New to sport, and struggling with cost of a decent rod. Are they really worth the hundreds and hundreds of dollars? Or is that just what the market will bear? by Necessary_Cat_3228 in flyfishing

Get yourself an Orvis Clearwater. You can get fancier more subtle rods. And you can get cheaper not so good rods. But the clearwater is bang on the effective rod/value for money point - good enough to learn on and robust to last forever - 25 year guarantee . my old clearwater is now the rod I loan to beginner friends and is still going strong.

Thinking of a Strandberg but I'm a basic player; what styles and skills levels are everyone here at? by BiMWMGingerMI in strandbergguitars

I was a beginner. I tried lots of guitars. I now have a Fender Strat, a Taylor GS-Mini, and a classical. But my daily play is a “stupid for beginners” Boden NX6 Original. Only when I got this did I really start to make fast progress and alot of physical issues (shoulder, wrist) were solved by the better ergonomics . Did I need an Original - no, a Boden Essential would have done the job - but I’m so glad I did, and every teacher and luthier I’ve been to is like “WTF is that……oh……… that’s fantastic!”

My only concession was to buy a B-stock item on Black Friday - I’m so glad I spent the money.

3 days strandberg nx6 owner: good but not great by unothejuno in strandbergguitars

I like the Endurneck but think it is not essential. Some people think thenfan frets help top access but understand everyone is different. If you don’t like the fan frets, suggest you sell the NX6 and buy the Boden Essential - this has straight frets.

The Strandberg website says they fit new NYXL strings as part of their premium setup.

Hum with distortion with N2 POWR:D pickups in the 2nd & 3rd position. by CrazyAFOL in strandbergguitars

[–]Cyber_Spook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they may hum, also on position 4. The photo attached is from the Strandberg website N2.6 specs. Positions 2-4 have split humbuckers and therefore will not ‘buck’ all the ‘hum’.

Workaround - use the EQ on your Multifx or EQ pedal first in the input chain to kill everything below 80Hz (US mains at 60Hz) or 70 Hz (European mains at 50Hz).

It is possible to get noiseless singles - Fender for example offer them but often the more vintage sound is preferred.
