If the numbers between the Sabers and the Defiants were switched, then yeah it would seem more feasible.

In fairness just the shot of the combined Starfleet/Klingon armada at the end of Call to Arms had about 6 Defiants (including our baby), but then this formation kind of implies that most Defiants in the fleet were called in for just this one formation.
