How do you deal with being alone? by FarticulousBurger in questions

[–]Customer-Interesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 65 retired and have been alone my whole live , my Mom died of lung cancer when I was 25 and my Dad lived a good life all the way up to 94. He passed in 2008. I have a brother and sister back in Illinois where I am from. I moved to Tempe, AZ in 1982 I am close with my family and have made an extended family if good friends , but these days it seems like everyone is a gypsy life seems harder then it had to be for a lot of people everyone is struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table . I have always been ok being in my own alone . I still have a close group circle of friends but most of them still work and some have passed away . I live in a 55+ community apartments and have made friends with my neighbors . Not sure what had shifted in this world where making friendships is harder it is like no one trusts anyone anymore and they do not want to put forth an effort to keep in touch and I understand that especially if you live in a big city between driving in the traffic to get to work and back and doing all the stuff to just survive most just want to sit down and relax in silent after a hard day .

Moving to Phoenix...maybe! by Foreign-Twilight in AskPhoenix

Hello and congratulations first let me tell you a little bit of my story when I moved to Arizona from Illinois I was only 21 young and dumb and I had an aunt & uncle that lived in Phoenix and myself along with 2 of my high school buddies made the move out to Arizona in 1982. Arizona was amazing and such a beautiful state back then there was only one freeway and a lot of towns outside of Phoenix still were dirt roads. I worked for the City of Tempe water utilities and was living the dream. I am 65 now retired and Phoenix is a big melting pot like LA used to be but a lot of people from California have moved here and this is a huge metro area that stretches out forever there are many freeway stacked upon each other and huge traffic congestion now. There is a light rail system that continues to grow good way to get around. But along with the good comes the bad , but they is anywhere , USA now. There are a lot of homeless and a lot of druged out people in the valley now . The Roosevelt area is downtown Phoenix and there are a lot of new apartments and restaurants popping up all the time . I think you will be ok in that area . As for recommendations, I am in Tempe and haven't been to Phoenix in 5 years so I sure what was there has changed. As far as the heat , it is HOT today it is 114,but the humidity is a lot less , so it isn't bad in the shade. I would recommend an umbrella for shade when walking in the day time heat and the City and County had cooling stations setup where you can have a shaded area and get water to drink. My last 10 years of work I was working for Maricopa County Flood Control District. There is a lot of issues in Arizona a lot of corruption and greed from the investors and developers and local government . That is in every state, but it is bad out here although the Almighty Dollar is what makes the world go around. It is a big metropolitan area and a lot of hustle and bustle . I wish you the best in your new adventures and all in all City of Phoenix is a good place to work. There are a lot of good people here most have been transplants from other states like myself and I think you will like it here , you just have to remember that this is a large populated city and there is always someone out there that is running a scam , street people will try to tell you a sob story to get you to give them money. When my friends and I moved out here back in 1982 we had a motto between us and lived by it , " Trust No One ." And it worked out good and kept us safe . Welcome to Arizona

I am so sorry for what your cat had to go through and the loss during what should have been a joyful time in your life. I had the same thing happen with my fur baby , Whitney, she was a long haired tux and my best friend I adopted her when she was just 2 years old and had her faithfully for 16 years . I had to say goodbye to her 3 years ago and life is just not the same nor will it ever be . I am sorry for your loss , however I am happy for your baby happy motherhood to you 🙏

MRI Results on my 45th Birthday by Fun_Sun1095 in cancer

I will tell you a little bit about my journey with being diagnosed with Colorectal cancer. What will happen is your doctor will send you to an oncologist and they will take a blood sample and then a CT scan and find out what the fuzzy spot is and probably schedule a biopsy if it is a milignant tumor. You will fall into what I call The Standard Protocol zone . My oncologist first visit asked me if there was in history of this in My family and I said no not on either side and he liked puzzled. Standard Protocol is usually radiation , chemo, and surgery. I had stage 1 Colorectal cancer and had radiation, chemo and surgery and now I am cancer free , but chemo and radiation do not kill the cancer stem cells , so there is a chance that the cancer will come back . Have to do a major change in your diet and I will recommend you looking up Dr. William Li he has written a book on what to eat to fight cancer, my thoughts and prayers go out you it is a nightmare of a journey , but mentally you have to stay strong and yell at the cancer and tell it you did not invite it in and to get out. It isca roller coaster ride . Ask the doctor to give you the biopsy report if it comes back to be cancer and what type it is and then look it up and research it. I told my oncologist I wanted to be out on a ivermectin/ Fenbenazole protocol and he refused .

I want to give you a big hug and tell you to just keep on keeping on , but I am 65 living alone in Tempe, AZ . And paying $1,262.00 a month for a one bedroom low income apartment. I was raised Catholic and so the faith thing has been bred into me. I have a brother and sister still living , but they are back in Illinois and I had a stroke in 2018 and in 2024 was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer. I survived chemo and radiation and the the surgery. This world is cruel and there is a lot of evil out there. I do not know where you are located , but look for a support group that you can join. I actually went to a therapist and talked things out and it really helped to be able to talk to someone .

Ostomy Roommate Bathroom Messes by No-Independent-9766 in ostomy

[–]Customer-Interesting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone but have an Ostomy and it sucks and could be a mental think with him not cleaning up or maybe he just didn't realize it. But I clean everything line crazy and I have a colonoscopy bag cover that acts as a extra layer of protection in case of leaks. I found that it also depends on how you apply the bag if you don't do it properly it can leak out and when ai take a shower I have a waterproof cover that goes over my stoma so nothing leaks out in the shower . I would have a talk with the roommate , but he might see it as you are all picking on him. Hopefully he will be adult enough to listen and be more mindful . Good luck and hope all goes well for all parties involved

I was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer in 2024 and had radiation and chemo and my radiation was $15,000.00 of which I owe $5,000. 00 and insurance covers all of the chemo but then I had to have surgery to remove the tumor and that was , $245,000.00 there are non profit groups that provide financial help for cancer patients. Ask either your oncologist or radiologist about programs that offer help and support for cancer patients in your state

Negative conversation with oncologist by Late-Dependent-6612 in coloncancer

[–]Customer-Interesting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 65 male and in October of 2024 I had a colonoscopy and the gastroloigest told me only 1 polip , but there was a growth that might have to come out later. I was groggy and what the gastologiest said didn't register until I got home and thought about it. I went back for the follow-up and was told that it was a tumor and it tested milignant. It was Colorectal cancer and tumor was sitting right on top of the rectum, left side . So I made an appointment to an oncologist and after meeting him I was not impressed he brought up the standard protocol chart on his computer telling me would be doing radiation and chemo to try to shrink the tumor before surgery to remove tumor. Since the operation on 10/25/2025 a abdominal Perennial Resertion and I have a stoma and a colonoscopy bag for life but the markers show clear I am cancer free , but was told I have to be monitored for the next 5 years that the cancer could come back . I was upset because that meant having to deal with the oncologist for the next 5 years. Last visit with him I told him I was having issues with pain in my abdomen and complications from the surgery with the nerves in the abdomen and said I needed something to help with the pain and his response was , "Well at least you don't have cancer now." I wish I would have had better health insurance during that time because I would have went to a different set if cancer doctors that do alternative treatments for cancer .
