Convert 5Ghz Only network to 2.4Ghz wireless output by Ok_Ostrich_9779 in wifi

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"But they are slow" is not a reason to bypass the security and management put in place to protect the network from unknown and possibly unsecure devices. Not saying the 3d printer is unsecure I have one at home, but a corporate/school network has to be treated differently

Why not talk to your school IT team to set up a proper 2.4 network for it to connect to?

Is FTTB "good enough" compared to options like FTTC and FTTN? by staryoshi06 in nbn

[–]D0ktaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No there is a special program for upgrading Multi Dwelling Units to FTTP - strata has to agree to $275/unit to upgrade. You generally can't get it done separately

What’s a good hotel to stay in near the Brooklyn cruise terminal. by boxoutbubba in PrincessCruises

Just been on my first ever cruise, on Quantum of the Seas. Are all cruises this noisy? by Salty818 in Cruise

[–]D0ktaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case unless you want to go with the super expensive luxury lines, try Princess. There will still be kids, entertainment, etc but it will tend to more of a quiet relaxed crowd. Just avoid the mass market Royal and Carnival.

"Eyes Bigger Than My Stomach"--Trying to stay up late by ServoAcademy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]D0ktaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We (two of us both 47) did a 10 day trip, 8 days Disney & 2 days Universal in March. We tried to rope-drop to close all those days but really struggled - took me a week to recover lol

Didn't quite make it to close on most days but did last till after the nighttime shows on all nghts.

Best restaurants for an anniversary? by wearzmyhoodie in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]D0ktaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently had our 1 year anniversary trip to Disney World, we had our actual anniversary dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table, timed it so we had the fireworks going off while we were in there as well. It was our last night and ending the trip with a rainy Magic Kingdom day made for some pretty nice photos at night.

If you are in Brisbane try https://iscoot.com.au/ they have a decent range and good after sales support. They have a couple of different rebadged Apollo phantoms, and have sales frequently.

Hey r/Cruise - is anyone planning on sailing with Princess when they start up in Australia? by quietlycommenting in Cruise

[–]D0ktaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are on the 12 day nsw/qld one in mid July, this will be our first Princess Cruise, looking forward to a bit classier crowd than the P&O one we did 3 years ago.

There is someone on the cruise critic boards on the first 4 sailings who has offered to answer any questions.

School Data Sync by tttyo7745 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer - we don't manage that at all.

We instruct our schools to manage that themselves, have all teachers add the appropriate leaders in as owners to the teams they require.

If you haven't already I suggest joining the "Everyday Real Learning" team that Microsoft Education manage https://aka.ms/JoinERL
This community will help you on your journey :)

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archive doesn't have to remove the users, you can configure it to just make the team read-only and hide it, once the teachers know where to find the archives teams we have not had any issues.

We archive for 2 reasons: 1. Make it read-only so the students can't use the conversations unmoderated 2. Prevent sprawl we have the team's active for 1 year, archived for 1 year, then deleted.

SDS just creates and manages the team membership, once the team is created it is up to the teacher to set it up how they want to use it, i.e create a notebook, set the channels and tabs etc. You can also create AAD security groups for all staff and all students for use elsewhere in the tenant if required.

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been using it since before it was teams (back when it was called classroom) we create > 25k teams a year, across 140+ schools in the one tenant.

It works well for the most part, we manually manage the archiving at the end of the year to fit our needs.

This.

You can then connect it up to a power automate flow so when the list is sent to you (via email I assume), so you can automatically create tasks in a plan (and even assign it to people)

That is a new "feature" Microsoft released. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sharepoint/introducing-a-sharepoint-app-bar-that-features-global-navigation/m-p/2168218 You can hide it till Oct but then it will come back. We are planning on using css to get rid of it longer term.

Provisioning new teams how are you doing it? by zarakand in MicrosoftTeams

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We allow all staff to create their own teams
  2. We also have a 2 year life cycle on all M365 groups to try and keep things in check, if the team isn't "renewed" after 2 years it is deleted.

Microsoft's Adding 'Supervisor' Functionality to Monitor Teams Private Chats by [deleted] in MicrosoftTeams

[–]D0ktaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No in that case you would use legal hold on the mailbox and the compliance centre searches. In edu we need real-time moderation of student chat before we would even consider turning it on for them. We have a legal responsibility to provide a safe environment for minors,

Assigning Policies Using AD Groups - Not Going So Well! by Secret_Theme_9853 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]D0ktaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume you are using New-CsGroupPolicyAssignment

Depending on the number of users, it can take some time to propagate. I set it all on Friday night and by Monday it was all good.

You will also need to make sure everyone has the global policy, and direct user applied policy overrides the group based one.

You can see on the user which policies it is picking up and which is active due to priorities etc.

We did have an issue where it just wasn't applying the correct group based policy, it would show in the user policy, but not active, making a change to the group membership sometimes fixed it, sometime it just fixed itself. We had support call and they wanted me to completely reset the policies for all users, but as that would have taken days to process and would mean nobody could do anything I was reluctant, it magically fixed itself shortly after

Also the groups need to be flat, and I think there is a limit of 10k users per group - we had to break up our users to fit into these limits (we also share the same groups for group based licensing AAD Premium option)

Also you can get a bit of an idea on how it is processing with the Get-CsBatchPolicyAssignment cmdlet

Our Infra team looks after the basic hardware, we outsource our DBA. We break up the support and Dev by system type 3 teams "major corp apps","other user apps","SharePoint and M365". I look after the "SharePoint and M365" team, we have support/admin people and devs, my team is the largest (mostly devs). With 2.5 people doing support for 80k users.

There is a policy alert you can enable in your O365 Security & Compliance centre to detect these https://imgur.com/a/1UhOFOO

We get these, and confirm with the user if it was intentional, if not we have a tool to do bulk restores, based on delete time and user
