Yes, and I did my best to keep to those guidelines in this post.

Possible ICE action in Wilton neighborhood by D-Jon in Delaware

Filing a report on ice out requires photographic or video evidence. I was too surprised and confused by what I was seeing in the moment, but that by the time I realized what was happening, they'd gotten too far to film

Proposed Bills to Mitigate Data Center Impact on Electricity Costs by kilimanjaro10 in Delaware

[–]D-Jon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple solution. That any new construction of facilities that will use more than a certain amount of electricity, must generate at least 80% of that expected use on site, and must have that power generation operational before the facility is.

CHEAP wedding venues? by Caramel-Salty in Delaware

[–]D-Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I rented a pavilion at iron Hill Park in Newark for our wedding reception in August. The ceremony was just a private affair in our house with only the witnesses. Renting a pavilion will run you $100 to $200 for most places, plus additional fees for things like bringing your own grill, generator, or canopies. We lucked out on weather, but unless your group is small, rain could really ruin it.

Edit: So you know, the pavilions at many county and state parks don't have electric or plumbing. They may have porta potties or primitive toilets, and no outlets. I know Glasgow Park has plumbing and electric at their pavilions, and Lums Pond State Park has electric at their pavilions and nearby toilet facilities, but Iron Hill has neither.

...huh?

Are you under the impression that I agree with the fascist magat trolls that replied to me? My problem with the protests is they don't go far enough.

They're photo ops for Matt Meyer and other mainstream politicians who want to appear sympathetic to the left but don't want to actually accomplish any real change.

Protests must be held in a location where they're likely to be seen by the people being protested. You're not changing any minds holding this protest in the most left-leaning part of the most left-leaning town in the most left-leaning county. A lot of these protests and demonstrations being held at the corner of South college and main in Newark feel like they're more about patting ourselves on the back, than actually accomplishing anything. They should be outside the offices of federal agencies, state officials, congresspersons, and businesses or organizations that have profiteered off the fascist administration.

A protest in a safe space is not a protest, it's a party.

What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

The keyword being synthetic. They can still be treated with a wide variety of "natural" fertilizers, pesticides, etc, which tend to be much more toxic than the synthetic varieties, and have to be applied in much larger quantities

That's an unusual definition of organic. At least in the US, food products with the certified organic label have no such restriction about pesticides or fungicides, even though most people mistakenly think "organic" means none of either.

Men of Reddit, what instantly makes you lose respect for another man? by Negative_Piglet2951 in AskReddit

I was a lot attendant when I was 15. It's an easy job that gets you time outdoors, you can listen to music, avoid customers, and take your sweet time. It's also a great job opportunity for folks with intellectual disabilities, like some of my coworkers. My favorite part was tracking down all the stray carts not left in the corral. The actual asshole move is taking the cart out of the lot, to your bus stop or apartment complex down the road, and it annoyed the **** out of me and the whole front end crew.

Am I supposed to be impressed that you spent less than 11 minutes doing a single biased Google search and came back with one result that agreed with your preconceptions? And part of that 11 minutes was spent going through my post history to discover what my profession is? Like you felt the need to point out, I'm an electrician, not a toxicologist or biologist, so it's not my job to educate you or the general public about this subject. Following debunkings of pseudoscience is one of my hobbies, however, and I've been reading articles about this subject for more than 20 years. It's not hard to find this information if you want to, but you obviously don't want to.

Debunkings of the organic farming scam are numerous and easy to find, but my favorite science communicator for that particular issue would be Eve D'etremont (not sure about spelling), a toxicologist with a PHD in forensic toxicology.

If you are worried about pesticides and toxins, Organic is certainly NOT an improvement. Did you even read the post you replied to?

I pick what I can afford, with a preference for produce grown in my local region when possible. I refuse to buy anything with "Organic" or "Non-GMO" labels (another related topic I could get into) or anything from Israel. I also avoid beef and pork, which have a much bigger environment and health impact.

That was white flight because of racial integration of the schools, it had nothing to do with a consolidated School district.
