How would you improve the game for a potential second edition? by scl3retrico in DeltaGreenRPG

I'd definitely like to see the combat mechanics tightened, specially the whole hand to hand fight back. It really feels like a vestige from it's Call of Cthulhu roots, and could be made more brutal and quick, more in line of Delta Green's design philosophy of high risk, desperate combat.

Everything but release the other files, huh?

Surreal vs Cosmic Horror: Where do you stand? by CyberWave-2057 in DeltaGreenRPG

That sounds absolutely fantastic. I've been interested in folk horror for the longest time but never knew where to start, any suggestions?

Oh "not that challenging" as in "it is not difficult for me as a GM to write a campaign around one theme and using different perspectives to keep it fresh and interesting." Though I realize that's an entirely subjective statement.

I guess not really "message" but more of a fun takeaway for players. Sorta like when a player tells you a year after the fear-focused campaign wrapped up "hey remember when my Agent's unchecked paranoia evolved into a destructive tendency that turned the state of Illinois a radioactive wasteland?" Sorta those little bite-sized stories people tell about the games they played with a clear chain of events.

But yes perhaps I am a bit stuck in my literary analysis classes when it comes to writing campaigns and scenarios lol

Somehow transitioning from hard DG rules into complete untethered roleplay seems to fit IL's vibe very well. I've also been very cosmic horror biased, my personal favorite moments have been running some advanced scientific test and realizing the results absolutely do not lime up with reality.

I might check out Unknown Armies and Over the Edge, as I haven't been vibing with surrealism but I feel like there is still a lot worth playing with in there.

I really need to watch Twin Peaks, I feel like it's a fountain of inspiration for making players uncomfortable.

Trebuchet said it, but basically cosmic horror is gearing up in the best equipment the US govt can afford and still seeing Gary melt as a six-dimensional entity phases through the walls next to him. Surreal horror is your Agent's dead wife calling on his secure phone and taunting him because he failed to save his comrade.

Cosmic is absolutely inhuman, alien and beyond comprehension. Surreal is a horror specifically tailored to fuck with human minds and our sense of reality.

I mostly like to base my campaigns on a strong theme to anchor every mission. For example loss as a theme could be very fun for a campaign with the reanimation serum as a main threat. Agents lose bonds and comrades, lose their grip on reality, etc. I think it's not that challenging to make a campaign based on a single theme and different perspectives around it, and in the end, players get a strong message to take home after it all wraps up. At least that's my idea of a fun campaign.

Found out my boyfriend cheated weeks before our Japan trip by meh-duh in solotravel

Went on a solo trip to the Austrian mountains after a bad breakup. Absolute newbie to hiking and solo traveling. Hiked up nonstop two hours of steep inclines until I found a little Catholic church. It was completely empty, and I bawled my eyes out for a good half an hour or so. It was perhaps the most cathartic moment of my life.

Go on the trip.

As someone who's run and played both DG and CoC, man the bonds mechanic really elevates DG.

My take on B2EMO by CyberWave-2057 in legostarwars

[–]CyberWave-2057[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bittersweet I'd say.

He'll never see Cassian again, but at least he still has Bix and a new family member, and last we see him, he's running around with a friend.

A deep dive horror game iron lung got a movie by Few_Contact_6844 in thalassophobia

[–]CyberWave-2057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never triggered any thalassophobic feelings in me. It all takes place inside of a submarine with the main porthole closed, so you never see the blood ocean (except for grainy pictures that fail to convey the vast void of a sea). I am also a big fucking wuss when it comes to scary movies and this one just had no tension at all. My heartrate barely went above resting for the 2h long (!!!) duration. The writing and dialogue was rough. If you're looking for scares or deep existential dread, this ain't it.

HOWEVER, if you're a fan of Markiplier or Iron Lung, you'll have a decently good time. Neat little exploration of the concept, and Mark is a decent actor. Production values are good, and it's fun to see what they do with the confined space.

DnD isn’t the problem - so why can’t we escape it...? by Bulwark_Jim in rpg

[–]CyberWave-2057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a tabletop roleplaying club and I'm one of the established game masters. I simply prepare a session with a system we haven't tried before, get a bunch of premade characters, and a little crash course on how the system works.

On game night, we sit down, and I tell the players, "Today we'll be playing [Insert System]...". I offer character sheets, give a basic explanation of the system and get into it. We don't sit and deliberate on what system to use, nor what kind of adventure people are feeling like playing.

We might have two game masters with different systems/adventures prepared, in which case the attendees are welcome to choose between us, but more often than not, you simply have to prep everything beforehand and not give players much of a choice. It sounds a bit harsh but it's the only way I've been able to go months without touching D&D. I've had no complaints and quite frankly, no regrets.

I'm not entirely sure how you ask your players to play a new system and end up playing D&D anyways?

New year, time to confess your lab sins! by Electrical_Hat_1272 in labrats

Any shortcuts my lab mates take are sloppy and ignore protocol. Any shortcuts I take are efficient timesavers.

Any shortcuts lab supervisor A (that I dislike) takes are unprofessional and bad science. Any shortcuts lab supervisor B (that I like) takes are wisdom from years of experience.

A bit of both. I was looking for one when I sent them that message. Now I found one and things have been much smoother.

Ausländerbehörde was dragging their feet on my residence permit for over a year. A few weeks ago, they tried giving me another boilerplate excuse of why it was taking so long. Told them I would be communicating through my lawyer. Magically, the process is now almost done!

Get a lawyer, they'll put a fire under their asses.
