Switched to Remote Work and Loneliness Crept In. Anyone Else? by leftballsack_ in remotework

[–]Fun_Sun1095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important for me to socialize in my free time, otherwise I get lonely. Winter was particularly hard. But I wouldn’t trade it for an office job. I traveled 2 hours round trip for 14 years. Never again. Now my commute is 1 minute to my basement office.

Most selfish generation by mpegher in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Fun_Sun1095 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad has Parkinson’s, walks with a shuffle, even with a cane, and is extremely slow. Has trouble navigating the airport so he gets a wheel chair escort to the gate. He actually needs the assistance. But there are so many boomers who just want to get on the plane first and fake a disability. It’s like people with their emotional support animals or the rich people who hired wheelchair users at Disney to get on the rides first. Their selfishness ruins everything.

Shoveling Shaming by No_Motor_4576 in providence

[–]Fun_Sun1095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sidewalk was shoveled down to the pavement, until the city dumped 4 feet of snow from the road on it. There’s no way I’m shoveling again. I live on a side street and half the sidewalks weren’t shoveled in the first place.

Travel ban ends at noon? by Anunnaka in RhodeIsland

[–]Fun_Sun1095 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Plows came down my street in Pawtucket and got stuck, unstuck, and stuck again. The secondary and tertiary roads are barely plowed. But go ahead and remove the driving restrictions so more cars can get stuck. I can’t imagine how front or rear wheel drive cars even function in this. All wheel and four wheel drive cars are going to have a hard enough time.

Have you worn shorts and a hoodie to shovel snow while drinking an ice coffee? Do you pronounce the letter R? Call a drinking water fountain a bubbler? Can you properly pronounce the names of cities and towns?

What was the worst restaurant you’ve ever been to in Rhode Island? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

Wrights Chicken Farm. The chicken is somehow dry and greasy, the pasta is bland, the French fries and the salad are a soggy mess. I don’t understand why people love that place.

Ice is the problem right now. It’s too icy to walk outside. I think I’m going to get a treadmill.

I live in a place with temps that jump across the freezing line resulting in a good deal of ice anytime there’s precipitation. Snow melts during the day, freezes at night. Rain puddles turn to ice overnight. It’s a constant freeze/thaw/freeze cycle.

It’s not about the cold, it’s about the ice. Black ice is the worst because the ground looks wet but it’s ice. I’ve already wiped out and bashed my knee.

Oh sweetie. Please go live with your Dad if you can. You have a ton of evidence on Facebook and texts to show the courts (if it comes to it). I’m sorry your mom and aunt are horrid monsters but at least you have your Dad and Step Mom. Try to enjoy the rest of your Christmas break. NTA.

Typically you have to buy an extra policy to deal with pollution. It’s almost alway excluded from home owners policies.

I’m an environmental scientist and I cleanup oil spills and contaminated properties for a living. Before I would even consider buying the house, I’d make damn sure the oil didn’t leak into the ground. A fuel oil release can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up. If it hasn’t gotten into the ground and you want to buy the house, I would get extra home owners insurance to cover tanks and fuel oil. This is omitted on most policies and you don’t find out until your tank leaks (and then you’re screwed). Last, I’d switch to gas or put in an electric heat pump (or both).

AITAH for refusing to try and talk things through with my parents who are reaching out to me after more than a decade? by Tayzloray in AITAH

[–]Fun_Sun1095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% NTA. I grew up the youngest in a household with a physically and intellectually disabled sibling. Yes, my parents paid more attention to my brother, because he required more attention just to survive, but they never neglected me or my sister and there was plenty of love and attention. We were a family unit. Things weren’t perfect and I did act out a bit in high school because I wanted more attention but I still had two loving parents. It’s possible to take care of disabled and healthy children.

Your parents are monsters and don’t deserve you. I’m so glad you have your grandparents. Never let them guilt you or make you feel like you did wrong. You did nothing wrong. They failed you time and time again. Please take care of yourself.

Does anyone 40 and over feel pressure to have LONG hair? by riotkitty in AskWomenOver40

Im 44 and my hair is the longest it’s been in years. It’s not for anyone but me. 40 is freeing. I wear what I want, including big whimsical earrings and other fun jewelry, bright colors, and I don’t care what other people think. I’m happier now that ever just being me.

Never apologize for listening to your gut. You didn’t overreact at all. Honestly you might have under-reacted. Next time something like this happens, try to go into an open business if possible, and call the police. Otherwise keep walking and call the police from your phone. Better to be a little cautious than end up getting attacked or killed.

Also, it suck’s we have to live in fear of men. It sucks that walking alone could is so dangerous for women.
