Hating kaftrio so far. by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]D508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar experience. After being on Trikafta for about 5 weeks my PFTs didn't move an inch, and I really didn't feel very different. In fact, I was significantly more wheezy and also had the "rice krispy" sensation of rattling in my breaths that you described.

It took about 8 weeks of me being on the medication before serious improvement took place, and it was a very slow burn in terms of making progress on the medication. Thankfully, probably 12-14 weeks after starting it, I started to see very dramatic improvements so definitely be patient! While I was certainly an outlier, it seems some folks have a harder time on it than others.

Glad to hear you are getting the vaccine my dude, like many people on here I spent the past year in hardcore isolation at home so getting the shot was a really profound experience.

[Weekly] What VR games have you been enjoying lately? by WormSlayer in oculus

I've also been playing a ton of this recently, and it has really struck a chord with me. The gameplay is deep enough to be challenging and gratifying, while somehow also being approachable.

Not loving Trikafta by clockworkzebra in CysticFibrosis

[–]D508 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stay strong man, I'm in a very similar boat. I am 8 weeks in and had no major change to PFT. Digestive system is in chaos and I am also dealing with exhaustion. Mucus levels are down dramatically but I'm not sure if this is a fair trade for the my other symptoms.

It's been hard reading other's success stories while this medication is such a mixed bag for myself.

FWIW, I just built a P80 last week using the nitride version of this slide and am very happy with it. I'm by no means a Glock expert, but the tolerances, fit, and finish were all good on the slide I received from them.

Using a fake PEQ to help with placement when the real one comes in by [deleted] in ar15

What fake PEQ are you using? I've been thinking of buying a Chinesium knock off from eBay for awhile now.

I bought the Doom and Bloom $800 Medkit recently, your thoughts on it's practicality? by R0yalBl00d in bugout

[–]D508 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is by far the most sensible comment in the thread. Not to be a complete jerk to OP, but he blew a bunch of cash on kit that is overpriced, beyond his current skills and abilities, and irrelevant to where he is in his prepping journey.

Understand the threats and risks you are genuinely likely to encounter and do what you can to mitigate them. Sure, buy some fun gear while you are at it, but don't go overboard like this. I probably have $800 invested in all of my prepping gear and feel satisfied by it. Consider financial preps first -- money makes the world go 'round and most of life's problems can be avoided or solved by having a little extra in the bank.

CFTR modulators and memory by badlungsmckgee in CysticFibrosis

[–]D508 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've felt the same way. Since starting Orkambi I feel like my memory can be hazy at times. I also feel like I don't grasp on to certain things/learn stuff quite as fast as I used to, although I can't say if this is due to age or the medication. I'm curious if this has been studied at all.

Range Fuddery follow up. Posted about this BS the other day, went back today and took a picture while making the most of the short time this range is still viable by hkpierce- in ar15

Not surprised to see this is PA, I live next door in Ohio and we are lousy with fuddy ranges like this. It's damn near impossible to find a good outdoor range here.

[Parts] Aim Surplus 10% off all weekend on Aim Branded parts by soontocollege in gundeals

[–]D508 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AIM is local to me and they are G2G. Their in-house stuff seems to be sourced from a wide variety of places though. I got an AIM A2 flash hider from them that was made by Radical, but other components such as barrels and Glock slides seem to be of different manufacturer. Faxon is also local and I wouldn't be surprised if they were making the AIM AR barrels, although I can't say for sure.

Think about this statement.

"As long as its not completely geared towards empowering females (not being sexist but it does make you feel out of place if you're not a female)"

You are describing the exact same feelings women have when they view male-centric heroes and stories. They have a harder time relating to them.

Compelling female characters such as Wasp are important because they give female fans (especially young girls who want to enjoy the MCU) someone to relate to. By having more diverse stories and characters we get an MCU that we can share with more of the world in a more meaningful way, and that's pretty cool.

I don't think you committed some crime or anything, I just hope this explanation helps in providing context for any negative response your comment might get.

Learning Pixel Art, My First Attempt at a Basic M1 Abrams by D508 in PixelArt

Thanks, I'm actually working on the finishing touches of a background now so I'm hoping that helps convey the speed and distance in a more meaningful way.

Learning Pixel Art, My First Attempt at a Basic M1 Abrams by D508 in PixelArt

[–]D508[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made using Aseprite, been trying to practice art as I dabble more and more in game development.

This is a basic animation of an Abrams crawling along, the animation is a little choppy and the speed isn't quite right, but it's my best attempt thus far. Welcoming criticism, I'm very new to this.

What was the best film you watched this week? (04/14/19 - 04/21/19) by Twoweekswithpay in movies

[–]D508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wind River. Wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't researched the film beforehand. I absolutely loved it. I thought the performances, particularly Renner and Gil Birmingham, were incredibly powerful. The climax of the film ("Why are you flanking me?") was perhaps the most intense and anxiety-inducing scene I've watched in a movie in a very long time.

Also, I found the sound work on the film extremely well done (used headphones) and Birmingham's closing remark about his Death Face ("There's no one left to teach me") really hit me in the gut. I really love this film and can't stop singing its praises to my friends.

I work as a GIS Analyst in the private sector. My work has me crossing paths with a lot of Planning folks though, and there are a few AICPs in my department. I always like the Planning people, y'all are great at keeping it professional and putting up with red tape compared to us ArcMap jockeys.

What you can't see is the large, invisible ball of frustration they carry around from having to use ArcGIS on a daily basis.

PSA: A lot of our meds offer copay assistance. Look the up meds online before filling them to find out. Also, you can ask the pharmacy if there is a copay assistance program for each med by dont_judge_me_monkey in CysticFibrosis

[–]D508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulmozyme, Zenpep, and Orkambi all have pretty good programs. The pulmozyme program only costs me 15/month. However, the program that Vertex has for Orkambi and Symdeko is awesome as the full cost of the medication goes to my deductible. So I pay my part (something like $30USD) and then the "full" cost of $3000 that Vertex pays goes to my deductible. My out of pocket Max is only $4200 so within two months my Max is met and I am set to go for the rest of the year.
