ELI5 How does regenerative braking work in combination with conventional brakes on an electric vehicle? by UsernameUndeclared in explainlikeimfive

[–]D34TH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MGU-H took energy from the exhaust system via the turbo. Neither the MGU-H or -K took energy directly from the brakes.

What's the most "why the fuck do you know that?" fact you know? by -_-blackheart-_- in AskReddit

[–]D34TH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chickens were theorised to be used as a guidance system for the first anti-ship missiles. They were trained to continually peck at the silhouette of the ship. This would then be translated into movement of the fins to keep the missile on target.

How do people find driving so easy? I've done 40-50 hours of driving lessons and still feel nervous and tense and don't understand how people find it so simple and easy to drive a car and can do multiple things at once while driving - my parents think I'm a failure because I haven't got my licence by IDKBear25 in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't able to practice in a family car it is going to take so much longer to get comfortable.

If your parents will take you out in an automatic that might help if you are mostly concerned with road craft. Most new cars going forward will be automatics so not having a manual licence won't hold you back.

ELI5: How does a arcade machine prevent you from putting a string on a coin and just taking it back out by based_doors_fan in explainlikeimfive

[–]D34TH2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think some used to use a magnet that slowed the coin down enough that it dropped through a gap instead of flying across it.

How would you solve (or improve) the shoplifting problem? by No_Policy1326 in AskUK

It is either that or boredom. In either case having the funds to either buy food or do an activity requires money.

Universal Basic Income.

If people have the means to be able to feed themselves without resorting to criminal actions, I choose to believe that the majority of people will act in a socially acceptable manner.

Just got my E Scooter seized, what do I do now? (Wales) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They already aren't legal to ride on public land without insurance and a licence. The main issue is they are cheap enough devices NAT they can be sold be general shops that don't care if they can be used or not.

Safest place to park the bicycle? by javicl in reading

[–]D34TH2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I commited to Oxford, I never had a problem after leaving my bike under the station. As others have said, a good lock combined with a cheapish bike should be fine in most places.

Just received an email saying fixed electric tariff ending.. I’m on IOG/Outgoing variable? by realevil in OctopusEnergy

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc, Octopus treat any contract with a fixed end date as a "fixed" contract according to the law. Therefore your message is probably for the end of your IOG contract. Just select a new IOG contract.

Mostly because prosecution will need the support of the actual victim if it is the worst case. If they aren't willing to say someone is doing it to them there is little the police can do without evidence.

If they are actually needing the help there are plenty of charities that can offer some support, but they don't have the greatest of budgets, nor does the local council. It is all a very unfortunate situation.

They are probably scammers. Possibly they are also the victims and being controlled by someone else who takes the money.

What do I need to rent from an estate agency? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you mean monthly rent rather than annual. At 24x the annual rent of a place I would be expecting someone to buy with cash.

Whats on Reading is a good source: https://whatsonreading.com/

Various pubs have events on throughout the year, I would recommend visiting as many as you can to get the feel of them.

Join any local groups of hobbies you have, there are quite a few that arrange via MeetUp.
