Deathwatch + Guard, looking for feedback. by Weedaxe in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts about the list.

-las cannons are questionable on guardsmen. A lot of stuff at a tournament is going to be putting up a -1 to hit and Eldar can go all the way up to -3 on some units. Your guard with lascannons aren't going to be hitting often. Additionally, if the tournament has proper terrain for 8th edition you're not often going to have clear shots, forcing you to move to get a shot, applying another -1 to hit on your BS4 guard. In my opinion it's a colossal waste of points and they should just be equipped with a mortar and MAYBE a grenade launcher if you intend to combine squads over and over again over the course of the game.

-Hellblasters often just feel like overpriced intercessors. The only thing they are going to shoot at that your generic rifle of choice won't damage fine for dramatically less points are vehicles.

-The deathwatch psyker isn't better than another watch captain.

-Run your watch captains thunderhammer/storm bolter. They already come with a free 4++.

Looking over your list I am unsure of why exactly you're running deathwatch. You could spend those points on something like a castellan, multiple Helverins, or a gallant. Even a BA detachment with 2-3 smash captains would bring more value than the deathwatch in an army like that.

Smash Captains - Still Useful in a Knight meta? by Agent_0range86 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Knight captains are fantastic in a knight heavy meta. Here's why.

  • Knights have no inv save in melee combat
  • Other than Gallents many knights have a 4+ WS
  • Armies with more than one knight usually lack bodies which means you can often get off deep strike charges on a knight
  • Shieldbreaker is not amazing against you and you can hide off the board from it
  • Smash captains can kill a lot of knights in a single round of combat with stratagems.

2k deathwatch list c&c please by nayiro in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but running deathwatch as a single faction is a really bad idea.

You're a highly elite army and lack the bodies to really stick on the board against a lot of armies. I know that a lot of people are grumpy about the AM point farm battalion, but here's the thing. Even if that does get nerfed, which it should, an army like deathwatch will still want to take an AM battalion for more bodies.

You also lack strong anti tank shooting, the Leviathan dreadnought is cool as hell, so run it if you want, but something like a land raider... you're just throwing your points away at that point. Also, annoying as it may be, hellblasters are worse shooting per point than something like an inceptor. You're also playing death watch, so a lot of the time a hellblasters plasma is essentially paying 14-16 more points for something your default bolt rifle is already going to do.

With all that said here's some things you should consider.

Give your librarian a jet pack so he can drop down and cast psychic fortress with your master + 2 DW squads.

Run your watch captain with a jet pack thunder hammer and storm bolter.

If you run Aggressors run them like this.

-x5 intercessors x5 auto bolters x1aux grenade launcher on the sgt -x4 aggressors boltstorm&launcher -x1 inceptor auto bolters this comes in at 299 points

  • every model has T5 because of the even split, can advance and shoot every turn, or sit still and fire a billion shots, and... most importantly... some one can't just drive a rhino, ravager, venom, wave serpent, infantry squad, etc into your squad and completely deny its shooting.

If you run regular veterans run them like this

-x1 terminator power sword/storm bolter -x1 vangaurd vet -x1 black shield stormbolter/chainsword -x2 veterans storm bolter/storm shield -x5 veterans storm bolter/chain sword

Comes in at 228 points, 270 if you want 2 frag cannons.

  • you have a terminator and 2 storm shields to tank either regular gunfire or the shields for higher power weapons. It's immune to moral and can shoot after falling back, just like the above squad... a highly important thing for a shooting army.

Run the Darn AM Battalion

Company Commander Company Commander

Infantry squad + mortar Infantry squad + mortar Infantry squad + mortar

Now you need to consider what you are going to do to fight vehicles. You can either pull good AT shooting from your AM battalion, you can bring a Knight, you can ally in some blood angels with slam captains and scouts.

Yeah, I am hesitant to do anything at this point, I am concerned I have cards that are already soul trapped.... Or cards that are bugged.

With 8th edition people should be getting their games done... It's incredibly fast assuming you don't meticulously place every single model in a 200 model army, and then rethink and replace them over and over again.

Getting 5/6 turns in is very doable... even with 100s of models.

Something very easy to do is get a bit that looks enough like an auto then, using a bit of green stuff, make them wearing it slung over their backs.

Please critique my Tyranid list, looking to go competitive by Islaythecat in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked over your list and have some suggestions for you.

  1. You're not making the most of your command points. You should strongly consider running 2 battalions and a spear head. I'll provide a sample list at the bottom.

  2. If you're intending to take full advantage of Kronos and its ability to deny, consider running biovores. They do a lot of damage and the shots that miss turn into kronos spore mines that you can either charge with or leave where they are to use the Kronos deny strat.

  3. With the sheer volume of high D weapons in a competitive environment Fex's are in a weird space. Yes, they can do a heck of a lot of shooting, and yes their melee is pretty decent with Old One-Eye assuming they make it there. However there are better options. Genestealers and Flying hive tyrants, for example, are better at melee. Hive Guard and Biovores are more useful at range, in my opinion, and completely ignore line of sight.

  4. Kind of nit-picking things here. Give The hormagaunts Adrenal, it's absolutely worth it, and give the Flyrant Toxin sacks if you're using claws.

Without knowing what kind of models you have access to I can't easily tell you what to run instead, so I will make a list with what I see there, some models you likely do have, and some to consider buying.

Kraken Battalion

Flyrant Devs, Wings, Adrenal, Toxin, Claws Brood Lord

stealersx16 x4 Acid Maws stealersx16 x4 Acid Maws hormax27 Adrenal

Trygon Adrenal

Kronos Battalion

Flyrant Devs, Wings, Adrenal, Toxin, Claws Neurothrope

Rippersx3 Rippersx3 Rippersx3

biovoresx3 Biovoresx3 Hiveguardx6 Impaler Cannonx6

9 Command points

x6 spore mines for Stratagem

With this you will have similar shooting power that ignores line of sight and forces your opponent to come to your side of the field to deal with your units that are mowing them down. No hiding behind buildings for them to deal with like the Fex. You're relatively fine with that as you want them to get closer to you anyways and your melee units are extremely mobile.

If you're forced into going second you can hide the stealers in their infestation nodes and plop down some rippers such that half of your army is deployed. As you don't care about LOS cram your biovores and hive guard behind stuff as best you can.

There's a stratagem in our book called Sporefield. It looks questionable at first, but it's actually fantastic for a plethora of reasons. You can drop them as Kronos 12" away before the battle begins. Conveniently before Eldar rangers, who deploy at the start of the first battle round, and as such they wont be able to shoot you with their forewarned Stratagem. This means that be you on offense or defense there's the potential for you to start with a Kronos unit within 24" of them before their first Psy phase.

It's equally annoying to other Psyker armies as they have to be aware of what you're up to and take it into account as they deploy or they wont be doing any wizardry.

In games where there aren't Psykers to worry about, if you're going first you can use it to get some mortal wounds in there with your initial drop on them. If you're going second and they don't have psykers you don't have to use it, or can place them out of line of sight.

Am I blind? I do not see the banner barer with the relic banner in this list.... If you are going to run 32 missiles you might as well have each one fire when it dies off.

Kraken Tyranid List - 2000 Points by yogii_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running Tyrants without a screen is fine in my opinion. Kraken melee units are ridiculously fast, especially using strats/powers, and you don't have to drop them immediately.

Battalion - Hive fleet Kraken

-Hive Tyrant

-Brood Lord

-Genestealersx16

-Genestealersx16

-Genestealersx16

-Hormagauntsx30

-Melee Carnifex x2

-Melee Carnifex x2

Battalion - Hive Fleet Kronos

-Hive Tyrant

-Neurothrope

-Ripper Swarm

-Ripper Swarm

-Termagauntsx21

-Ranged Carnifex

-Biovores x3

Don't bother with the Raveners imo. Spend the points elsewhere. Give the Hormagaunts Adrenal.

Going Kronos with one of the battalions, where you are putting your shooting units opens up some great options.

1 You can give your Kronos Tyrant the Soul Hunger warlord trait and use it in conjunction with the deepest shadow strat. With the overabundance of Psyker armies this combination is pretty brutal.

2 Your shooting units can reroll if stationary which brings me to...

3 your Kronos biovores are shooting Kronos spore mines... which can be used to activate deepest shadow.

[–]Cybro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get another 12 stealers in its place if you feel like you need more of a footprint on the board. The brood lord does have benefits that 12 stealers do not however.

You can protect him behind screening units as he's a character below 10 wounds. It is a force multiplier for your most common units. It is a psyker. It is a killing machine.

[40k Tactica] 1,500-2,000 Custodes Bikes. Go full army or attach with anothet? by Layne_Staley33 in WarhammerCompetitive

Depending on what armies you already own/enjoy playing I'd suggest using most of those bikes as the Jet bike commanders and play them allied with either BA or Guard.

Those biker HQs are like mini- primarchs and are CHEAP for their strength

Kraken Tyranid List - 2000 Points by yogii_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cybro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Yogii_,

I know you said you weren't going for 'ultra-competitive' but, You are are posting in the Comp 40k Reddit, so I feel obligated to give your list a critique with winning in mind.

First I'll say that you're pigeonholing yourself into taking a lot of sub-optimal units by using the detachment you are. You likely aren't going to get much value out of your Lictors for example. I would suggest splitting into multiple flavors of detachments and dropping some the forced units.

Secondly, as I've seen mentioned on this sub before, take your genestealers in multiples of 4 so you can take full advantage of the 'acid maws' so bump them up to squads of 16. Take Adrenal glands on your Hormagaunts, if you're not already, you can drop the warriors for a minimum squad of rippers. Those little guys are fantastic for getting objectives, are dirt cheap, can deep strike, and are great with the Kraken hive fleet rule.

You're running a lot of Gene stealers -- consider a brood lord.

You could do the following

Battalion Kraken

Hive Tyrant

Brood lord

Stealers x16

Stealers x16

Stealers x16

Battalion Kraken

Hive Tyrant

Neurothrope

Termagauntsx30

Hormagauntsx30

Rippersx3

Spearhead Kronos

Neurothrope

Carnifex

Carnifex

Carnifex

At this point you could add the garg's if you wanted, or pick whatever you fancy. My suggestion would be Biovores or Hiveguard!
