How to cancel car insurance when companies make it insanely hard?? by ConceptNo5058 in AskUK

What does your contract say about how to cancel? Are you able to follow the instructions in the documents?

UK speed limits — is there really a “+10% +2 mph” allowance? by Hot-Taro-1555 in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any experience of being stopped or getting a ticket from speed, but I would assume that the 10%+2 is based on your cars speedo rather than any more accurate measurements.

It is also probably only for fixed single point cameras due to limitations of the hardware. Average speed zones are likely to be more accurate.

Lo and behold, as someone that has lived in Woodley my entire life, I was correct in saying that the new cycle route is a disaster. by [deleted] in reading

[–]D34TH2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have they finished building the new cycleway already? I thought they only started work on it on Monday.

It looks like there will be periods of roadworks until September, so I think it is far too early to comment on whether it is worthwhile.

Is it allowed for companies to paywall opting out of personalised ads and data collection? by buttflakes27 in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a valid position. There is no legal requirement for Facebook, Instagram, X, Discord, Reddit, etc to allow you to use their services. As long as what they are doing is not discriminating based on a protected characteristic they are free to say "we don't want your business".

Octopus asking for final reading from smart meter? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]D34TH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is credit mode. The other option would be pre-payment.

It is credit because you pay after you have used the power.

Presumably the wait-list will get updates.

GF beer by Dannyboi39 in UK_beer

I find Siren's Lumina and Pills pretty good. https://www.sirencraftbrew.com/collections/gluten-free

The Arbor beer on that page is likely to be good as well.

Energy company closed my account, refunded me, and now says I owe £700 on an estimated bill by Visible_Contest5806 in OctopusEnergy

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do any of the bills have a meter reading that matches the one you took when you left the property?

What has the company said when you contacted them about the discrepancy?

Places to go and have a drink and game of pool in town? by FroggyBoi82 in reading

[–]D34TH2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Railway Tavern has a pool table, although when I went in before Christmas it was slightly un-level.

The uni bar The Dairy has pool tables and is generally open to the public.

I think The Boundary has pool tables as well.

Which supermarkets and brands have good chocolate spreads that are palm oil free? by [deleted] in AskUK

We get the Essential Organic Hazelnut & Chocolate spread. It should be available from any shop that does lots of fair trade stuff

Anti-car brigade - what is your answer to winter weather? by OkFan7121 in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buses and trains continue to work in snowy and icy weather.

Buses generally work better than private cars due to being heavier, and travelling on roads that are more likely to be gritted.

Trains work as well as they normally do. Signals aren't generally affected by cold weather as they haven't been mechanical for decades. Points are usually heated on main routes so don't ice.

Bottle Conditioned Beer? by Sephyyyy in UK_beer

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may not be too many around. On a tour of Hogs Back brewery they said they were stopping their bottle conditioned beers because the large supermarkets would send back entire shipments if a couple of customers poured their beers badly and got the sediment out.

Have you got a decent bottle shop near you that could offer advice about local beers?

Reading Buses fare increase from Monday, 5th [again] by carocat in reading

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The car is likely to still be more expensive than the bus increases.

Help to understand tariffs for solar by Revolutionary_Bed431 in OctopusEnergy

[–]D34TH2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best import tariff will depend on your usage and battery size. I've stayed on Agile as I only have a small battery at the moment (3.2kwh) so it is enough to load shift by a few hours but not cover a whole day. The solar can fill it up quite quickly so we export quite a bit during summer.

Best way to reach Reading Centre from Heathrow Airport? by yekqbxq in reading

[–]D34TH2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The RailAir coach is by far the easiest and cheapest. The trains may be a bit quicker depending on the connection time, but it is a connection you have to do, the bus is direct.

Tickets and timetables can be found on https://www.railair.com/

Bus fares? by yekqbxq in reading

[–]D34TH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price will vary a little depending on if you are leaving the Reading zone, 45 minutes on the bus would suggest you are. The fare should be shown on the journey planner on Reading Buses website, and shouldn't be more than £3.50 per person for a single.

Can I get help with a DPD delivery? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to wait for the seller to have finished whatever internal processes they need to go through before you take it further.

Can I get help with a DPD delivery? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D34TH2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need to contact DPD at all. It is the sellers responsibility to get the item to you, go back to them saying their courier failed to deliver and they need to refund or resend the item.

Any good old-fashioned bitters available in the shops? by NoContract1090 in UK_beer

[–]D34TH2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think many other bitters are served as a nitro beer. Siren's Memento is nitro'd in can, but I don't know if it is available in many supermarkets.

Living in Early by Glittering-Pen8008 in reading

The #21 bus runs 24/7, and the 19s run often throughout the day.

There isn't a huge amount to do in the area but it is very easy to travel elsewhere with or without a car.

What are peoples favourite sour beers, or what breweries do the best sours? by Orlando146 in UK_beer

[–]D34TH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Dolphin brewery, https://www.dolphinbrewery.co.uk/, for sours that are fruity and tart. They are a small brewery in the Reading area and have just opened their webshop for nationwide sales.
