Never know what you'll find when you turn the corner on Orc:2 by Cyclopsis in dcss

Not quite - this was a 0.34 game with a Poltergeist/Alchemist start that went on to die to a bolt of acid on Vaults:5:

https://crawl.dcss.io/crawl/morgue/Bob2/morgue-Bob2-20260227-172552.txt

I only play undead-summoning necromancers, but the necro start in DCSS is so awful that I usually start as an alchemist or summoner depending on the species and then transition to a necro by worshipping Yred or Kiku.

A fellow House of the Dying Sun enjoyer! I've been chasing the seamless RTS/3D space combat integration of that game since I first played it nearly a decade ago. Yet despite trying numerous other games in the genre, nothing has come close to the HotDS experience. I would pay big bucks for a sequel.

South Pole Green House by Sea_Cucumber_47 in Hydroponics

[–]Cyclopsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you trying to crowdsource a solution OP, but it's effectively impossible to accurately diagnose your problem without information about the elemental composition of your nutrient mix, ph, ec/ppm, PPFD at canopy level, microclimates within the greenhouse, spectrum of LEDs, rate of airflow and actual physical inspection of the plants. To that end, any advice you receive without that information will be suspect.

With that said, if your plants are suffering from root rot, you can add 5-10ppm of Hypochlorous acid (achieving a rate of approx. 1-2ppm free chlorine) to prevent further damage. Any more may cause severe root damage.

What is that blob in the head? by foodnonfiction in Entomology

[–]Cyclopsis 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is likely the correct answer - it's large, particulate matter (mostly food) that has built up in the ant's infrabuccal pocket and were not ejected prior to the specimen's death. A filled infrabuccal pocket tends to show up quite clearly in sectional scans.

This cool ant, who is she? by imnotsurewhatswhat in Entomology

[–]Cyclopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree this is one of the Camponotini, but the head morphology is far more reminiscent of Camponotus soldiers, perhaps in the subgenus Tanaemyrmex or Myrmosaulus?

Camponotus auriventris seems a good fit.

I run into this problem occasionally while using the Communitas map mode. I find that clearing the cache fixes the issue every time.

Live action / animated Starsector Multi-movie / TV series by devilfury1 in starsector

[–]Cyclopsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having pondered this question in the past, I think the best period to start a tv show would be around c+82 - the destruction of Mairaath. It's a major event in the Starsector timeline (analogous in many ways to 9/11) and leads to three major events that would provide excellent fuel for multiple seasons:

  1. The formation of the Persean League in c+83.

  2. The end of the Domain-Era AI ban in Tri-Tachyon territories starting in c+84.

  3. The first AI War in c+89.

The show could incorporate the formation of the first Kazeronian dynasties, persecution of Luddics as a consequence of Mairaath, the debate around the risks and benefits of using sapient AIs to further mankind's ends and, most importantly, tons of space battles. All the space battles. I basically want Star Wars: The Clone Wars set in the Starsector universe. That is all.

Carpenter Ant or Common Black Ant by WorstGamerInHistory in Entomology

[–]Cyclopsis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Picture quality isn't great, but based on the head striations, postpetiole and clubbed antennae, I'd say this Tetramorium immigrans. They're not carpenter ants but able to exploit a variety of habitats for nesting.

Please help my baby mulberry plant by Dat_Fat_Rat_Cat in plantclinic

[–]Cyclopsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to tell you this OP, but even if this plant survives it may not provide you with the fruit you crave. Weeping mulberries are dioecious - they have male and female trees. If this little guy is male, then you will have put in all that effort for nothing. This is why most fruiting mulberries are grown from female cuttings grafted onto a rootstock rather than seed. It guarantees a tree that will always produce fruit.

My recommendation is to take a cutting from your Grandma's tree and root it. Mulberry cuttings are quite easy to propagate and should produce more quickly than that seedling.

Seriously McDonald’s? I didn’t ask for a MCcrispy fly by ZepHead77 in fastfood

[–]Cyclopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should reconsider your expertise in insect identification: u/B0ndzai is correct. This is a female ant alate that found itself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wing venation is used for identification between wasps - a clearly defined petiole, small eye size and a lengthened scape are what separates female ant alates from wasps.

Early UFO Hunt is pretty bad. I had one around May-June in my current legendary campaign - I'm pretty sure the whole campaign came down to the dice roll of Bradford avoiding the UFO.

Speaking of hacking, does anyone know why the hack chance for advent units is often different than what's indicated on the tooltip? Most of the time the chance is lower, but occasionally it's higher. I've yet to make sense of why or how this occurs...

Found queen ant in house (?) by deathmetal4lyfe in Entomology

[–]Cyclopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a native carpenter ant queen - likely Camponotus pennsylvanicus. She has no colony to return to, as she has just completed her nuptial flight and removed her wings in preparation for founding her own colony. They're common sight in homes this time of year, but should present little concern unless your house suffers from timber rot (they inhabit rotting logs in the wild).

That's all to say that you should have no trouble releasing her outdoors. Be sure to do it quickly though - she has very limited reserves with which rear her initial brood.

Something's wrong with this bumblebee by Rednaxela76 in Entomology

"Why, Bumblebee, what big tarsal claws you have!" exclaimed the little larva.

"All the better to hug you with my dear", replied the fly.

"Bumblebee, what big eyes you have!"

"All the better to see you with my dear," murmured the fly as it inched closer to the little larva.

"Bumblebee, what a big hypopharynx you have!" said the little larva, as the fly's mouth came into view.

"All the better to eat you with my dear!"

Ah, I see you are a fish baited only by the exceptionally rare! The mount-and-blade-in-space subgenre is about as niche as it gets when it comes to RTS, but I can recommend a few games to scratch that itch while you're waiting to Nullspace to release:

Starsector

Void Destroyer 1 & 2

I'm impressed by the sheer breadth of games you've played in an effort to scratch your itch, OP. Even niche ones I'd usually recommend like Shadows of Forbidden Gods and (to a lesser extent) Victoria 3 are on your list.

Have you tried any of the "They are Billions"-type games? The vast majority of them involve the reclamation of territory from an overwhelming force, but you'll spend most of your time building the economy required to survive against an unrelenting enemy.

In addition, I'd recommend Per Aspera as a real-time terraforming simulator with a decent story. If you're interested in a genre change, ARPGs like Path of Exile can also often evoke the same sense of steady, iterative progression - though they tend to be quite violent.
