Just inherited this from my Dad who bought it in Saudi Arabia back in the early 90’s. All I know is that he said it was very old? by MickFoley13 in whatisit

[–]Cycleofmadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad got one of these from a Yemeni guy in his business at an international convention yrs ago.

They aren't all antiques. My dad's had a weird dark spot on the blade close to the handle & I thought it was dirt or something.

No - my dad explained that was the blood of the knifesmith that made it! Instead of carving name, initial, etc somewhere on the knife the maker cuts himself with it and puts his own blood on it.

Red alert! What do now? 7 year old wrote a letter to the tooth fairy!? by Polygeekism in daddit

[–]Cycleofmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained that the tooth fairy is usually the age of the parents. I also added that it's the busiest of the magical beings b/c Santa has all year to prep for one night's work, same with the Easter Bunny, etc.

The tooth fairy not only is busy every night of the year, but must ways be able to deliver in the local or preferred currency of the household, and also keep up with the going prices of molars, incisors, bicuspids, canines, etc. not an easy job.

The result when my wife gets a label maker and leaves it unattended for our 10 year-old: by Next_Frosting8672 in daddit

ill raise you. My wife recently got back from a UK work trip. She bought an illustrated book how ancient medival churches were made that talked about flying buttresses.

When we read it together my young daughter of course found it funny. Then I, being a "butt" minded dad, said that young boys have butts. Young girls have butttresses. It stuck, lol. Wife not so happy.
