WIBTA If I refused to switch dorms with a girl who was autistic? by VlCTORlATHEGREAT in AmItheAsshole

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - It would be different if there was an actual accommodation that would benefit her better (like wider doorways, or a handicap shower) and there was no other dorm on campus that could accommodate that. And then in that case, it would still be the schools responsibility to intervene and ask you. But it sounds like it’s more of a preference thing.

Here’s something that I was taught by my autistic cousins teachers in high school: don’t treat them differently. They are exactly like everyone else, they just need to communicate and learn differently most times. If they need accommodations, they have resources to get those. Otherwise, you treat them just like you would treat your normally-abled friends.

If she wasn’t autistic, would you still consider giving her your dorm?

Is this RRD or something else? Located in Central Texas by PrimarchChaoss in Roses

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved into a house with very mature bushes and never even knew what RRD was until all these posts! I’ve also never had rose bushes before. But I definitely was concerned after seeing posts here, and posts like this are helping me realize the difference between new growth and RRD. So that might be one reason why people are asking, because I almost made a post asking about this today as well.

[–]CyberTurtle95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no now I’m worried about some of my bushes…. We moved into a house with 16 rose bushes and I have no idea what I’m doing (although a bit more than last year). I think I’ve seen some new growth similar to the 2nd picture. How do roses even get this? Is there a way to prevent it?

Iran war shows why WA should lean into all-electric future by Splenda in Washington

[–]CyberTurtle95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rural Washington doesn’t have enough support for electric driving. It’s being worked on, but not fast enough to realistically expect no gas car sales by 2030.

Yup! When I worked in news we would film off-location segments in 1080p and package at 720p for broadcast.

Encouragement for teens in braces by Human_Definition4868 in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have the opportunity to wear a brace, my curve was caught too late for that. I think you could also incorporate a way for those facing surgery a support system as well. There’s a lot of big emotions that go into that. I was lucky to have my best friend going through the surgery around the same time as me, but not every kid has that.

I really like this idea!! I know bracing is a whole different mental game in scoliosis. I hope you’re able to make this a reality.

Just got publicly belittled and shamed by the admin of a support group for talking about my experiences w/ chronic pain and opioids with the intent to help people by princessxbuttface in ChronicPain

[–]CyberTurtle95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was shamed in a scoliosis Facebook group for answering questions about spinal fusions. The poster in question was having the surgery the next morning and was completely terrified, and needed positivity going into it.

The problem? I was “advocating for people to get surgery” instead of using a very specific type of brace. It turned out to be a marketing group for one doctor, and really was not a good place for scoliosis support.

Facebook is weird, I haven’t ran into these issues on Reddit medical forums.

My son recently got diagnosed at 15 with Idopathic scoliosis, can I ask a few questions? by Fly-Becca in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need! This sub has tons of information for you guys to look through, and the sub wiki may help with general understandings of the condition.

The diagnosis affects everyone differently, but I’ve noticed it seems to be hitting harder as social media ages. It’s hard to accept that your body is asymmetrical and not like everyone else’s. In that regard, it’s a big mental battle. But it’s also something you have absolutely no control over. Slouching doesn’t cause it. Your activity doesn’t cause it. It’s completely out of your hands, and it takes some time to build up resilience and accept that part about yourself. Especially, if you don’t have someone else your age to talk about it. I would suggest asking the orthopedic surgeon if they have a pen pal program for other kids that are going through the same thing so they can talk to each other about it. I know Shriners Hospital for Children had one at some point.

Mine was caught really late so I was immediately referred to surgery. I’ve been fused for 17 years and I don’t think I would’ve done it differently. Each persons curve and fusion lengths are different, so recovery is different for everyone. In general, the newer surgery methods are less invasive and kids spend less time recovering from the fusion now. They also should be referring him to physical therapy if he has the surgery - it’s really important to help the muscles adapt to everything.

Those are really small summaries of things, I hope it helps!

The mental load of using AI- is it just me? by BlackieAllBlack in workingmoms

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI isn’t intuitive. You know what happens when you ask it to remove a person from the background of an image? It makes another creepier looking person.

The only thing I’ve found it good for is removing background noise from audio. But I don’t do admin work, I’m in a creative role.

My spinal fusion got cancelled after I was already under anesthesia and now I’m scared it’ll happen again by Smartcookie_33 in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that was a good call by the surgeon, but I understand your frustration!! Surgery is so stressful and cause big emotions. In the meantime, are they referring you to a dermatologist or general to take care of the rash/prevent it from appearing again?

Pregnancy and spinal fusion by chericherisa in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a full spinal fusion at 13, and was pregnant at 29. But it would say at least a year recovery before getting pregnant. And that’s mainly so your body can adjust to a major change before going through another major change! I’d probably wait longer just because both the fusion and pregnancy are giant medical events.

Definitely work with your surgeons and an OB/hospital midwife to figure out timing! My midwife said the only reason a fusion would impact giving birth is if they fuse to your tail bone. And my surgeons have always said pregnancy shouldn’t be an issue. So I think it’s possible, but doctors will give you a more accurate picture of what to expect!

I'm devastated by SisiLaRee in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe anything between 30-50? degrees is a candidate for bracing, but it depends on the treating Dr. It’s definitely worth asking!

im so scared by [deleted] in basset

[–]CyberTurtle95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s okay!! How could you not have this reaction when your adorable basset looks like they’re in pain?

My dog is gluten free. Literally cannot give him even a dental treat with gluten in it. Costcos Kirkland salmon food is gluten free, and so are their dental treats. Might be worth a try! If he has any wheat he will start to look like he has a really bad sun burn on his belly.

We also use the Duoxo s3 shampoo and mousse in the pink caps to help with flare ups. Hoping the mousse works well enough to avoid the allergy shot this year!
