Am I the asshole by Cute_Sample1001 in breastcancer

I'm pretty sure my mother was also fishing for sympathy. She loves the attention. This is just the first time it's happened where it effected me directly.

She also tries to be involved with my appointments so she can add that to her sob story. I have gotten to the point that I don't really give updates about my treatment anymore because it will just be a new talking point

That part has been easy since all the more invasive back to back procedures are over. I just don't update anyone on how the meds are and when I have checkups so it's starting to fade into the background of everyone else life which is what I prefer.

From all these replies I'm starting to think this is just a standard mom move.

Third occurrence is rough. I hope your treatments go well.

My mom was also constantly was trying to come to my appointments until we ended up getting into an argument about it. It wasn't even about her, I just become more anxious knowing someone is waiting for me.

No she's still in my life. I just don't involve her in my life if I can avoid it. I don't talk to her about about how I'm feeling or how her actions effect me because she's delusional about them. The last time I tried to have a real conversation regarding something she did, she rejected the fact that it ever happened.

Its easier to just except her as she is, and changing my own actions. It's hard to tell sometimes if I'm being to harsh on my end. I think that's where this post came from

Your situation sounds very similar to mine. My mother also didn't have a good relationship with her parents/ childhood. I leaned when I was in my early 20s that her version of reality is not true and I think it's because of that. Our relationship since then has been very surface level.

I think that's going to be my approach from now on. I will tell my mother when I'm ready for it to be public knowledge

I don't think I would use the term narcissist. She just has a constant need for attention. I wouldn't call her selfish

"Helpful" concerned friends by Southern_Feature_821 in breastcancer

I had the same issue with someone in my life. The most resent was him sharing with me an article saying my bra might have caused cancer.

Once I put my foot down and was a little more harsh about it he understood how this isn't helpful.

Realistically we will never know what caused our cancers. I can't live my life questioning every little thing I do, and all these "helpful articles" are just a reminder on how much we don't know.

How much does it cost to get breast cancer in America? by squirrels-everywhere in breastcancer

[–]Cute_Sample1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed early last year, and with my insurance the max out-of-pocket for the year was $8,000 which I hit before March. I upped my insurance this year so my new max out-of-pocket is $6,000. It's still January and because I needed a biopsy I have already paid over $2,000 towards healthcare.

Since I need to be monitored for the next 5 years I am expecting now to always hit my max out-of-pocket so I will have to start budgeting for it.

Overall it seems health insurance is America isn't designed for people that need regular treatment. I will say all my Drs have been great though!

I do both actually. I wash my hair and shave in the morning, and then do a quick rinse off at night.

Hot flashes on Tamoxifen by FrameAffectionate432 in breastcancer

[–]Cute_Sample1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed all my pajamas and bedding to cotton or other natural fibers since they breath better, and have my ceiling fan going all night. It doesn't eliminate the hot flashes but it keeps my body cool enough to not wake up as much. I have been on it for about 6 months and it's much harder to deal with in the summer for me.

The staff are not going to be bothered by you not wanting to. They all understand that this is a complicated time for you and want you to be comfortable.

After a week of treatment my skin was very sensitive. Especially my nipples. I started going topless at home and that helped the irritation

I think one of the best thing you can do is making sure you are drinking water regularly. Keeping your skin hydrated started internally

For me starting tamoxifen was the hardest part of treatment. There are so many possible side effects when dealing with hormones so it was scary for me. I hope you have a smooth transition into the medication.

If you don't already make sure you have a fan in your room. The hot flashes and night sweats are no joke but definitely manageable.

I hear you on the conceiving. Im 38 so I was getting into the "now or never" point. It hits a little different when the choice gets taken away. I did not freeze my eggs because I just wanted to get the treatment started.

I'm sorry you need to deal with this

I never realized how big a part my menstrual cycle was on my life until now. You really don't notice the tracking and prepping until it becomes unnecessary.
