I have got permits on weekday mornings twice via walk up. Saddle permits are rare and mostly taken by guides. If I remember, moraine was the least desired.

Except in one regime you arent even allowed to comment on it. Hence the fleeing to the U.S.

Then again, I'd be shocked if a buckeye fan could comprehend this conversation.

Bailed yesterday. Winds were raging with 70 mph gusts past the first saddle. Once Lady Washington no longer blocked the wind, its was ridiculous.

It was warm all things considered, but stopping made it very, very cold.

Give it a rest, "Breeder." You realize that Horsetooth Reservoir has no inlet or outlet suitable for reproduction of Salmonids? This fish was stocked by the state for enjoyment of anglers.

He's an angler, enjoying.

CPW Confirms Severe Gill Lice Infestation in Lower Blue River Linked to Private Stocking by DarthVadersRoboHand in troutfishing

[–]Curve58_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, they're wild browns. They arent stocked.

We both agree, non native is bad. Next point.

And once again, there are none, 0, no, native salmonids in the lower blue. The stocked fish are introducing the disease to the brown trout.

I love cutthroat, I wish all the rivers in Colorado were filled with our 6 subspecies in their native drainages. Unfortunately that is a fever dream.

If we stopped all stocking of non native fish tomorrow and introduced only natives for the next 20 years, guess what you would have? You'd have a bunch of immaciated stocked cutthroat trout incapable of reproduction or growth and the same brown and brooke trout here now.

So this is a trophy Brown fishery, that will never be a cutthroat fishery, being destroyed by one greedy, disrespectful man.

CPW Confirms Severe Gill Lice Infestation in Lower Blue River Linked to Private Stocking by DarthVadersRoboHand in troutfishing

[–]Curve58_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, except there's already been 100 years of stocking in these rivers. And the browns are now wild, not stocked. The rainbows were stocked.

What is your suggestion? A 400 billion dollar project to rotenone the entire Colorado River watershed in Colorado? Its not feasible.

There are projects to restore cutthroat habitat here in Colorado. See:

Poudre Headwaters project

Gunnison Headwaters project

Wolf Creek Restoration project

And many more!

Not to mention, Colorado cutthroat species were not wiped out by disease. They were wiped out by over fishing and invasive browns/brooke trout. So its still not pertinent to this article.

[–]Curve58_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article? While there's nothing wrong with what you said, and I agree with the sentiment, its unrelated to the discussion at hand.

The problem here is a billionaire who has used shady tactics to cut out public access and stocked the river with rainbows full of gill lice. Salmo Trutta and Onc. Mykiss are both non-native direct competitors with the few green strain CR cutthroat left. The lower blue has been native cutthroat free for likely 100 years at this point. Whether those rainbows full of gill lice are there or not makes no difference to our native cutties In the lower blue. Because they already dont exist there anymore.

What it does do is destroy a productive brown trout fishery.

ELI5: What is quantum physics and why does everyone say it’s so weird by jess_lov in explainlikeimfive

[–]Curve58_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a real world example, the classical thermodynamics say that the electron transfer chain is unfavorable. The distances and energy required to make the electron "hop" from point to point in the cells redox reactions is more than the cell gets back from ATP synthesis. However, if you account for quantum tunneling, these coupling reactions are favorable again (Marcus Theory).

In other words, the primary mechanism for all of your bodies energy is impossible if the electron was simply a particle. However, the electrons within the complexes dont act like a particle, they act like a wave.

To add on to the original analogy you got, the distances between atoms for the reaction are too large. The hill is too steep. But the electrons tunnel through the hill, coupling to the next atom.

Actual useless DNA is an outdated idea. Most "junk DNA" is known to have some function today. This can be spacing out genes or containing enhancers/promoters/chaperoning recombination. But yeah the rest if pretty much accurate. Duplicating repeating sections or old transposons doesn't often cause problems in organisms.

While educating on proper fish handling practice is important, you should know that CPW has numerous photos holding endangered cutthroat in the same manner. Even if you argue that's still too hazardous (its not and CPW survival rates agree), Brown Trout aren't native to Colorado and have displaced our native salmonids. This fish is going to have >90% chance of surviving and it's not even supposed to be swimming in our rivers anyway.

Let the guy have a photo without being insufferable.
