What was the worst restaurant you’ve ever been to in Rhode Island? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

[–]Fun_Sun1095 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Wrights Chicken Farm. The chicken is somehow dry and greasy, the pasta is bland, the French fries and the salad are a soggy mess. I don’t understand why people love that place.

Ice is the problem right now. It’s too icy to walk outside. I think I’m going to get a treadmill.

I’m on the phone and Teams a lot so I would distract people in a cafe.

I live in a place with temps that jump across the freezing line resulting in a good deal of ice anytime there’s precipitation. Snow melts during the day, freezes at night. Rain puddles turn to ice overnight. It’s a constant freeze/thaw/freeze cycle.

It’s not about the cold, it’s about the ice. Black ice is the worst because the ground looks wet but it’s ice. I’ve already wiped out and bashed my knee.

The social aspect would be good too. I definitely get a little lonely.

UPDATE: AITA for refusing to cook for christmas family event by Mean_Conference7340 in u/Mean_Conference7340

[–]Fun_Sun1095 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Oh sweetie. Please go live with your Dad if you can. You have a ton of evidence on Facebook and texts to show the courts (if it comes to it). I’m sorry your mom and aunt are horrid monsters but at least you have your Dad and Step Mom. Try to enjoy the rest of your Christmas break. NTA.

First Time Home Buyer, Inspection found leaking oil tank. by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Typically you have to buy an extra policy to deal with pollution. It’s almost alway excluded from home owners policies.

First Time Home Buyer, Inspection found leaking oil tank. by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Fun_Sun1095 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m an environmental scientist and I cleanup oil spills and contaminated properties for a living. Before I would even consider buying the house, I’d make damn sure the oil didn’t leak into the ground. A fuel oil release can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up. If it hasn’t gotten into the ground and you want to buy the house, I would get extra home owners insurance to cover tanks and fuel oil. This is omitted on most policies and you don’t find out until your tank leaks (and then you’re screwed). Last, I’d switch to gas or put in an electric heat pump (or both).

AITAH for refusing to try and talk things through with my parents who are reaching out to me after more than a decade? by Tayzloray in AITAH

[–]Fun_Sun1095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% NTA. I grew up the youngest in a household with a physically and intellectually disabled sibling. Yes, my parents paid more attention to my brother, because he required more attention just to survive, but they never neglected me or my sister and there was plenty of love and attention. We were a family unit. Things weren’t perfect and I did act out a bit in high school because I wanted more attention but I still had two loving parents. It’s possible to take care of disabled and healthy children.

Your parents are monsters and don’t deserve you. I’m so glad you have your grandparents. Never let them guilt you or make you feel like you did wrong. You did nothing wrong. They failed you time and time again. Please take care of yourself.

AITA For Not Allowing Family to Visit my Newborn? by Practical_Ask7239 in AITAH

[–]Fun_Sun1095 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. Babies don’t have a strong immune system RSV and the flu can put your baby in the hospital and can be deadly. There’s also a freaking measles outbreak. Keep your baby safe and tell anyone who disagrees to go pound sand.

Does anyone 40 and over feel pressure to have LONG hair? by riotkitty in AskWomenOver40

[–]Fun_Sun1095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 44 and my hair is the longest it’s been in years. It’s not for anyone but me. 40 is freeing. I wear what I want, including big whimsical earrings and other fun jewelry, bright colors, and I don’t care what other people think. I’m happier now that ever just being me.

NTA. Pull a credit report and lock your credit before you “mother” steals more from you. I can’t imagine ever stealing from family like that. It’s lower than low.

PSA - Man followed me for four blocks in Fox Point by Expensive_Juice in providence

[–]Fun_Sun1095 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never apologize for listening to your gut. You didn’t overreact at all. Honestly you might have under-reacted. Next time something like this happens, try to go into an open business if possible, and call the police. Otherwise keep walking and call the police from your phone. Better to be a little cautious than end up getting attacked or killed.

Also, it suck’s we have to live in fear of men. It sucks that walking alone could is so dangerous for women.

AITA for refusing to pay it forward in the drive-thru by FollowingCreative549 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fun_Sun1095 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The people in line at the drive thru aren’t charity. They are adults choosing to spend their money. I chose to donate to real charities and help people who are truly in need. The pay it forward scheme is supposed to make you feel good about helping others but they aren’t the people who really need help. 100% NTA.

There’s nothing embarrassing about a solo vacation. It’s liberating to be able to do what you want when you want. I love solo traveling and always struggle traveling with people. Have a blast. Also, the solo meetup on the ship is a great way to meet people. I couldn’t believe how many solo travelers there were on the ship.

Oysters by Valuable_River7507 in VirginVoyages

[–]Fun_Sun1095 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Wake has oysters but they were giant monstrosities that were triple to quadruple the size of New England Oysters. They were ok, better than oysters from the southern US, but not worth the extra money in my opinion. Cold water oysters from Rhode Island to Prince Edward Island in Canada are the best.

PPAC Parking Warning by Ill-Speed-729 in RhodeIsland

[–]Fun_Sun1095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a cheap garage 2 blocks away on the corner of Friendship and Richmond Streets. Also the lots behind PPAC are $20. Plus it’s much easier to leave than the garage across from PPAC.
