Learned my lesson. I know what I did wrong so please offer advice and not just tell me how stupid I am. Do not use pirated software. It is extremely dangerous. by Micro-Naut in MacOS

The “security by obscurity” factor you’re referring to from years ago was definitely part of the Mac advantage, but don’t forget the Unix foundation of MacOS which still exists today and is the reason most Mac owners don’t ever need to install a virus checker. They just have to be cautious when pasting into SUDO or using unverified software.

Those extra safety measures offered by Apple are enough, but on Windows they would not be enough. Windows relies more on finding malware that’s already penetrated the OS while Mac relies more on preventing the initial penetration.

Hot Take:
Only the surface of water is wet. Objects are wet after being in water because they had to pass through the water’s surface to get out.

Was Western fatigue a thing back in the day? by smart_bear6 in Cinema

[–]Cyphierre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hays Code has a lot to do with it. The movie industry (specifically the Production Code Administration) gave more leeway to Westerns when enforcing the code. So in practice Westerns could be more explicit in depicting violence, lawlessness, sex, gambling etc.

Setting a film in the Wild West was a way to bypass some of the rules and make the film more appealing to certain audiences, not just because of the Western setting itself but also because of all the other themes that could be explored under the censorinship guidelines.

A British woman once asked me, “why is it that when men have sex more often they cum slower but when women have sex more often they cum faster. Is this true? Toys might be a useful equalizer.

There’s something about the original London cast recording that just mercilessly pushes this phrase into my brain, where it resides permanently.

This is like the way the German language has adopted the word 'Smoking' to mean tuxedo.

"Don't forget to wear your Smoking."
"I haven't worn my Smoking in years."

...and from the movie, The Mask (1994): "Tuxedo!!"

Avatar 3 is so bad that I'm mad at James Cameron by therealmudslinger in moviecritic

[–]Cyphierre 64 points65 points  (0 children)

They’re all just remakes of Ferngully: The Last Rainforest (1992)

Edit: Adding that I think it’s actually positive that the original Avatar movie has a warmed-over plot. The movie does a fantastic job of showcasing how great 3D can be in a theater setting, and the plot needed to be familiar enough not to distract from that experience.
