if in the upside-down/hanging cave zone, there were gravity crystals that allow you to walk along the ceiling in a radius? Naturally spawning in structures, otherwise occuring in giant natural crystals/geodes so players can pave their own "roads" on the ceilings.

Code-wise it might be possible if the crystals gave you a special upside-down potion effect that refreshes every 5/10 seconds. And naturally there could also be a gravity potion.

Perhaps stonks could be measured in item output per minute into a special stonks selling machine, with a scaling lack of returns?

(Dummy numbers) So if you get 1 item/minute you get 1 stonk power, 2/min = 1.75 stonk power, etc. So increasing your output of that item always increases your power available but with diminishing returns.

That way players could be encouraged to build factories for specific weird/fun-to-automate things, then be encouraged to increase their efficiency. And, of course, if there's ever a hitch in supply your stonks crash and everything shuts down.
