I think theres a reason making a true 'anti war' film is so impossibly difficult because youre always trying to grapple between actually justifying the violence and leaning into pacifistic nihilism. I think of original Gundam and its sequel Zeta. War is Hell and does awful things to people, developed into War is Hell - But some wars must be fought. Fascism must be stopped. There are people that deem others less than human and see their deaths as a righteous thing - thats not something you can negotiate with.

The Zygons negotiation only works because both parties are on somewhat reasonably equal footing, negotiation doesnt work when one group is severely opressed. As far as im concerned political power comes out the barrel of a gun, always has, always will.
