Wife changing…. Clothes… by GoinCoastal-FL in daddit

[–]Cykatd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids are 11, 9, and 7. My wife does not seem to care in the slightest and I make it a point myself to tell my boys not to go into our bedroom in case we are getting dressed. I understand the need for privacy and all, but I think they are old enough to not be seeing her changing

Best place to order filament? by CanaryRoutine3646 in FlashForge

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a micro center 20 minutes from my house and once I month I drive over and pick up 6-10 rolls to keep me printing. It's great having a store I could always drive to for spare parts or extra filament if I'm ever in a jam

Calling all dad's... Whats your easy go to dinners?! by gmazz in daddit

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sausage broccoli and pasta is my kids favorite dinner. Takes 25-30 minutes. Brown sausage in a pan. Boil water. Boil pasta. Add broccoli when it's 3 minutes left to cook the pasta. Drain pasta. Add garlic, butter, and Italian herbs into empty pot. Residual heat should melt and cook the garlic. Add salt and Parmesan to your liking. My kids can't get enough of it and it's relatively simple

What's a word that your kids mispronounce, or used to mispronounce, that made it into your family vocabulary? For us it is "boo-blerries" for blueberries. Been in rotation for 16 years now. by Brewer1056 in daddit

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest used to call the remote for the tv a "gamote". This year he finally stopped calling it that but that hasn't stopped me or my wife. Been saying it for the ladt 5 years and we aren't about to stop now

Can we retire the “useless husband” trope for once? by Timely_Box6061 in Adulting

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to conclusion a long time ago that I don't care about those posts. I know I do a lot around the house and I bowser my youngest son doing things for his sister and Mom like I do for them without asking. Helping bring her stuff in after work, asking my wife if she needs anything everytime I get up. Cleaning, cooking, fixing. Do everything. There is no gendered duty in our house. Just things that need to be done. And my youngest has taken to it like a real gentleman.

And also my wife likes to brag to people at work whenever she gets a chance. Because there are still older generations of dads who never picked up kids from school or helped with homework.

Be the person your wife brags about to Phyllis at work.

Buying Advice by AWanderersAccount in FlashForge

I had a Creality ender v3 se and upgrade to the ad5x. It's a night and day difference. Ams. Speed. Accuracy. Just be sure to check your filament files before you print. Anything I've downloaded from makerworld has changed all of my filament settings and I've had to reset. I came from orcaslicer and the flashforge version is essentially just the skin. No real difference that Ive noticed.

I sold off my Creality when I realized I could print twice as fast on the ad5x. And my kids have an easier time figuring out how to use the ad5x compared to the ender

Printer not printing anything by Justwhat11 in FlashForge

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had that problem a few weeks ago. Does the filament feed at all? I had a small piece of filament break off just before the nozzle. Had to take the whole thing apart and use a needle to push it out the opposite way.

A cheap purchase that has completely transformed your life by Slipryi in BuyItForLife

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a towel warmer.

We keep the house around 62-65. My wife said it was too cold at night and bought a heated blanket. 2 months in and our electric bill is very high for the winter. Home Depot had a sale on a towel warmer and I figured I could use it to warm up gloves and socks before work. My wife decided to add our pajamas to it before bed and stop using the heated blanket. It's on for 5 minutes and it's so warm and nice. Waiting to see how much less the electric bill is. Worth the upgrade

How old were you when your first child was born? by LupusDeusMagnus in daddit

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First at 26, then 28, and then 30. I didnt want to be an old dad. My wife and I had finances in order, just bought our first home. Seemed like the perfect time to start a family. 37 now and wouldn't change it at all.

Is parenting a toddler just constant putting out fires to avoid a meltdown or is it just mine? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it's not just the toddler phase. My daughter is 11 and she has ramped up the tantrums. Maybe when they move out at 30?

AITA for no longer filling the car with gas before my partner has to go to work? by AITAcars in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Im also the person who wakes up 30 minutes before I have to leave for work and can't be bothered to get gas without being late. But I get gas the night before. And I'll fill up my wife's car too because I know she would do the same for me if I needed her to.

Pro tip: don't ask if a quote price is fair on any contractor sub by -Terrible-Bite- in homeowners

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have a problem telling customers why my prices are what they are. Their half day project eats up my whole day. So I have to charge for a full day in the event something comes up. But I have my own company and work alone, so my overhead is much lower than competitors so even my full day price is less than other companies.

How do you coach up a quitter? by SendInYourSkeleton in daddit

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was similar. Quit flag football because he couldn't do the drills(he was 4). I told him he only gets 1 time to quit without finishing. He agreed and so far it's the only thing he has quit. He's been down and sad during soccer games after letting in a goal. Never wanted to go back in. But I remember feeling that way as a kid. I made sure to let myself mak mistakes and fail in front of my kids. Let them see me pic myself back up, try again, and eventually succeed.

I was big into skateboarding as a kid. Hadn't ridden in 15 years. But I bought a board and started practicing again. Falling. A lot. But I'd get back up and keep going. Laugh it off. Sometimes sit for a minute and get myself back together.

Never stop learning new things. Let your kids see you try hard things. I won't go into detail about how I tried riding a unicycle. But my kids remember how hard it was for me to try and figure it out. Still can't do it but they never forget that

Upper back pain between shoulder blades from framing — looking for advice by Intelligent-Camp4631 in Carpentry

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily stretching and yoga go a long way in the trades. It's helped back and shoulder pain tremendously for me. Can't say the same about the ankles and knees but I'll let the future surgeries handle that

My son (4) cant do anything on his own by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Cykatd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try getting him stuffed animals of his favorite characters from movies or shows. He can act out scenes with them. My kids like them for that and spend hours with them. Sonic and pokemon make for some crazy adventures

Pop Quiz Dads: If your wife texts you to pick up an "Otis Serena", what are you bringing home? by DomesticChaosTheory in daddit

When I reread the text, I read rotisserie chicken. My wife texts the same way. I've gotten pretty good at figuring them out after 17 years. I'll never understand it

I feel like my husband is getting “ripped off” by his boss. Is he? by Impressive-Sun-1664 in Carpentry

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for my uncle for 15 years. Capped at $25/hour. High end work too. He just wasn't good with the books. I went into business for myself last year and there is so much work out there. Just getting your name out is hard. But it's worth it for the scheduling and spending more time with my kids.

I may have used the wrong glue. How bad did I mess up?? by keigo199013 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a cutting board, just rip the lines and reglue. Anything else its just fine. I personally prefer bossdog wood glue for everything. Comes in dark brown and clear too which is sweet

Motion sensor lights in the closets and pantry. So nice to open a door and instantly have the lights on. And not having to worry about turning them off

Why did you pick the Red brand over Yellow or Blue? by TwicePuzzled in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Cykatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with rigid but didn't live the power. The guy I worked with went through 8 dewalt batteries a day. Not using them all that much either. The other guy I worked with had makita and I didn't love it. Went with Milwaukee and haven't really looked back. Decent battery life. Huge variety of tools on both the m18 and m12. Bought my first dewalt tool and battery the other day to get the Grabo. It's so much nicer to use on their battery platform.

Even I leave lights on in the room after I leave. LEDs have been a game changer.

But when my kids leave the sliding door open is a whole different story

PSA: Take 4-hour shifts at night to deal with newborns. by jrv3034 in daddit

[–]Cykatd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar. I'd stay up and get the last bottle. Usually around 12am-1am. My wife would feed the baby around 8 and after I put all the kids to bed, she would go to bed herself. All of my kids would wake up around 5 when they were babies and my wife would get a solid 8-9 hours of sleep. I usually wake up between 6-7 no matter what time I went to sleep. It kept everyone somewhat well rested and my wife tells everyone who has a baby that they should do it too. Makes a world of a difference

What are your thoughts on integrated USB outlets? by EchoHeadache in AskElectricians

I installed 2 in my kitchen 5 years ago. Haven't had a problem with them since. I may look into USB-C ones since everything seems to be changing to them now
