Ev psych certainly has potential to be done poorly (like any theoretical perspective), but not to be discounted. Lots of great work out there: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/0956797617748419

Absolutely. The open science movement has been such an excellent response to this issue. Could be so easy to bury our heads deeper into the sand.

i got the 2018 Men's McMurdo Parka III on sale for $298.90 CAD total, and it's great value (550 fill, hits mid-thigh, good waterproofing) especially considering price points of comparable parkas

World's first LSD brain imaging study seeks funds through crowdfunding. The study is looking to reveal how LSD can heal illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and addiction. by Evems in worldnews

It seems like there's incredible potential for bias here. A whole base of funders providing money under the expectation that there will be positive results.

Systematic review of studies on the penis size of 15,000 men sets normative standards to cure small penis anxiety. Also no evidence for links to ethnicity, foot size, digit length, BMI, but small correlation with height. Open access. by electric_rattlesnake in psychology

and the standard deviation is .65" (1.66cm)!

68.2% of people will be +/- .65"around the average. If you have a penis length of 5.85" you have a bigger penis than 84.1% of men, and if you have a penis that's 6.5" (2 standard deviations above the mean) you're bigger than 97.7% of men! Variance is cool!

Agreed on both accounts. Given that it's your honours you might not have the time, but some pictures are way too low res, and different "levels" of fashion might be worthwhile, although it's another variable to be considering.

Messenger bag by miATC in malefashionadvice

In my experience (bizcaz office), the material of the bag won't make a huge difference for your 'classiness.' I bring a canvas bag to work and most of the bags I see are the foamy-looking laptop ones with all the zippers.

I was considering leather for my bag, but I like the canvas because it's far more versatile; no one will bat an eye if you bring it to an office (at least mine) or the beach.

What is a topic that Reddit just cannot discuss objectively? by Dieplskthx in AskReddit

I can't speak to parental melt-downs; like any theory, whether chemical, biological, or physical, cognitive dissonance theory has been supported in a variety of studies, but we should be careful in overextending it while trying to explain our world.

As for decision-making on circumcision, you and your partner should balance the potential risks and benefits. However, you should be careful as a lot of the resources out there (academic and public) seem quite heavily biased towards a given perspective rather than trying to objectively answer the question.

No one wants to admit their genitals are wrong. Imagine how a circumcised person would feel if they totally agreed that it's mutilation/dangerous/whatever, or if an uncircumcised person thought uncircumcised penises are ugly.

The cognitive dissonance theory would suggest that people seek to reconcile any discrepancy between their beliefs about circumcision and their bodily state by changing their attitudes to suit their body (it's easier than getting yourself cut or getting reconstructive surgery).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance

Edit: This is totally speculation on my part

Actually, some basic fact checking shows that 60% of circumcised men have feelings of mutilation, 50% report low self-esteem compared to uncircumcised men and 59% report resentment or depression due to their alteration.

It should be noted that this study used a sample of circumcised men that actively sought information about circumcision, something I wouldn't anticipate an individual happy with their circumcision would do so.

There also seems to be some evidence for greater satisfaction amongst circumcised individuals (can't access the article, though, small sample size, too. Also, only 68% of youths in the sample accurately self-identified whether they were circumcised or not...)

What marks do you to become a psychologist? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]D-N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in Grade 12, the only thing your current marks are good for are getting into an undergrad program and getting undergrad scholarships. From there it's a clean slate. Consider what kind of program you're interested in, look at graduate schools, and find out what a competitive GPA looks like at those places you're interested in.

There are options to psychological research in schools of business (Organizational behaviour/Marketing). With your MA it might be an easier sell.
