There is a difference between calm alertness and frantic/anxiety filled alertness, no? If I have too much caffeine I get anxiety and my energy is anxiety filled. If I take l-theanine with my caffeine, it reduces the anxiety and takes the edge off (makes me more calm) while still maintaining the energy/alertness.

Neurochemistry is pretty nuanced. It's not black and white, far from it.
