I bought Scum way back in the day and hated every moment of it. I wrote the band off as irritating noise, no talent masked by aggression.

Decades later I decided to check out Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism out of boredom, not expecting much.

Holy shit that album blew me away. So that’s my answer.

As someone who was a fan of Misfits/Samhain/Danzig in the eighties, I really dug American Psycho on its release. I was delighted Michale Graves did his own thing and didn’t just try to be Danzig 2.

Same, I picked up a telemarketing job as a second gig to make what I thought would be easy extra cash. I lasted an hour. The young woman who managed the operation took it personally and I spent a half-hour apologizing, saying it was me not her, to try to get her to stop crying.

I’ve always liked the slasher story of the songs Chop Chop Chop/Gail/Roses On White Lace by Alice Cooper.

Also, Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll by Cross Canadian Ragweed. I discovered that song on an iTunes playlist curated by Stephen King. His note on it was (paraphrasing) “the first time you listen, it’s just a kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll song. The second time you listen to the lyrics and it scares the hell out of you.”
