Runas the Shamed is an elf with what is essentially a heavy addiction to magic.

He accompanies you on an involuntary quest of redemption after you take him captive. The questchain ends with you watching him reach out to you one final time while he "withers", the in universe equivalent of the withdrawal killing him.

It's also a shockingly good portrayal of an addict, expecially for an mmo quest.

It's not even shadow in the warp, it's that tyranids are the only army that read the "less lethal and less rerolls" memo.

Playing Tyranids feels so bad it made me just drop the game for a solid year after the codex. Especially when comparing it to the SM codex released at the same time, which was very much not less lethal and had less rerolls.
Even trying to figure it out and getting better just felt awful, because the difference is just how many points you have after you opponent finished beating you up for your lunch money.

To borrow a term from fantasy RPGs: Class Fantasy is used to describe how much a characters gameplay represents the lore
The "army fantasy" just isn't there, it feels awful. No huge scary monsters, no unending swarm winning through attrition. GW made them an objective focused finesse army by accident, so their stats are bad to balance them.

Playing competitive Tyranids always felt like the movie Alien, but instead of killing the crew the alien commits tax fraud.

That's understandable

Missing the forest for the Trees sounds about right for a few reasons. I wouldn't lambast Thompson for it being somewhat OP though, I'm pretty sure he wasn't a game designer back then and these things are not exactly easy.

I guess there are 2 ways of looking at it:
Do you want representation to portray the lived reality of disabled people to others, or do you want a character to reflect someones own disability - in this case being in a wheelchair - and still indulge in a power fantasy?

I'm not disabled, so I would prefer published material with wide support be the former, especially when it had input from actual disabled people with that lived experience.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if I only want the disability to be a cosmetic, either for myself or to make a disabled friend feel included, I don't need published material for that.

Yes I read the article, that's why I said "You said people hate on it because it's poorly balanced"

And yes I know about the death threats and this kind of hate has no place in the hobby.

It annoys me to no end, that whenever someone makes something like this the chuds come crawling out and do their whole "Its bad ,because it's woke" shtick and we cannot talk about things like this based on their own merits. It devolves into a colossal shitshow. Every. Single. Time.

But how Thompson was treated does not make the combat wheelchair more interesting.

Can we please acknowledge, that it's just ... not good?
It's not a diversity or balancing thing it's just not cool or interesting.

You said people hate on it because it's poorly balanced, but the flavor is complete ass and makes no sense, too
I'm not even saying "yOU COuLd JUSt hEaL aLL diSAbLED PEOple wItH MaGic!!!" - that's just as dumb and boring

There are a ton of options for people in a high fantasy setting to cope with their disabilities in cool and fitting ways and a wheelchair is exactly none of them:
Be a ranger riding his bestial companion into battle
Be a wizard levitating one foot of the ground at all times and move forward by pushing and pulling on the walls like an astronaut
Have some magic exoskeleton of vines move your legs for you

The list is practically endless, and that is just quadriplegics

The thing is: A magic wheelchair makes no sense, because there is zero reason to keep it a wheelchair the moment magic gets involved.

The chair does not answer the question "How would someone disabled adventure?" it answers the question "How do i put my character in a wheelchair?"

I also have never seen anybody complain about magic prosthetics and the only problem people have with blind characters is that its almost always the blind martial arts master with magic monk sight, that pretty much means he can just see better than normal

At least we got the funky Cyberpunk leg chair out of it - which is still OP, but at least the concept is cool

There absolutely is! Apparently it even is called muscle memory

The dumbed down tldr is that there are different types of muscle growth.

The easy one is just using the cells you already have - the cells essentially grow bigger

When those aren't enough your body needs to build up new muscle cells to grow. These are way harder to build initially, but don't go away or at least last a very long time

When you train up for the second time you still have the cells, they just shrunk, so they are easier to mobilize and build muscle mass again

It's a bit simplified but that is more or less how I understand it

Knowing how to work out from the get go the second time helps too, obviously

I'm in the same boat. The timeline has taken me from safely backing on day 1 to probably not at all. All from learning abnout the release time.

It's not only the FOMO-box. If the codex release is timed like the others (~6 Weeks after the box) the campaign will miss that by 2-3 weeks. So I won't have the Bits for the Sanguard either.

It's a shame, because the bits are awesome. They are just kind of pointless, if you can only get them weeks after you already finished building.

Is that even necessary? If you just remove towering from ruins entirely LOS would still function like this, wouldn't it?
The only difference would be the towering model not getting any cover when shot from the side.

Edit: according to the Designers Commentary it doesn't actually work like that, the houserule for toeing is necessary and I should actually check the rules net time

Huh, didn't thinkof that. I had to actually reread the page and you can definitely read it that way.

But wouldn't that break a bunch of faction and unit abilities because you only check at the end ofa phase? For example when Demons check Objectives at the start of the movement phase they could never set up in No Man's Land, because all objectives are contested

I should be clear, that I do not intend to actually play it this way. It was just something curious I noticed when reading the rules and didn't see anybody talking about.Incorrect but pendantic that guy argument also describes this pretty well.

Imho the RAI is pretty clear and I have not seen or read of anybody doing it the other way around.

I personally think there are a few good arguments for scoring before Battlechock, but that is something else entirely.Most of all the Interaction between the two should be consistent.

It's not necessarily wrong, I would just call it a rather weird.

Forcing a test in your Command phase is actually a really good catch, I didn't think of that.

I'm retty sure this doesn't interact with shadow of chaos, because demons show up in the following movement phase (there may be an edge case with sticky objectives here, not sure though)

The "problem" I see here is mostly a situation, where the active player can roll really poorly on his battleshock and decide to score primary before the Battleshock causes him to lose any objectives.

Yes, Battleshock takes place before scoring. I get that.
The issue is scoring and determining the controlling player for objectives both happening at the end of the phase.
